The City of Keller, Texas, is a northern suburb of Fort Worth. It is Tea Party Central in Keller, Texas.

Keller school board member Jo Lynn Haussmann is a Tea Party member. She don’t cotton to foreigners, especially ones … well, you know.
So she took to Facebook over the results from the city council election in neighboring South Lake
Haussmann made the comments on Facebook, saying: “SOUTH LAKE – Do you realize because SO FEW voters took the time and responsibility to VOTE in the municipal elections – YOU NOW HAVE A ‘MUSLIM’ on the City Council!!! What A SHAME!!!!!”
The comments were in reference to Southlake Councilman Shahid Shafi, a surgeon. He, like Haussmann, was elected to his position in May.
Five exclamation points make it over the line, I suspect. Two or three exclamation points would have made it reasonable. And she did put Muslim in quotation marks so we’d know that it didn’t have the right to stand next to perfectly acceptable English words.
Jo Lynn has apologized, saying, “I don’t know how I could have been so stupid.” Well, Honey, I do. That’s exactly how you talk to your friends. In your mind, the only stupid thing was putting it on Facebook.
Jo Lynn is not resigning her school board seat. Dr. Shafi has invited her to lunch.

Clearly the ability to write a grammatically correct sentence is not a requirement to serve on the school board in her village.

Folks like Jo Lynn just don’t get it. Immigrants of any region and religion come here for a multitude of reasons. Two of the prime reasons are to leave a region where their odds on living are not good (political asylum) and the opportunity to invest in a business. Republicans who claim to ‘own’ family values sure are slow to embrace people with outstanding family values, such as those who brave the immigration process for the sake of their families and the LGBT community who only want to marry, work, and raise their families.
She should take the opportunity to meet and greet Dr. Shafi. Narrow minded people miss out on so many opportunities, when they reject any person or group based on superstitious & ignorant bias.
However, if Dr. Shafi left his native home for safety reasons, he sure didn’t land on Texas gun nuts in his research.
Wake up Republicans and be grateful that homosexuality isn’t in the current DSM as a disorder. Typing slowly for Republicans: doofi and doofettes, seriously can you not see the benefit of hard working tax paying homosexuals in committed relationships, or do you seriously want to exclude them and create another of your favorite groups, moochers?
Help good people at The World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc. I need help writing a simple ‘bumper sticker’ for the doofi and doofettes that nails the benefits of inclusion and underscores the stupidity of exclusion.

Will she learn? Doubtful. Will others learn if she receives a serious smack down from Dr. Shafi? Even more doubtful. Intrenched stupid needs a bulldozer, not a debate to remove it.
Expand the ACA and medicare to deliver the medications the GOP and fringes so desperately need.

18Hey Marge! My mother was raised in Stamford Texas (that’s Abliene’s close neighbor, ya’ll). She came from a family of strong, just, generous, fierce, loving women who would have “stomped a mud hole” in this Jo Lynn person for several reasons: 1) using the name of someone else’s religion like it was a BAD WORD, 2) not having the courage to talk to him face to face and choosing to spread her opinions about him around the electric universe like so much gossip, 3) insulting a doctor (I mean, really – someone whose life’s work is saving/preserving life) 4) disparaging (indirectly) the people who got off their patooties and voted (that would have started a yelling match in my house). What we learned today: do not mess with women from west Texas.
