The Lawyers!

In making nighttime news

The F.B.I. on Monday raided the office of President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, seizing records related to several topics including payments to a pornographic-film actress.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan obtained the search warrant after receiving a referral from the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, according to Mr. Cohen’s lawyer, who called the search “completely inappropriate and unnecessary.”

When your lawyers have to have lawyers, you just might be … in a damn mess you can’t swim out of.

Lemme see if I have this right.  Investigating Bill Clinton for consensual sex is perfectly fine when Ken Starr was doing it, but not when it happens to Trump.  Oh yeah, that makes sense.

This just in:  Agents also raided Cohen’s room at the Regency Hotel in New York.  Agents stayed for several hours.

Thanks to Deb T. for the heads up.

Sounds as though somebody’s in a whole mess of trouble. It’s time to start looking at the crime/fraud exception to attorney – client privilege.

My guess is that Syria should look to its missile defense systems -I predict a big inbound distraction.

  3. I think Cohen has some serious problems. It takes some serious reviews by several layers in the Justice Dept. for a search warrant to be issued for a client’s attorney’s office. But I notice that MSNBC keeps showing a picture of Cohen, Flynn, and Rick Perry standing together and talking. Flynn is already in trouble, and now Cohen is in the cross hairs. Rick Perry? What’s up with that?

  4. If we here at the Beauty Salon made allegations like alt-right conspiracy theorists, we’d be claiming the fire in Trump Tower last week was started when legal assistants lost control of the burning documents.

    4
  5. Trump placed a target on Cohen’s back when he was asked about the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels and replied [paraphrasing here]: “You’ll have to ask/talk to Michael Cohen about that.” Cohen went out on a limb for Trump a few weeks ago and said that when he paid Daniels the money, he did it for a client and a friend, and he’d do it for other clients and friends. He has now learned that when one is dealing with Trump, loyalty is a one-way street. LOL.

  7. I hate to keep saying nearly the same thing about one MizJJ post after another, but of the foo sh!ts …

Michael Cohen has Backpfeifengesicht too. “a few sips of Backpfeifengesicht before dinner” for Michael Cohen. Please. Requesting for America.

The ground is falling out from under the Dump Circus with the raiding of Cohen’s office by the FBI regarding fraud and other charges. MSNBC is reporting that Mueller has turned this investigation over to the southern district of New York office,so it is not integral to the Russia investigation at this point.
This may be much more than the Stormy Daniels issue.

  9. NicaBrian says:

Kind of funny how Clinton’s investigation somehow went from cattle futures to a blue dress yet that was within the scope of the investigation, which was as tortured As the gerrymandered district in Pennsylvania that connected through a steak house. Now they’re screeching about anything that doesn’t include the word Collusion is beyond the scope. Well, it doesn’t take the an astrophysicist to see what the Hubble is going on here.

I am astounded that these people are just now finding out that being associated with Don the Con could get you messed up, BIGLY!

  11. Cohen’s lawyer says the FBI seizure of the documents is a violation of attorney-client privilege.

Last I heard, the dictator tot claimed he knew nothing about the payment to Ms. Stormy. If he didn’t, then there could be no communications on that subject between him and his lawyer. If there were, then he knew.

One or the other, he can’t have both, and his dementia can’t get him out of it.

  12. I sure hope those FBI folks wore their hazmat sui

  13. Oops, sorry, sorry everyone. Hazmat suits when they entered his hotel room. That guy makes an actual swamp seem like a fresh spring day by comparison.

Additional charges seem to be bank fraud and campaign law violations. Here we go.

ny southern district? Trump appointed? Authorized this? Trump’s ranting that it is an all Democratic witch hunt.

  16. Chloe Bear says:

“For the United States Department of Justice to raid a lawyer’s office and his residence is absolutely extraordinary,” the Connecticut lawmaker said. “This kind of search warrant is a profoundly significant development; one of the most important in this entire investigation over the last year and a half.”

Blumenthal said he believes that the raid raises the stakes for all those involved.

“This development means that the Southern District of New York, which is outside of the direct purview Special Counsel is not intimately involved in this investigation, so it protects the Special Counsel’s investigation in the way that it insulates it from firing Rod Rosenstein, because the Southern District of New York cannot be fired and the judge who approve that warrant cannot be fired. So, this is now an investigation that has a life of its own,” he said.

