Wanna Know What’s Worse Than Texas Governor Rick Perry?

Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

That’s a shiver looking for a spine to run up.

Texas Attorney General Abbott hauled his hiney to the Texas State Rifle Association this weekend.  He brought a flag to run up the flagpole to see who saluted.  His flag:  what Texas needs is not better education or health care or jobs that will support a family.  What Texas needs is more guns, dammit!

Attorney General Greg Abbott on Saturday denounced gun-control efforts by President Barack Obama and Democrats in Congress, saying the best way to deal with gun violence is to put more firearms in the hands of citizens.

“More guns equals less crime,” Abbott told the Texas State Rifle Association, which is holding its annual convention and gun show in Mesquite.

So, if you come to Texas we’ll meet you at the border and give you a gun.  With education and healthcare, you’re on your own, good buddy.  Maybe you can shoot you some. Then you can take it to the taxidermist and get it stuffed to hang over your fireplace.  Then when Joe Bob comes to visit you can say, “See that health care up there over the fireplace?  I killed that sucker myself.”

Greg Abbott was Teaparty when there wasn’t a Teaparty.  I took this picture myownself in 2006 at the Fort Bend County Republican Headquarters.

.

Here’s what I think.   Abbott will take on Perry in the GOP primary in 2014.   He smells oops blood in the water.

There are many things to dislike about Greg Abbott and Lord knows I’ll talk about them all before that election, but the #1 reason to dislike him is that he’s further right than Rick Perry.

Be social and share!

  1. Read the really heartbreaking story in the local paper this morning…. about a (4) year old kid….. who shot (and killed) himself ….. with his daddy’s gun.

I wonder how many more of these we will have to read about, or hear about…. before idiots like Gregg Abbott STHU… about more guns.

  2. Unfortunately, Texas breeds stubborn. Mix that with a strong bit of crazy and you have the never-shut-up and in-your-face rhetoric of Abbott, Perry, Cruz, Gohmert…oh Lord, the list just keeps going. These idjets believe a fool’s logic: I am a “real Texan.” I believe…[insert rhetoric]. Therefore all other real Texans believe as I do and we are empowered by God and in majority – don’t give me no lying facts or statistics.

So, Miemaw, it would take a bullet to the brain to actually shut him up. Sigh.

  3. I’m not convinced either man believes in the things he says, but it’s pretty obvious they believe that catering to the Tea Party will get them elected. What really worries me about Greg Abbott is that I think he’s a lot smarter than Rick Perry. Dumb and promoting policies that harm the people of Texas is bad enough, but smart and pushing those policies is frightening.

Oh dear. Sigh. My daughter in law said last night that if she thinks about things too much, it makes her seriously depressed. Young folks have a big burden to bear.

  6. The stats, of course, say that states with the strongest gun safety laws (let’s get rid of the phrase “gun control” since the issue is safety) have the lowest per-capita gun deaths. And many of the deaths they do have are from guns brought in from gun free-for-all states. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a good rant.

  7. I’m beginning to feel like we’re living a very, very bad dream, one that never ends, here in Texas.

This story brings back a statement made by my sister, who was a waitress in a redneck bar. I asked her how bad the place was, because of its reputation.she said, well they check everyone for knives at the door.I asked then what? She answered if they don’t have one,we issue them one!!!!!!!!!!!!!
