  1. Lyndon Johnson used to call this “the treatment.”

  2. Sam in St Paul says:

“Susan, I’ll take the left one and you get the right.”

    2
  3. “You know they’re lying. Do you want to be the *one* singled out as dooming women to back alley surgeries?”

    3
  4. I know Lisa. She’s my senator. Who’s the woman on the left?

    4
  5. I believe it’s Dianne Feinstein

    5
  6. It’s probably wishful thinking, but I’d love to see Sen. Flake vote against Kavanaugh in the committee. That would end this mess a lot sooner. He’s leaving office in a few weeks and knows that Kavanaugh’s views on presidential power are arguably worse than his views on women’s rights. Too dangerous to be a Justice. Mitch could bring it to the floor anyway, but if Flake votes no in committee, it gives Collins and Murkowski a lot of cover to vote no with him.

  7. Gift ‘er, Diane!

  8. Linda Phipps says:

I admit I am not well versed in this kind of thing, so please feel free to edumacate me: I think a few senators are afraid to vote “no” because they are terrified of their evangelist base, but if they simply did not vote wouldn’t that have the same effect?

    8
  9. Steven Zeffert says:

No, if they abstain, they still count in the denominator, so 49 no votes won’t stop him.

    9
  10. Go, Diane. Lisa Murkowski had reservations about Kavanaugh before the sex assault accusations, so it’s time to step up. I wish Diane would give Susan Collins “the treatment”, as she has expressed grave concerns behind closed doors, but will not voice them publicly. These two senators showed immense courage during the Health Care vote, so we should expect no less now.
As for red state Dems, Claire McCaskill has already come out with a “No” on Kav, but Manchin, Heitkamp and Donnelly are
silent. We need to bombard them with emails.

    10
  11. Maryelle, I agree I don’t have any idea how Collins will vote, she seems afraid to take a stand. Remember there is more to not wanting Kavanaugh than his treatment of women. I mean lies, “I spent most of my time in school studying and playing football” well he seems to have gone to his share of parties and why did he keep getting grounded? He believes in absolute Executive powers. In this present climate we do not want that. WE will unfortunately leave this important decision to the republicans,

    11
  12. Linda Phipps says:

Steven Zeffert, thank you. But i will give this one last try: if all the senators are present, and two or three voted “present” would that have any impact. Also, all the speculation depends on a total consensus of Democrats. There are a few in there who could confirm, Heitkamp being one of them.

  13. I’m a long way from a DiFi fan, but following Grassley’s opener, Sen. Feinstein’s opening statement totally dominated and nuked his into next month. DiFi kicked his sorry ass.
DiFi was rational, logical, on point and comprehensive, Grassley was mostly in lame attack mode, disrespectful, and rambled and stumbled all over the place; he actually seemed to show the signs of the onset of senility to me.

  14. Llana Nixon says:

A significant reason that Lisa Murkowski was re-elected as a write-in candidate the last time was due to her support from the Alaskan Native community. In fact, she was singularly honored by one of the tribes and knows that she is beholden to them as their senator. The Natives are bombarding her with emails and phone calls to vote against Kavanaugh because of their great distrust and fear that he will rule against their Alaskan issues and needs, not the least in part due to his stated opposition to Hawaiian native people’s needs.

Here’s a little background on Murkowski and the Alaska Natives, if interested. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/lisa-murkowski-brett-kavanaugh-native-alaska_us_5b92bed6e4b0511db3e20921

My favorite Twitter comment about this picture was something like, “Diane Feinstein looks like she’s ready to throw down if someone will hold her pearls.”

    15
  16. OMG Kavanaugh is screaming……..YIKES

    16
  17. Now Kav starts mentioning his daughters and breaks down.
This sonofabitch was the prime mover in Ken Starr’s relentless investigation of President Clinton’s sexual peccadilloes, real or imagined.
He was the one responsible for the most salacious stuff being on the airwaves nearly 24/7. Kharma’s a bitch, Kav.
My own youngest daughters were about the age of his own at that time. I had to flip the channel or try and answer their questions about that slime back then, thanks to his rabid RW ideology trying to take down a Democrat for his masters.

    17
  18. Annabelle Lee –

LOL! It sounds like the White Upper Middle Class equivalent of takin’ off the earrings, so they won’t get torn out of the lobes.

    It’s On, Bitchezz!

  19. While all this was going on in Washington, I was told that I am Professor Emeritus because it is too much trouble to have both Professor Emeritus and Professor Emerita. I’m trying to figure out what to put in an email to the University President that he’ll read and might be clear enough for a white male to understand how disrespectful and demeaning this is, not to mention how much it is more of the harassment I’ve endured as a women in STEM since 1966 when my undergraduate advisor always called me Mr. (correct last name). And the beat goes on.
