This Makes Me a Little Nervous
I truly hope Mike Bloomberg will be asked about this tonight.
As far back as November of last year, Bloomberg has said he will release his tax returns if he runs (he hasn’t said for how many years), but it’s starting to sound familiar.
In late January, the LA Times reported that Bloomberg got an extension to release the returns until after Super Tuesday.
Billionaire Michael R. Bloomberg won’t have to publicly disclose his finances until late March, well after voters in more than a dozen states — including California — take to the polls on Super Tuesday.
That also includes Texas.
Now, here’s where you can trip on the carpet: Bloomberg said he would sell his company, but his own namesake newspaper got a little squishy today.
A spokesman for Bloomberg LP, Ty Trippet, said that Bloomberg hadn’t decided the future of his company yet.
“As Mike has said numerous times, if elected president in November, he would either place the company in a truly blind trust or sell it. Currently, we’re not for sale,” Trippet said.
Trippet said later that putting the company in a blind trust would be the first step in the process toward a sale.
That made me cringe. I hadn’t heard the blind trust thing until today.
And the only mention of his tax returns is this —
“Mike Bloomberg will release his tax returns.”
When? How many years? Hummm …. crickets.
I’ll be listening tonight.
Jimmy Carter did a truly blind trust and was almost bankrupt when his term was up. And so were his siblings.
Wonder if Mike has that kind of trust in mind? Somehow I doubt it. But at his age he could sell and retire.
1The Portable Bloomberg: The Wit & Wisdom of Michael Bloomberg
“Mike simply did not say the things somebody wrote in this gag gift, which has been circulating for 30 years and has been quoted in every previous election Mike has been in.”
At the same time, Loeser added, “Mike openly admits that his words have not always aligned with his values and the way he has led his life and some of what he has said is disrespectful and wrong.” He did not provide specifics.

2A real life Gordon Gecko
3Well, there’s plenty of recent precedent for him to follow with JT and BS…shall we ask for his medical records while we’re at it? Time to put a woman in charge, if you ask me.
4Well, Fran, I voted for one woman and Bubba voted for the other one.
5which is exactly why mike needs to drop out. but keep his $, staff psychologists and comedy writers busy making delicious jabs at the fragile psyche of frump and his family.
6Reading the tea leaves, Ms. Juanita Jean Herownself. Early voting two weeks prior to Texas participation in the 3/3 “Super Tuesday” isn’t exactly the harbinger of a groundhog seeing its shadow. Apparently there’s nothing that might happen at the Democratic debate tonight nor in NV and SC that would shake up the standings of the candidates remaining. Fact is all any of us want for Christmas this year is a Democratic President.
The NBC “debate” tonight. Expecting about the average 1 second of excitement of a monster truck rally for the candidates. That will be when lame and limping limousine liberal Joe gets crushed by Magic Mike driving his $tretch limo. Meh. May take a side bet to keep from nodding off. A will he or will he not on Jon Ralston doing anything to stop Chuck Todd from sucking all the air out of the room and sucking in general.
7wth Our dope Gov Steve Sisolak just invited us to a CNN townhall for Democratic presidential candidates in Las Vegas tomorrow. Here “our” differentiates from “their” Republicon crazies. Steve is kind of Republicon-lite, merely dimwitted and not full blown st00pid.
The moral of the story? NV had a chance to elect a woman as governor. She wasn’t perfect, but a whole boatload smarter than that guy. Her name is Chris G. Because dawg forbid Nevadans ever learn to spell or pronounce Giunchigliani. Also ‘just a thought’ pushing my undecided leaning more toward Liz than Bernie.
8I would also like to see what buttigieg was doing to enhance the wealth disparity while working at McKinsey ( the company that through 21 years of Jeff Skilling gave us ENRON).
9Not to mention their advice to opiod manufactorers on how to “supercharge” their sales.
This is just a very tippy top of the foul and mendacious practices that McKinsey and Co pushed and that Mayor pete worked for, and is trying to keep hidden.
So lets see Bloomberg and demented donnie won’t show us their tax returns or commit to cutting all ties with their businesses.
Mayor pete is reticent about revealing all about his racist police force and his work for the .01%.
Sure sounds like a couple of trumpista’s running for the d nomination.
K @ 9 Thats some pretty serious research from waay far back. I just read this today.
Edit: “Everyone on this stage except Amy and me is either a billionaire or is receiving help from PACs that can do unlimited spending,” Warren said, referring to U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar.
Don’t forget your I.O.U./Political favor Senator!
Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren will get help in the final days before Nevada’s caucuses from a super PAC, despite her outspoken opposition to such fundraising efforts.
The organization, Persist, filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday and launched a new commercial in Nevada backing Warren’s White House bid.
Warren, a U.S. senator from Massachusetts, has centered her campaign on eliminating the influence of money in politics, forswearing high-dollar fundraisers and accusing billionaires like rival Michael Bloomberg of buying their way into the race.
But she cannot control independent political action committees known as super PACs, which may raise and spend unlimited funds as long as they do not coordinate with candidates’ campaigns.
In a statement, Warren’s campaign said, “Senator Warren’s position hasn’t changed. Since day one of this campaign, she has made clear that she thinks all of the candidates should lock arms together and say we don’t want super PACs and billionaires to be deciding our Democratic nominee.”
At the most recent Democratic debate in New Hampshire, Warren criticized other candidates for getting help from outside sources.