Blumenthal said that the raid “means that the President is likely to be even more impulsive and wrathful than he has been so far.”

Fox ilk is screaming from roof tops in harmony that it’s a breach of attorney client privilege!! Burn them all!!! Ahem….

Cohen’s lawyer, David Schwartz, was on CBS recently adamantly insisting that Cohen is not Trump’s lawyer and repeatedly said “You have to understand, it’s a different kind of relationship. It’s not a lawyer-client relationship.”

So he’s Trump’s pal and not his lawyer, and whatever seized between the two isn’t privileged (and wouldn’t be anyway if involves a crime). Thanks, Michael Cohen’s lawyer!

    17
  18. Wish I knew how to make a link to the meme that shows several photos of Hillary Clinton smiling and pointing, variously captioned, “You need a lawyer,” “You need a lawyer,” “You need a lawyer,” “And you’d better get two!”

    18
  19. maryelle says:

Trump will be apoplectic when he learns he can’t fire anybody involved in this raid. Maybe he will turn his wrath on Pruitt.

For the legal minds among us…at 6:28 is when Cohen’s lawyer insists Cohen is not Trump’s lawyer on CBS news panel. He does keep calling Cohen a fixer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=386&v=RzmV39BH5-Y

  21. 1st thing I noticed is that this is via state court– out of Pres. Shithole’s reach and pardoning power. His entire scheme has just imploded. He can’t help anyone. He’ll pardon them for one thing and N.Y. will indict them for another. Mueller is simply light years, I. Said. LIGHT. YEARS. Ahead of Pres Shithole. He’s a chess grand master playing with a delusional beginner. With Mueller pres Shithole is toast. With the kids and the Resistance the GOP is toast.
    Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!! Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!

  22. Does tRump’s lawyer Cohen’s own lawyer, David Schwartz, have himself a lawyer yet? And will that tertiary level lawyer need to have a quaternary level lawyer for himself? ad infinitum…
Their first court hearing will have to reserve a few rows behind the defendant(s), just to hold them all.

This may get reeeaaallll good shortly.
It would be nice to see the Malignant Mango juiced with some cheap Mexican rum, and pouring out of the blender.

Then again, John Bolton is moving into his WH office, Kelly might be moving out(?), a jolly diversionary war or three cannot be far off.
Guaranteed to happen before October, in time for the November elections…

Have y’all dug out, built, stocked and armed your backyard bunkers yet?

  23. slipstream says:

I do believe the term David Schwartz was trying to avoid saying, as he insisted that Cohen is not Trump’s lawyer, is that Cohen serves in a different capacity: consigliere.

  24. Saw this this morning.

    MAGA

    My Attorney Got Arrested.

Lock him up should be the rallying cry for the midterms. Has a nice ring to it, don’t ya think????

  25. Old Fart says:

    @Dianne #24:
    *Ahem*…

    Lock them up!
    Lock them up!
    LOCK THEM UP!!!!

    25
  26. maryelle says:

Crone, according to Lawrence O’Donnell, the US. attorney for the southern district of NY is Geoffrey Berman, a temporary Trump appointee who has not yet been confirmed and who may never be if he shows “disloyalty” to Trump. Apparently, his tenure runs out on May 3rd if he has not been confirmed by then. Lets hope he steps up.

    26
  27. Susan on the Left Coast says:

Marielle…I think it was Berman’s name I saw early today…that had recused himself. If not him, it was a Trump appointee in NY that did.

Slipstream…I agree with you….pretty sure consigliere-client privilege can be traced back to the Borgias. 😉

    27
  28. Susan on the Left Coast says:

sorry for double posting! re: Trump appointee, Berman…”ABC News has learned Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, is recused from the Michael Cohen investigation. He had no role in raid of Cohen’s office.”

“Michael Cohen’s desire to cast himself as a real-life Ray Donovan made him a kind of overwrought, grunting thug character destined for the cutting-room floor in even the most lurid soap opera script,” <– from article by Rick Wilson, a Never Trump Republican 'media guy' https://www.thedailybeast.com/fbi-raid-on-michael-cohen-is-the-most-dangerous-day-of-donald-trumps-life?source=twitter&via=mobile

    28
  29. maryelle says:

Right, Susan otLC, what I read said that Berman was recused. Not sure if he did it hisownself or if Rosenstein or some other full time attorney in that office did it. Hope to learn more on this.
