We Got Us a Grand Jury
Well, a Grand Jury is being convened in Travis County to decide if District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg and/or Governor Rick Perry overstepped the boundaries of abuse of office.
The DA was arrested on a DWI charge the night following the death of a close friend (no excuses) and pretty much acted like a horses’ patoot while under arrest, asking if they knew who she was and had they called the sheriff. She was sloppy drunk and voluntarily spent 22 days in jail for a first time DWI. There are video tapes of the entire thing and some folks think she tried to pull rank that night and that it was abuse of power.
Immediately thereafter, Rick Perry demanded that she resign. Lehmberg is a Democrat (and she prosecuted Tom DeLay, a case still on appeal). If she resigns, Rick Perry got to appoint the new DA. We are pretty danged sure that Perry would appoint a Republican.
The Travis County DA is responsible for prosecuting public corruption in Texas. So, Rick pulled a rabbit out of a hat. He threatened to veto funding for the public corruption unit unless Lehmberg resigned. That’s kind of extortion. She turned down his offer and he vetoed the funding.
Perry’s veto read in part, “I cannot in good conscious support continued state funding when the person charged with the ultimate responsibility of that unit has lost the public’s confidence.”
However, the Travis County commissioners court had not lost confidence so they dug around and found the money to partially fund the unit. I can assure you that Lehmberg would be re-elected in a heartbeat in Travis County.
So, a special prosecutor was obtained to see if either of them abused their power.

I can’t imagine Perry is ever “in good conscious” or good conscience either, for that matter. But, lo and behold, an investigation. Good on ya.

6Gov Rick(All Hair, No Integrity) Perry actually used the word conscious. That’s hard to believe.

11@Rod Tanner–easier to believe Gov. Goodhair used “conscious” when you remember that he probably wasn’t when he used it, else he’d have used “conscience” or “consciousness” (which would be silly but probably as fitting in his case….)
Unless the typo was JJ’s, in which case it’s easier to forgive because it’s hard to find your way around a keyboard when your eyes are crossed, and when I think about Goodhair, mine usually are that or rolling…

15JJ–That’s what I figured, too…I have a friend who knew Goodhair in college, where he was also apparently pretty unconscious…
16I haven’t lost confidence in the DA eitheer, but his Ickiness is another story…..
17Let’s see: Lehmberg was pulling rank and abusing her power, but David Dewhurst was just trying to help an alleged shoplifting family member when he spent at least half of a 12-minute call repeating that he was the lieutenant governor and that he supported law enforcement and that he was highly rated by all law enforcement groups, and that yadda, yadda, yadda? Way to go, Slick Rick.
18Ya know now that it’s been pointed out how stoopid (as usual) pRick Perry was in putting his ignorance in writing with the incorrect usage of “conscious” — David Dewhurst will go and change out another official gummint document like he did the night of the Grand Protest and Filibuster.
19Well, I don’t know the situation, but she spent 22 days in jail for the DWI. How is that not being held accountable?
She sure as hell spent more time in jail than Lindsey Lohan did.
