Unhappy with the Death Toll, Paxton Heads to Texas Supreme Court

August 14, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Abbott, Coronavirus, Corruption

Hospitalizations and deaths are rising at an alarming rate in Texas, but not fast enough for Abbott and Paxton, who have been losing in lower state courts to school districts and counties desperately trying to protect their citizens and students from Abbott’s death plan.  In true Trumpian fashion, Abbott has been sowing chaos all over the state by banning all safety protocols that only morons and religious nuts oppose.  The chaos has overrun the hospitals, and now threatens to overrun the courts.  Yesterday, Abbott was handed two losses in quick succession, one in Dallas and the other in San Antonio, and concerned that the courts might be daring to protect Texans, Abbott instructed indicted felon Ken Paxton to run to the 100% GOP controlled Supreme Court to stop local governments from doing the right thing.  Said court generally follows the party line, backing business and corrupt politicians rather than protecting Texans, but this one really counts.  This is the test – will the judicial system of Texas once again rule against common sense and the common good, or will they surprise us?  I’m not holding my breath.

  1. Pox on Abbott. We are living in dangerous times. I just saw this comment on the blog at democraticunderground.com.

“My cousin in Texas. Her granddaughter is a nurse in Austin Texas. I don’t know what hospital. They were told yesterday they cannot wear scrubs have ID showing coming into the building, change after getting there, and change out before leaving. If come in or go out at night you must go with security. They were given a number to call if they come in after dark.

Apparently enough workers have been threatened over the shortage of bed space and resources that there is fear something bad will happen.

These people won’t vax. They won’t mask. When they get sick they run for the hospital and when there is not enough staff, beds, and other resources to put them at the front of the line they start threatening the very people they want help from?

    My God …”

  3. cpinva, lately I’ve been thinking what a great country New England would make. Maybe add (eastern?) NY, NJ and (eastern) PA.

Or, maybe Canada would take us on as an eastern province.

When you completely detach yourself it becomes a fascinating series of stories. Our district is completely in Harris county. Do we follow the governor and TEA or do we follow the county? A number of districts have the same choice and each one is different in how they approach the crisis. My child’s district is split between Harris and Galveston counties. That’s an even more interesting dilemma.

The sad thing is that my wife and I have built good careers for ourselves down here. We are very successful and mostly happy. I grew up in this community and it still has a small town feel even though we are within a half hour from downtown. We don’t want to move. We just want common sense back.

Nick @ 4 … “We don’t want to move. We just want common sense back.”

    here’s hoping
    * the Republican death cult thins its own ranks,
    * the verging on sane Republicans and independents begin to recognize the threats of the Republican death cult, and stop supporting it with money and votes. Those few, sane Republicans need to stop backing the crazies, enabling their dangers.
    * the Democrats in Texas begin to craft a consistent and attractive message for their campaigns, and
    * [MOST OF ALL] the apathetic non-voters and youth begin to sense the need to vote against the GOP/TGOP/GQp/ and all supporters.

RE #5: At this junction are there any “sane” Republicans, at least in the traditional Dwight Eisenhower model? “Cult-45” may be a better description of that party currently.

Whatever formula needed to break the gerrymandered, voter suppressed hold on power by the Texas GQP remains elusive. For example, in the 2020 general election four members of the TX Supreme Court were on the ballot. All won. In each race the margin was around one million more votes for the incumbent Republican judge than the Democrat running against them.

What does it take for over one million Texans to go vote Democratic in the next TX Supreme Court races?

  7. This is what happens when you pragmatically alliance with the KKK Dixiecrats. Anti-GOP unionist Labor Dems did that up til JFK/LBJ. Nixon/ Ronnie Raygun gave them a home and now The Neo-Clan owns the GOP. And that ain’t just in Dixie. Most of rural USA seems okay with this.
