True the Vote: My Hometown’s Snake Oil Salesman
If you’ve been around here for more than a week, you know my feelings about my neighbor Cathy Engelbrecht and her True the Vote / King Street Patriots.

A crock o’ crap.
Faced with triple play voter fraud by one of her own Republican candidates, Engelbrecht had the gall to ask for proof, even though the paper trail was laid out before her.
Non-partisan, my sweet patootie.
She claims that she will have a million poll watchers across the country this election, but you could not tell that in her own hometown. The last training she held at a local church two weeks ago attracted 8 people, all of them over the age of 75. One man fell asleep during the training and two of them were using walkers. Hell, half of them couldn’t see lightning or hear thunder so I don’t see them as holding back the gates of what our county has seen of voter fraud — with all three cases of it now being committed by local Republicans.
Engelbrecht did find time to tell these people that Barack Obama is going to take away their social security. Wooooo — scary black man.
Engelbrecht claims to be non-partisan and that she only got interested in politics after Barack Obama got elected.
As she told the New York Times recently, “I saw our country headed in a direction that, for whatever reason – it didn’t hit me until 2008 – this really threatens the future of our children.”
Yeah, audience, I saw a scary black man.
I don’t know her goal in lying, but she did in fact vote in Republicans primaries in 2000, 2002, and then skipped a few. She was raised in politics with her dad being a long time city councilman in Rosenberg.
She’s a snake oil salesman.
Honey, I could claim there’s rabid alligators in Kansas and garner some folks to go with me to rid Kansas of the Great Gator Menace, but that don’t mean there’s actually alligators in Kansas.
And the Houston Chronicle is catching on.
“She said that in the past several weeks her organization had investigated and turned over evidence of 99 cases of voters casting ballots from two states in a single election.” Where is Joe McCarthy when you need him? Oh yeah, sex change and living in Fort Bend….
1Yea last time I saw some of those “Poll watchers” it was in Hillsboro and they must have been going to the batting cages afterwards cause they all had baseball bats with them…

7Noticed several OWGs going in to early vote today. Each brandished his voter registration card and a driver’s license so all in line could observe their “patriotism”. Not sure if they realize how stupid they looked but I was smiling.
8She became concerned in 2008? Hmmmmm….. President Obama had not had time to take the country in ANY direction at that point. However, he WAS black then.
9I wonder if she’ll have poll watchers up here in Rockbridge County VA?
10My very real concern is this:
We, this country, has been…… for the most part……. if not in “racial harmony” in at least ……… “racial tolerance.” for a good many years. I don’t remember if the last riots we had were in Los Angeles….. or where ever.
But……here’s the thing……. you cannot continue to push people……… any people….. until they finally get to the point …….. that they are going to push back.
These people cannot continue to try to bring back “Jim Crow” …….. whether he/she wears a white sheet, or whether he/she…… wears a pin striped suit, and carries a briefcase….
Rightfully, people who are being pushed into a corner, will eventually push back……. and it’s going to be a mess. …. And it will take years, and years to recover…….. And…..most of all…… it’s so unnecessary.

11Up until 4 years ago I had lived within a mile of my parent’s house all my life, and voted in the same firehouse for most of that time. And, after I had sold my soul to the GOP to advance my own political career, I became a GOP poll watcher in that same firehouse, working alongside the same geriatric set that had been oversseing the voting since I had been 18.
Luckily for me, I was accepted by them immediately due to two very salient points: 1) they had known me my whole life and 2) the year I started was the year they did away with punch cards and went to Optiscan, which included a bunch of new technology dumped on the same set that never learned to program their VCRs.
They were grateful to have a local boy with an MS in computer science there to read the manuals, and push the buttons.
Anyway, what I learned after several years sitting next to these folks is that 95% of the problems with elections come from the everyday, ordinary people who selflessly volunteer their time for a process that has become UNGODLY complicated as time has passed.
Every last hour of every election day is fraught with “irregularities” – but they were ALWAYS resolved amicably, by people with the best of intentions.
The true threat to the Republic is not voters trying to commit fraud. No, the TRUE threat is the hijacking of the voter rolls by an organized cadre of people with an agenda to manifestly affect the OUTCOME of an election, not just the process.
