To Vote By Mail or Not To Vote By Mail. That is The Question.

December 02, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

So after Trump told Republicans not to vote by mail, he lost Georgia. Roughly 24,000 Republicans who voted by mail in the state’s June primary didn’t cast ballots in the general election, probably because Trump told them not to vote by mail and undermined their trust in the entire voting system.

Biden got 300,000 more votes in mail-in ballots than Trump, and that’s been intensely verified three times. Those votes offset Trump’s election day victory.

So now, Republicans in Georgia are encouraging their people to vote by mail after Trump built a cottage industry off destroying any faith at all in voting by mail or trusting people who ask you to vote by mail. Yep, as we country folks say, he was hoisted by his own petard.  And Honey, it’s been a blessing to see.

It’s likely that early January could be icy in Georgia.  It’s also likely that Trump voters are going to listen to Trump, not Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger or Georgia Governor Brian Kemp – two men Trump has vilified repeatedly.  So we could see another petard hoisted.

This might be fun.

Thanks to Henry for the heads up.

  1. January is a LONG way off. Drumpf could try and reverse a couple dozen tactics before then, but I hold great hope that the voters in Georgia will vote BLUE. They need folks in charge who are on THEIR side.

“hoisted by his own petard” — That’s a new one to me. I had to google it. For anyone else caught unaware, here’s what Wikipedia says: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoist_with_his_own_petard

  2. Fewer Republican mail-in ballots, and yesterday I read the Trump voter fraud Super PAC has so far received $165 million dollars. Which I estimate is approximately $165 million dollars that won’t be spent on either of the Republican Georgia special election candidates for Senate.

Rick oh sure, when you owe normal banks $1 billion, the payments are probably $10-20 million a year. But when you owe it to Russian Oligarchs, who are no longer accepting in-kind payments of wrecking America’s standing in the world in lieu of cash, it probably is higher.

I guess it will have to be Postmaster DeJoy to the rescue.

  5. Morning J.J.
I’ve been thinking the same thing for awhile now.
Although I have to admit that with the folks I used to work and run with, we generally used a slightly different metaphor than the ole petard hoist for this kinda situation.
It referenced an attempted solo biological function which should be physically impossible. (No matter how fast one spins with the front part, the back part always seems to be spinning elusively just as fast.) So when you see somebody actually achieve it, it’s repugnantly astonishing.
    But funny.

  6. Yeah, I’m sure mail in ballots are going to be prioritized during the holiday season. Not. Also, what’s being said around here is that the election has already been decided and that agent orange has told republicans they shouldn’t even bother with voting. With everything else that’s going on right now, I’m glad my county has a sheriff’s deputy stationed at every voting location.

When Trump tested positive for the virus, the most googled word was schaudenfreude. I have to think it will come up again here if these trends hold.

  8. Georgia St. Board of Elections just sent out a bulletin to all counties saying they can refuse to register a new voter unless they own a car. Received a message from Greg Palast about it.
A new way of voter supression. I assume if you have a car, but it is via lease or payments, they holder of that can vote in your place.
Gotta get Georgia off my Mind.

Nick, even though DUHtrumpf could neither pronounce or spell, or even know what “schaudenfreude” means, it’s how he lives everyday.
So now he’s going to Georgia Saturday to rant, rave and rage. Wonder what he’ll say about voting at his rally. Will he repeat his cancel the runoff election because the November election will be overturned and won’t be needed, or don’t vote by mail?
Hoping his flock keep believing the election won’t be needed until it’s too late.

  10. The solutions to the mail issues: fill yours out and mail early, or use the drop boxes even if you have to make a special trip or let someone else do it for you if you trust them. Many of the counties with lower populations only have one drop box. Mine had the original two for the Nov 3 election plus 3 more installed for the runoff. I got notice from BallotTraxx that ours ballots were mailed today, so they should be here by Friday. They’ll go in the drop boxes next Monday.

You guys are exhibiting a real zaniness deficit, even though a couple of you seem to reside in Georgia.

I grew up in Georgia and am totally unsurprised by the attacks on Kemp and calls not to vote. I grew up on the Pickrick Papers.

(For non-Georgians, Pickrick was Lester Maddox’s chicken stand where he handed out ax handles to beat commie black people. He ran his thoughts in an ad on page 2 of The Atlanta Constitution almost every day.)
