Trump Doesn’t Know What Category 5 Means
Trump was Trump today, attending a FEMA briefing on Hurricane Dorian which was upgraded to Category 5 today. The President was confused by the term “Category 5” saying,
“I’m not sure that I’ve ever even heard of a Category Five. I’ve seen some Category Fours, you don’t even see them that much. But a Category Five is something that, I don’t know that I’ve ever even heard the term, other than I know it’s there. That’s the ultimate and that’s what we have, unfortunately.”
So, the “very stable genius”, who knows more than any expert about the Middle East, the military, warfare, technology, trade, real estate, and finance has never heard of a Category 5 hurricane. For context, the US has been hit by THREE Category 4 hurricanes since Trump was inaugurated, Irma and Maria in 2017, and Michael in 2018.
Trump is truly just an ignoramus. He doesn’t read; he has no knowledge of science or history; he couldn’t care less about society and contributing to that society. He is totally self absorbed, consumed and needy of adulation. Everything else is peripheral and irrelevant.
Unbelievable.
I’m not sure that I’ve ever heard of fourth-stage syphilis.
Oh, wait…
1I agree with your entire entry, El Jefe, until I get to the last word. After all these months following the increasingly idiotic and embarrassing actions of a president who resembles an overweight 5th-grade schoolyard bully, it’s all very believable. Unfortunately.
2Just a continuation of ignorance.
Side light
The Galvrston hurrican ( Jacob’s hurrican) was predicted and plotted by Meteoroligist in Cuba, which had -at the time – the longest documented record of Hurricanes in Western hemisphere.
But because they were not “anglo’s” and people of color ( at the time the Spanish were often referred to in same ignorance as africans, so they could not be considered “reliable” and by their “racial” nature were over excitable, hence they were ignored.
In 1938 the Cuban Meteoroligist’s tried to warn their US counterparts of the risk of the hurricane barreling up the East Coat that would result in a wide swathe of death and destruction including the sweeping away of a school bus on a causeway in Rhode Island.
Again they were ignored for the same reason as in 1900.
So the ability, or even willingnss, of the US gov., or even people to learn from history when it conflicts with inherent bigotry and arragent ignorance cannot be underestimated.
PS Wonder if demented donnie canceled his trip to Poland when some one finally got him to understand his full throated support of russian aggression would not play well in Warsaw
3Another mass shooting in Texas.
Texans, please vote these scumbag politicians off the face of the earth. THEY ARE COMPLICIT! They take money from the NRA to put your neighbors, families & children, in the path of gunfire by the monster’s fascists.

* Less than 24 hours after the latest tragedy, as The Hill reported, “a slate of new Texas laws that loosen regulations for firearms went into effect Sunday after a month in which the state experienced multiple mass shootings.”
* “The bills, which were passed during the 86th Texas legislature, ease restrictions surrounding access to guns on school grounds and churches, among other provisions,” according to The Hill.
* The laws follow not only the Odessa shooting but also a massacre in early August, when a gunman who allegedly authored an anti-immigrant manifesto posted online killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas. Citing President Donald Trump’s comments and policies targeting immigrants, some critics called that shooting “Trump-inspired terrorism.”

