The Goodest People I Know
We have a little Mom and Pop food establishment / caterer / food truck / in my hometown of Richmond. They are the goodest people I know. They cook like grandma, except better. They are M&M Southern Creole Kitchen.
They are feeding people – people in shelters, first responders, people who are land-locked and running out of food, volunteers. They are trying to feed 2,000 people this weekend. Their loyal local customers are supporting them as best we can because we believe in them.
This takes money and they need help to do this again today, tomorrow, and as long as it’s needed.
I trust them with my money and you can, too. There is no middle-man here. Every penny that comes in goes toward food. $5 will buy someone’s lunch and a big glass of iced sweet tea.
You can donate by clicking right here and scroll down until you see DONATE. You do NOT have to have a Pay Pal account to donate. There’s a place for a note on the donation form. Tell them where you are from and that you’re a friend of Don and Susan Bankston so they won’t think you’re some troll. They know who we are because Don loves their fried chicken.
Thank you. Houston gets all the help and often it’s the small towns surrounding Houston that get forgotten.
Thank you again! This chef-in-training needs some more fresh veggies to cook.
Ma’am, when I click the link, it says my donation is completed. Fixy?
1I think I fixed it. Try again! And thank you.
2Juanita,
3I wanted to donate, clicked the link, but it told me I already did! I suspect you copied the link after YOU donated. Tried to donate by searching for M&M Southern Creole Kitchen on paypal, but nothing came up in the list. So I went to M&M web page (https://www.mmsoutherncreolekitchen.com/) and THEY have a ‘donate’ button.
First time caller, long time listener. LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog.
Respectfully,

Done, good to know where to send help! I’ve Tweeted this out (I’ll do it again later in the day), other members of the Salon might wish to do the same?
Folks want to help and want to know their money will be spent wisely. Local charities are on the ground, know the situation and the players, as such they are often in a better position to know what the needs are and to spend your money wisely.
4Thanks for the link Mrs. B and great advice, Deb!
5It worked! Thank you!
6I really like being able to feed a bunch of people when I don’t have to cook!
7Site seemed a little flaky (could be my browser — it’s old and outdated like me), but, as confirmed online by my bank, it worked. Thanks JJ for identifying a place where it looks like contributions will have an almost immediate impact.
8Thank you! It’s good to be able to send some money where I know it will do some good. Not a lot to send, but I hope it helps.
9Yes, I just put that link to their webpage. These guys have never had a donate link before now so it’s a pilgrim experience for them.
10Sent some money their way, but didn’t see a place to tell them why and where from. Don’t really matter; send them a group hug, if you can.
11Done, with PayPal it was easy.
12Bought a few meals…Regular reader.
13Done…with great pleasure!
14I will add that I avoid Paypal at all costs when I can. Here, I see, they took over my payment and credited it to their account. Wish there was a way to avoid them. (I do not like them, Sam I Am.)
Nevertheless, I am very glad I sent money to these folks. It would take more than an aversion to Paypal to stop me.
15Susan, thank you for making donating more personal. My youngest works in 911 dispatch in Fayetteville, NC and served a 36 hour shift when Hurricane Matthew hit last year. I am very grateful to be able to pay-it-forward in small measure a thanks for all the help his office received at that time.
16I’m with Ralph…I love to feed people when it doesn’t involved cleaning the house and cooking for days! It took my credit card, and there was a comment block near the top to let ’em know you sent me.
Y’all stay dry…we’re getting your remnants in NC today, so I hope that means Harvey is done messin’ with you.
17done…heading over to la grange in the morning to help out with the clean up, etc
18Donated– easy with the kitchen’s donation link but no way to say I’m a friend of the Bankstons.
19Done. I said that Juanita Jean and Bubba sent me.
20Done (and that food looks amazing, wish they could cater dinner since it’s my night to cook and I’m knee dish in pickles and relish).
