Trump Admirers
So, a West Virginia nurse was dispatched to Texas and New York during the pandemic, spoke at the Republican National Convention. I mean, that’s kinda a big deal to get to speak at a national convention.
“As a healthcare professional, I can tell you without hesitation, Donald Trump’s quick action and leadership saved thousands of lives during COVID-19,” said Amy Ford, a registered nurse.
And then she went out and shot somebody.
Amy Ford is also known as Amy Thorn.
Police said Thorn shot Jonda Whitt in the abdomen during an argument, WCHS reported.
Williamson Police Chief Grady Dotson said Thorn claimed she had become fearful for her safety and had told Whitt she had a gun. “She went to the car and got the gun out of the car,” Dotson said, local news outlet the Mingo Messenger reported.
Okay, here’s where I am confused. If it was self defense, why did you have to go to your car to get a gun? Why didn’t you go to your car to get … the hell out Dodge.
She shot the woman in the gut. I do not know where she was aiming. She was charged with malicious wounding. I don’t know what that is. We don’t have that in Texas. However, I suspect it’s a felony so she’ll feel right at home with the Trump administration.
All the best people with this lady signing on the bi-polar or schizoid side of the Donnie fans. If she did indeed travel to both NY and TX to provide medical service, that is to be appreciated and thanked. But alternately she chose to shoot a woman instead of driving away is quite the reversal from service to attempted murder. Odd.
1Good call Grady. shouldn’t you be doing your job as caretaker of the OverLook Hotel.
2Speaking at the rnc CONvention was such an honor to be included with almost every repugnantican nut case you can name. I was going to list them but it’s too long. Some notables Charlie Kirk, the gun toting McCloskeys, and gun nuts dumb, dumber and significant others.
3She fit right in and now shows why.
The only reason to drive away is if she found she was out of ammo, and had to go to WalMart to buy some bullets. Then to drive back and defend herself from what was obviously an imminent threat to her life.
After all, those Special Ops Angels from Heaven can’t protect her. They’re too busy guarding Trump’s re-election:

4Amy Ford &/or Amy Thorn certainly knows how to send out mixed messages. Is there a way you can tell the difference between Good Amy and Bad Amy? Because you wouldn’t want to get into an argument with her if you’re her patient in the hospital.

Went to the Mingo Messenger (Kentucky) and found this great video about the Vice President’s pet fly.
6Amy Whats-her-face is a registered nurse??? “I’m just going to give you a little shot….this may sting a bit.”
7Williamson WV is right on the KY-WV state line. It is in the heart of Hatfield-McCoy country. Lot of empty storefronts. Trump territory.
8Seems to be a growing thing– ‘shoot first, maybe think later’.
I don’t watch a lot of local news, but there seem to be much increasing numbers of shootings of all types in the San Antonio area: — 1-1, multiple shooter shootouts, OK Corral stuff [50-100+ rounds fired], driveby random house shootings, etc. [and frequent stabbings too]. Holy effing chit!
The latest reported this morning: yesterday evening some ‘typical sports fans’ got to arguing about the Dallas Cowboys game. One pulls out a pistol, shoots the other twice, target manages to get ahold of the weapon and shoots the first shooter [pretty impressive comeback imo] . Both now in critical condition at hospital. Just another day in paradise.
“the gun toting McCloskeys” have been charged, arrested ?, probably out on bail.
I guess I’m finally coming around to some kind of ‘gun control’, or ‘gun owner control’. I’ve owned weaponry since about 7-8 years old, carried/carry one much of the time. Have never used it ‘irresponsibly’ as in today’s epidemic of violence .
9Nurse? Really? Anyone check her bona fides? She’s schizophrenic to say the least, but if she had actually been nursing 24/7 somewhere due to COVID-19, that may account for her mental status. At least two MD’s have offed themselves due to the strain of working like a herd of horses only to see so many die. Psych eval to say the least.
10Sandridge: For my sins, I lived in Ft. Worthless for many years. Once, I had a second-floor apartment overlooking a small honky-tonk bar near downtown. One midnight two drunks spill out of the bar yelling at each other. Each staggers to his own pick-up truck, retrieves a revolver and fumbles around before they start blasting away at each other (range: about 50 feet). After emptying the guns they shouted at each a while longer, then went back into the bar. Probably to re-arm themselves with alcohol.
So I’ve believed in requiring some licensing and training for decades now. With a test that actually fails some people. E.g. folks like the St. Louis couple who brandished guns with fingers on triggers, occasionally pointing them at each other.
[Of course the FW police never showed up. I did not have a phone, and I’m sure the bar owner did not want to have to increase his informal “licensing fee” to the cops by calling them.]
11Sandridge, there might be more gunplay in San Antonio but I bet it’s down in Houston. When my nephew, who is now about 40, was 8 or 9 years old he could identify at least half a dozen submachine guns by their sound. They lived on a side street that was used by smugglers of drugs and migrants and they frequently had to lie on the floor when shootouts started.

“shoot first, shoot later, shoot some more and then when everybody’s dead try to ask a question or two.”

13One 11-7 shift in my little home town, my rookie and I turned around on a suspected DWI. We both noticed several small flashes from inside the car as they ran. A mile or five down the state highway they pulled over. We laid them over the hood of their car and handcuffed them. Our backup came along and I left that officer and my rookie inventorying the car while I transported the two to jail. A jailer interrupted book-in saying my rookie was on hollering for me on the radio. When I got back to the car, my rookie showed me 6 smashed .25 caliber rounds he found on the package shelf. The passenger had, during the short chase, fired at us with a trashy revolver. The rounds had hit the rear window, followed the curve of the back glass, and came harmlessly to rest on the package shelf. In the mythology of that department, that event is immortalized as “The Night We Were In A Running Gunfight and Didn’t Know It”.
Charles Phillips is spot on about that particular part of West Virginia. I lived in the state for a number of years, and my kids even were extras in the John Sayles movie “Matewan.” Learning about the Hatfields/McCoy conflict and the coal mining wars is part of the curriculum.
14As soon as I heard the story, I immediately clicked to see just where this happened. Didn’t surprise me in the least it was Williamson, Mingo County. While not formally part of the “sovereign state
The Surly Professor @11, they never ‘think’ about downrange damage; and evolution is a pretty inefficient process I guess, should have eliminated each other.
Harry Eagar @12, I know it, used to periodically work there for months at a time all around Houston region, often in some of the ‘choice’ areas. Heard and saw enough chit, you can bet I was heavily armed.
Micr @13, unfortunately they often hit bystanders; doesn’t say much good about the lowly .25cal ballistics, yikes. But y’all lucked out. Was it is revolver or a semi-auto ‘Saturday Night Special’? Although both have very short barrels.
15Charles Phillips,
The former mayor of Williamson WV is a friend. 20 years ago this was a Democratic town with a wonderful Democratic mayor (and town pharmacist).
Assuming she represents the current town of Williamson, it’s sad to see a community fall for FoxNews and Trump’s propaganda. It’s a beautiful part of America that knows how to market the Hatfield-McCoy feud for a little tourist income.
