This Is What I Live With

July 16, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

We have a local newspaper in my small town.  It’s a small daily and it’s nice to have when your kid wins an award or something.  This is not the first time they have caught my attention.

Before I begin, I will let you know that their masthead is totally male and totally white.  Look, I don’t have anything against white males.  I married one and gave birth to three of them.  White males are not evil within themselves.  Okay, some of them are. Some of them even think they are successful because their grandpa made lots of money and that makes them smart.

For a while now, they have been Donald Trump’s major ego suppliers.  They love him.  They would married him if that didn’t mean they’d be, you know, gay.

So, the morning after Trump announces Pence, they are on it like white on rice.  I’m gonna reprint it here and if they want to sue me, go ahead.  There isn’t a jury in the whole damn state that would not think that the .75 they charge daily for the online version of their newspaper isn’t the same fair price as picture show popcorn.

If that’s too small for you to read, the big copy is here.

They say Pence is cool-headed.  They also say that Pence is “in some ways a little Reaganesque.” I do not know where these boys were during the Reagan administration, but wherever they were, they were drunk.  Additionally, I would argue that his head is not cool, it is merely vacant.

The one thing they did get right is that the Koch Brothers love, love, love Pence.

You know, it’s real nice that they think Trump needs a counter-balance.  I agree, but, Honey, he couldn’t balance even if you mounted him on a tripod.

Be social and share!

  1. ¡Oh boy!
The facebook page “Periods For Pence” is really exploding now!

    1
  2. We have a paper like that, at least also overpriced with cute photos of neighbors’ kids. But today’s front page was: Nice, Turkey, and (front and center) town police and kids working together in a neighborhood program. Bottom of front page in small rectangle: Trump picks Pence for VP, see page 4.

    I just wouldn’t survive TX I’m afraid.

By the way… in the world of engineering a counterbalance is just dead weight. Just sayin…

And… IMHO Trump doesn’t need a counterbalance. A muzzle and straightjacket might be better.

I’m wondering, would the following be a perfect example of the staff listed in the mast-head?

That’s certainly a gnarly masthead. NV suffers the fate of having one of its two state wide newspapers, the Las Vegas Review-Journal owned by Shelly Adelson. Jane and I do not subscribe. We’ve not even glanced at a copy to see what the old monster is having his editorial board write about Hilz and Donnie Drumpf. Being lied to is offensive. Paying to be lied to by Shelly goes beyond description.

Hell, Fox Not the News comes free with our electronic teevee connection gizmo. We don’t watch that, either.

  6. Rastybob says:

The TP ticket, not much you could add to that.
    Lets see. No black votes.
No brown votes. [To close to black].
No high IQ or strong women votes.
No men that love and live with high IQ strong women votes.
Are their enough dumb bigots in this country elect the TP party?
OMG I fear for my Grandchildren.

  7. Thanks to “Crooks and Liars” for the headline:

Gov. Mike Pence: ‘I’m A Christian, A Conservative And A Republican, In That Order’

Somewhere…… at the top of that order should be….maybe….. “I’m an American”?????????

    Maybe?????

  8. SallyinMI says:

I heard Donnie on NPR this AM or somewhere, giving what resembled a speech. He got off on this tangent about LBJ, who evidently hated evangelicals (now, this is Trump history, so beware) so much that he passed an ‘amendment’ that made it illegal for those fine upstanding religious men (and Trump loves them all, so much, and they have been to visit him in the Tower, even a few Muslims, can you believe it, and they all tell me, they tell me so I believe them and they are all so great, such great people and Americans and so religious and we need that America needs that) to promote politics from the pulpit, or they might lose their God-given tax exemptions. Gee, I’m thinking, that’s no amendment; that’s in the Constitution, you asshole! This is going to get really ugly.
Does anyone else feel like they are trying to write Palinspeak when you report on Trump?

    8
  9. Two thoughts:

    1. Ahhhh… so it’s the Koch money Trump is after, not Pence himself. After all, Trump only does things from which he personally gains. And there was apparently no other way he could snuggle with the Koch brothers.

    2. If Trump should win the election, then quit (which I understand he can and might do), Pence becomes the president.

Yeah, we’ve got to make sure we all get out there and vote this year.

    9
  10. We in IN apologize altho’ not sincerely. Glad to see him go altho’ whoever replaces him in the governor’s race is likely to be as bad.

    10
  11. What the Fort Bend Herald writes: Mike Pence …may be the perfect counterbalance to Donald Trump.

What I read: Donald Trump is unbalanced.

    11
  12. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Miemaw for both the “capture” and the smack down! That is it, that is all. The snacilbupeR and their representatives are the ‘enemy within.’

When Donnie Drumpf and the Birthers were all “Manchurian Candidate” over President Obama’s birth certificate, their projection betrayed them. Beware. If anyone can crush America, it is the snacilbupeR with their austerity and Trickle Down economics. Behold Kansas with Brownback, the Koch brothers and their fatally flawed economic ‘policies.’ Spellcheck took policies to pillories. Point to spellcheck.