Another worthy site (if it’s not been mentioned- heck, even if it has, still worthy) is https://houston-strong.myshopify.com/ You can pick what you’d like shipped, babies to seniors.
21Y’all are the best people I know. Thank you so much. Ya did some good things today.
22Done! I love Paypal. And I love you, JJ. You’re good people.
23Done. Glad to help.
24Done – great people!!!
25I clicked on link earlier in the day no problem. I just added a message on Paypal page. Nice to be able to help directly.
26Yep, I’m in for a few lunches. Told them Susan sent me, said they were good peeps, and I believe what Susan says.
27Done. In for some lunches. Thanks for sharing this, real people doing for real people is a good thing.
28Done. No problems. Used PayPal.
29I’ve read and just loved your blog for years but decided it was time to say hello and tell you that I appreciate all your efforts. Thanks for this link…kind of wondered where we wanted to donate and this was perfect.
30Thanks, Susan for telling us about this nice family. The food sounds wonderful. Donation made.
31You had me when I saw the chef-in-training and then I looked at the menu. Honey buttermilk chicken??!! Holy-moly, I may have to head down south for that.
32Hugs!~
33Thanks for posting this, JJ. What a great family. Happily donated.
34Donation made. Thank you for pointing us in the direction if a worthy cause/group
35Done from Los Angeles. Re-posted, on Facebook as well.
36I also donated and posted link on FB. Thanks for the idea, JJ!
37I just talked the first M in M&M. She was in tears. Thanks to you guys, her husband (the other M) was able to get into Houston today to buy meat from their supplier. They will serve the shelters all weekend. They start the food truck next week to go into neighborhoods and fed people trying to clean out their houses. We will keep you updated and, as always, I cannot thank you enough for helping the good people in my little town.
38I didn’t have any problem using my Visa card. There was a space for a note, but I forgot to use it to mention JJ and the hubs. This is really nice, having specific, identifiable people to trust and help. Thanks, Juanita Jean. You’re a peach.
39A bit late to the party but donation has been sent!
40Donation sent from the MN northwoods. Thanks to JJ for highlighting M&M and the service they are providing.
41JJ, please forgive us for my Grandma. Stopping her is akin to stopping your Mama. Ain’t happening. She e-mailed the busy M&M Southern Creole Kitchen wanting to know where she and her friends could directly send money to them.
But points to Grandma. She did mention you and Don. If they don’t have a PO Box, we’ll try to convince Grandma and her friends that we’ll deposit their money and send it along via PayPal and absorb whatever % PayPal takes. Old folks are adorable, but they can be cussed stubborn.
42You are all the most generous and selfless folks. I am SO appreciative. We ALL are. There is no way we could do this without your help as we are a small operation, but we have big dreams and bigger hearts. Looks like tomorrow we will feed out approximately 500 meals. And each day will be providing meals for walk in evacuees as well as going out into the communities where folks are working to salvage what they can… And of course, the shelters. We are also working with the first responders and have so far delivered four times to them. Again I thank you so much. We try to use what we have to bless others and you are the backbone to that. I apologize for not being able to thank everyone individually but there are a lot of folks donating, and I have so much to be done. Some send $50 some send $5. Every amount counts just as much and a little bit adds up to a lot. We are back in our homes – as we too were evacuated, and the river finally slowed its roll. This will be a long recovery. Thanks SO much Ms. Juanita Jean. You are AWESOME!
43Sent a donation from Philomath, OR. Thinking of all of you in Texas. And thanks for suggesting this worthy recipient.
44Thanks, JJ. Donation done, and I noted it was because of you. The charitable response to all of Texas in this horrible disaster gives me hope for the future of our country. We are, indeed, all Americans and must come together in our hours of need. May God bless you and Bubba and all the good folks at M&M and your host of readers! Please keep up the good work.

46Thanks for the info and link as well as entertaining us for all these years with your humor and steadfastness in making the world a better place! Well wishes from Lexington, S.C.
47Thanks for posting this. I hope my meager donation will help.
