Timing Is Everything

July 15, 2024 By: Half Empty Category: Uncategorized

We’ve all been watching the Florida documents case as Judge Aileen Cannon has handily delayed and pushed the case back and back in time. No way could it ever be tried before the Republican Convention.

And now, on Day One of the Republican Convention, Cannon dropped the ruling that Jack Smith was improperly appointed as Special Counsel, and therefore the documents case he brought against TFG was dismissed.

Mission accomplished. Judge Cannon did exactly as she must and no more. The appeal to the 11th Circuit Court practically writes itself, and that, doubtless, is exactly what is happening right now.

All moot if the Orange Julius Caesar wannabe is elected in November.

But that was the whole idea.

Be social and share!

  1. Cannon likely believes she is a shoo in as drumpf’s next worthless AG.

drumpf meanwhile has chosen sinator JD Vance as his running mate.

Things just get weirder and weirder and more predictable by the hour. Wonder if the loose cannon will be given an all expenses exotic vacation from one of the big spender friends of Alito or Thomas. After all, she one of the boys now.

I’ve heard it reported that, in her opinion, all the SCOTUS decisions regarding Special Prosecutors since the Nixon case in 1974–50 effing years ago–were “wrongly” decided. I wonder how that is going to go over with her fellow jurists.

  4. Kinda off topic, but sorta not. In my neck of the woods in southeast Texas I’m seeing almost NO trump bumper stickers and yard signs or flags. And when I think back to the number of bumper stickers in 2020, there have to have been some taken off. What’s it like on that front elsewhere?

This is a pretty blue part of Oregon but you don’t need to travel far to be in trumpfland and in the “I want to be part of Iduhoo” bunch. Geographically those areas dwarf this part of Oregon. Not long ago we were at a little league tournament game where one team was from such an area. Some parents were wearing trumpf shirts and hats. One of them had a shirt that was highly suggestive of bringing harm to Biden. But magats never do that, right.

Steve@5 – I’m living on the very border of blue and red Oregon (near  Madras). West of us being blue, East red. And yes, “Move Oregon Border” movement is very much alive here too! True, the red areas are geographically dwarfing blue ones, but many red parts of Oregon are very sparsely populated. The bigger cities are mostly blue, as much as I know.

BUT. I have to say this. I’m living in a farming community. Many of my neighbours voted for Trump and will vote again. But you would be hard pressed to find more honest, humble, hard working, friendly and generous people. What kind of woodoo Trump is using to get their votes – don’t ask me. I wish Democrats would learn some of his magic tricks.

As for Trump bumper stickers – nope, not TOO many here. Definitely less than 2020.

  7. Please don’t be defeatist! I feel like after a hit, Republicans rally, but Democrats (at least recently) just give up. As part of our local Dem outreach, I called several Dem voters today, (folks who have applied for ballots by mail in the past) and reminded them of the deadlines. Five out of seven requested applications for ballot by mail and were so appreciative that our group would mail them out. It’s going to take a lot of work, but we can do this! Si se puede!

  9. The yard signs are suddenly going up in my area near a very, very large military base. Biden Harris all the way. Have yet to see a Trump sign. Maybe its ‘cuz we are so close to DC and get the very first look at what Trump did and tried to do; example, pals with dictators was bad enough and then Jan 6. There are residential areas behind the Capitol and those folks could see and hear first hand how Hell broke loose. And the man is running to be king. Actually, he wants to be God Almighty.

  10. Jack Smith said Monday he would appeal this horrendous opinion.

We just drove from Houston through the panhandle to get to Colorado. When we did this trip during the 2020 election season, it was nauseating to see the number and variety of Trump flags and other totems of the adoration of the sheeple in the area. This time, we counted a total of 3 Trump flags on the whole trip. We saw some other signs of MAGA loyalty, such as the don’t tread on my flags, but hardly any Trump specific crap. It certainly made the drive much more enjoyable.

    Maggie@9

Here in deep red Carroll County, trump signs are rare, Biden signs non-existent.

But there is a Republicans Against Trump organization.

If I were running a campaign for any Democrat, I’d be stoking the Republican-on-Republican fires.

But I’m not and the people who are, are busy trynig to tear the Democatic Party apart.

  13. Even if Smith’s appeal is successful. it will take months to argue in the 11th circuit and there is no chance for a trial before the election.

Cannon might believe she will escape blame for slow walking this case until after the election.