4He also tried to tell people the hurricane is heading to Alabama. I wish the press didn’t give home such a platform, but then we all need to hear his drivel and remember to vote November 3, 2020. – etch the date on your foreheads!
5@Grandma Ada: So he doesn’t know where Alabama is, either? And he doesn’t know right from left? Dorian appears to be headed along the East Coast–nowhere near Alabama. The President of the United States is a nincompoop, for all the world to see.
6Ignorance or disability. You decide…
7Trump is probably can’t figure out whether he should tell the Joint Chiefs to go to DEFCON 5 or DEFCON 1 as prep for nuking that hurricane when it nears the coast of Alabama.
8And even more disturbing, there have been 4 previous interviews in which the idiot has said he’s never heard of category 5 hurricanes. See: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-hurricane-dorian-category-5-storm_n_5d6c0c6ce4b0cdfe0571ddf8
Isn’t it time that he be restrained? It kills me when commentators solemnly intone that “The President has been informed about the storm’s progress.” It’s like informing a 2-year about the storm’s progress!
9Trump has gotten so bad that even Faux Noose is now coming down on him like a ton of bricks! And when that happens, you know the end is near!
10And after cancelling his international visit for this emergency, he played golf. The Republicans who criticized President Obama for playing too much golf seem to be awfully quiet.
11twocrows and Megasoid and anybody else close to the path of Dorian:
12Hurricane path predictions are tremendously more accurate than they were even 10 years ago. But their uncertainty is still treacherous. The difference between a couple of degrees on the compass with a cat. 4 or 5 can be the difference between a rainstorm and catastrophe. Please consider evacuating.
With recent history of August hurricanes the idea of holding any political conventions in hurricane territory (I.e.miami,Tampa,Atlanta,New Orleans or Houston) should be dead.
13JJ,
14I would suggest the use of “ignoranus” when speaking of Trump’s ridiculous attributes.
JFCoac!
El Jefe, you’ve made a massive omission:
August 2017’s Hurricane Harvey. Tied with Katrina in #1 rank as the most devastating US mainland ‘Cane.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Harvey
15“Ignoranus”; is that a dumbass?
16@Sand – I wasn’t citing most devastating hurricanes/tropical storms. Harvey was certainly that, but not a Cat 5. It was a devastating rain event, but not technically a Cat 5 as the other 3.
17Oops, Harvey didn’t actually reach Cat 5 officially [some unofficial readings had it barely there]. It had Cat 5 effects though.
18Got Dorian in mind, what a monster.
El Jefe @17, sorry, I get too deep in the technical stuff, especially hurricanes. Have so much tech vapor whirling around the cranium it sometimes gets condensed in the wrong place. Besides, still recovering from Harvey, the SOB [reminds me of YKW].
19new Texas laws that loosen regulations for firearms went into effect Sunday
Republicans in power *always* over-reach.
It’s up to us to hold them accountable.
We’ve been doing a bad job of that since 1972.
And if not now, when?
20Sandridge:
21Keep doing what you do, cause nobody else could do it.
What? He didn’t break into his favorite refrain?
22“This is the biggest hurricane ever! The biggest and, I’m sure history will record, the BEST! Obama never had a hurricane this big! I’ll bet he never even had a level 4!”
To K 13:
23Never gonna happen. At least not by the Republicans.
1] They have to repay their southern supporters
2] Admitting that they’re avoiding certain areas due to Climate Change is something they will simply never do.
K – the Gaveston Hurricane of 1900 was chronicled in the Eric Larsen’s book, Isaac’s Storm. And, yes, it was our own bullheadedness that brushed off the excellent predictions from Cuba.
PS, for JJ – the Idiot in Chief also claims to be an environmentalist. Geographer he also ain’t also – I missed the “Alabama” thing. That might have been after i muted the TV. One can only take just so much.

Here’s a Bahamian news source for local Dorian news from the place really getting hammered. They seem kind of radical, but maybe it’s just a cultural thing.
https://twitter.com/Bahamaspress
Parts of the Bahamas have been suffering 100-220mph winds, rain, and huge sea surges for more than 24 hours. I think that the loss of life will be staggering, let alone property damage. Entire towns have been obliterated.
25Don’t know if any of y’all have experienced hurricane force winds, especially for hours, but it ‘gets’ to you. More than a day of it and many people are going to have ‘PTSD’, be basketcases, imo.
I can’t imagine 220mph bursting gusts buffeting almost anything without completely destroying it. Remember the Jarret, TX F5 tornado near Austin, it ‘disappeared’ whole neighborhoods, not just homes and buildings, but even their foundations, it just peeled away whole roads..
Similar forces at work in a much larger area in the Bahamas. Florida better hope Dorian turns and stays offshore without a landfall, because it is much more densely populated.
Dorian is just incredible, unprecedented.
Recordbreaking 5 years with Cat 5 hurricanes now, but there ain’t no such things as anthropogenic climate change/global heating…
PS: Lots of good storm video clips at that Bahamas Press twitter. Stuff not on the news, afaik.. But that’s just a snippet from those who have the means to video and post it. Bahamas is a poor country, so many others are getting wiped out in isolation.

26Maybe its real name is Damien. :-z
27Twocrows@ 23
Good I hope they continue to be forced into abbreviated conventions like the one they had in Tampa that was shortened because of a hurricane. Nothing like pictures and reports of natural disasters being attached to the thuglican brand
Linda Phipps@ 24
28Thank you I knew that but had mental short circuit and mixed up Jacob with Isaac.
Very much of same stubbornness during the 1938 east coast hurricane when US weather would again ignore the predictions of “others” from Cuba with the result of more death and destruction for failure to prepare.
Learning from others is not an US strength as our health system and gun laws refuse to accept the proven lessons of other countries and subsequently continue to promote the slaughter of innocents and impoverishment by health care.
After all can’t let the deaths of children and suffering of families get in the way of squeezing out a few extra bucks of profit
According to the Gospel of Jimmy Buffett, we’re all just Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season.