    12
  13. WA Skeptic says:

Considering how much the Koch Bros hate The Donald, he’d better be careful about letting Pence anywhere near him with poison or sharp instruments. How much do you think it would take for Pence to have an “Ides of March” moment and “Ta Dah” he’d be POTUS? The overthrow of our country would be complete.

    #TFP–Mama, don’t google that term.

    13
  14. Pence may have had some credibility but he blew that up by hooking himself to Trump.

Anyway, the man is waaay too concerned with controlling other people’s sex lives.

And, for Miemaw, one of my favorite quotations from Mark Twain, showing that not much has changed since the previous Gilded Age: “People seem to think that they are citizens of the Republican Party and that this is patriotism and sufficiently good patriotism. I prefer to be a citizen of the United States.”

    14
  15. AliceBeth says:

You need a counterbalance since something is “off” don’t you? “Off’ in like not right, not good and unable to work correctly.

    15
  16. l'angelomisterioso says:

@Miemaw#7- Pence did his best to do to Indiana what Brownstain has done to Kansas. That he didn’t succeed is Indiana’s good luck.
@ Rhea#14- as you say he’s blown his little credibility, It looked seriously like he wouldn’t even be reelected. the man was that unpopular in his home state.
As someone else upthread has noted this move was all about dRUMPf getting access to Koch cash. Insofar as Pence is a wholly-owned, bought-and paid-for subsidiary of the bros.dRUMPf gets access to their billions which I believe he needs, badly.

  17. AlanInAustin says:

“Reaganesque” in terms of “arms for hostages”, favoring gun control, having numerous & major scandals within the administration, or all three?

    17
  18. Marcia in CO says:

From what I’ve read on Facebook, the folks in Indiana hate Pence and doggone glad to see him go and pretty much amazed that ANYONE would want him for any reason!!

  19. Lindyrig says:

Like other pub guv’s he’s stripped millions from the kids to finance free tuition to the Charter schools. Tells me all I need to know.

  20. two crows says:

“I’m a conservative but I’m not angry about it.

    “Except at gays and women.

“Gays need to just get off my planet. If they don’t go voluntarily, I’ll give them a helping hand. After all, it’s been done before. Oh, for the good old days.

“And women can stay but they need to know their places. Kitchen. On their backs. In the living room, in a pinch, but only if they have a duster or vacuum in their hands. Places like that. Not in the work force and CERTAINLY not in the White House!”

Yeah, he’s not angry. I’m sure he can convince someone of that.

    20
  21. The Herald loves Trump but they refer to his statements as “bombastic?” Do they know what the word means?

    Hint: It’s similar to “trumpery.”

Re Pence being like Reagan, they are/were both carbon-based lifeforms.

Unlike Trump, who seems to be cheetos-based.

    21
  22. e platypus onion says:

Some wingnut group had Mathews conduct a recent poll and found Pence’s favorable rating was 40% and unfavorable rating was 42%.

    22
  23. Prup (aka Jim Benton) says:

    From Steve Benen, Friday:

Let’s put this another way: during his congressional career, Pence wasn’t just more conservative than Paul Ryan. His voting record also put him to the right of Michele Bachmann, Todd Akin, Steve King, and even Louie Gohmert. That’s not an exaggeration. Bachmann, Akin, King, and Gohmert all had voting records less extreme than Mike Pence.

    [Emphasis mine]
The ranking is based on one of Nate the Ardent Argent’s (Nate Silver) favorite stats, apparently.

To the right of Louie, Michele, Steve King, now THAT takes talent .. or something.

    23
  24. The Kochs are saying they’re money Is Not going to Scumpf, their lapdog Pus not withstanding.

Fred, that’s a great image and very appropriate for the snacilbupeR slime.

    24
  25. My sympathies for your misery. Good news from my hometown very Conservative owned paper in a mostly liberal city and state.
“GOP’s ‘reality show’ set to begin in Cleveland”
“The only thing worse than Donald Trump losing is Donald Trump winning,” said Kevin Spillane, a Sacramento-based GOP strategist.”

  26. “What I read: Donald Trump is unbalanced.”

I think that’s been pretty obvious for some time now.

    26
  27. Steve The Returned says:

Mike Pence: Sarah Palin without the charisma.

    27
  28. maryelle says:

I know it is dangerous not to take this circus seriously, but SERIOUSLY, these clowns are too ridiculous to be given any credibility. The polls showing Drumpf close to or surpassing Clinton have to be skewed, or there are so many more morons in this country than intelligent voters. If that is the case, nothing can be done. You can’t cure stupid. I’m depressed.

    28
  29. Mary in San Antonio says:

My cousin lives in Kentucky and teaches high school in Indiana. He has been a fervent Trump supporter from the first, but he despises Pence for what he has done to education funding in Indiana. Now that Pence is Trump’s running mate, I wonder if my cousin is still planning to vote for Trump.

    29
  30. Kris Williams says:

Yep, great counterbalance, especially from a dude who once argued that smoking cigarettes doesn’t cause cancer!

We need more deep thinkers like him

    30
  31. Pence was “plucked” by Trump? Nothing Freudian there.
