The Bad News, and the Worse News

January 18, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Alt-Right Racists, Russians

The Bad News:  Word is coming out that Parler is back up, but not available to its racist base – yet.

The Worse News: The social media platform has moved to a new web service hosted by…wait for it…the Russian Federation.

Whoa, Nelly!

Be social and share!

  1. Don’t know why thats surprising – They’ve been funding the alt-right in this country for years – training them in their war with Ukraine, doing everything they can to destroy us from within

Just in time for Biden/Harris to unleash a few tools in the cyber security chest to shoot down all Russian signals. Vlad is so stupid/desperate with Donnie departing ,he forgot all about sanctions.

Hope the Mercers have their Parler investment insured. Nah. Not really.

This is absolutely not a surprise. It’s the first thought I had after hearing that Amazon had stopped providing a web platform for Parler.

  4. Ya gotta wonder what them Russians are gonna do with all that personal info on all them seditionists, Putin’s wildest dream maybe wasn’t the Chump, but was/is the hordes of Chumpanzees that will follow him anywhere…

    4
  5. If there was any doubt Russia has been involved in the chaos in our country, well, that’s out the window (not suggesting anyone be thrown out of a window).

Jane & PKM Unfortunately (more bad news) Russians are winning the cyber-security war and their December attack is still ongoing and successful. Can’t remember where I first saw something about this (I read too much too fast and don’t take notes) but there was a USA Today article on January 5 about the attack. (Suggests to me Russians knew the Jan 6 attack was in the works that they did their internet attack in late December….the announcement of Russia’s involvement on Jan 5 could’ve been another of the Administration’s deflections.

Saw something way last summer about lagging US parity in cyberwarfare areas…I don’t remember the details or what it said other than the Koreans and Russians were considered to have overtake and were passing/had passed the US. Everything I know about details is WAY out of date and my coding skills are like rusty 18th c. hand-forged tools found when a graveyard is moved. I can just barely read and comprehend the news articles in the more technical literature. But the bottom line is, I wouldn’t count on our being able to cut out all Russian intrusion without crashing a major part of the internet we use for far more than social media.

So, Parler will be on a Russian web service? Gee, for the first time, they will be forced into Truth in Advertising. At least it will be clear whose side they’re on.

  8. CNN bustin chops on Trump for being rude to the Biden’s and not doing a transition. I think Joe is saying “Yesssss”, l don’t gotta be nice. “

  9. Jane & PKM says:

Ms. Moon, USA Today is the paper without reliable sources for people who can’t read.

As discussed with twocrows and Micr earlier today. Without either denying or confirming anything, I can say this: the writers and editorial staff at USA Today couldn’t read the directions that come with a two step child’s balsa airplane.

  10. ddos-guard.net is from the Russian Federation, and it’s their equivalent of Cloudflare in the US. Being from Russia, there’s no telling how much of their business is directly related to Russian intelligence agencies. geotool shows parler.com as being out of Belize. It’s probably just a proxy location.

  11. Jane & PKM says:

Teh Gerg, may I suggest the Occam’s razor analysis to this particular ‘security emergency’?

Given the third rate newspapers and others like them tossing newspapers under the doors of no star motels for free, reporting bait dropped by whatever agency promoting fear to support budget increases before an incoming Congress. No worries.

Our intelligence agencies are bloated, over funded, but not as incompetent as they sometimes seem. Despite the damage of 4 years of the fu king moron, they’ll do just fine with a reduced budget and an administration with the ability to act on real information.

With an honestly led DOJ in place, who knows? Maybe wannabe players like Bekah M will face the consequences of their decisions.

    11
  12. Jane @ PKM: not to disagree, but I believe we’re not on the same subject page.

    12
  13. At what point did Republicans change their view on Russia from Better Dead Than Red, to Better Them Than Dem?

    13
  14. Steve from Beaverton says:

Parler will be the go to platform for the nuttiest repugnanticans like marjorie Taylor Q greene who have been kicked off others. And maybe the Trumpf family, too. Hopefully the fbi can keep an eye on the right wing terrorists plans now.

    14
  15. Jane & PKM says:

Teh Gerg @12, if you could be more specific, we may not be that far apart.

    Rick @ 13, 2015?

Steve @15, perhaps a Russian based cloud platform is best for Marjorie Quack-a-Non, et al. A nice non violent shot to all the whack jobs with a soft landing into due process.

    15
  16. An article says that US intelligence agencies can’t collect data on users of networks within the US but can do so abroad, so Russian hosting for Parler allows US data collection on its users.
    That sounds like a plus.

  17. Just something to consider, when Parler was hosted by AWS, the spooks could get the info, but they had to work at it to stay legal. Now that the Ruskies are hosting, it’s ALL legal, free and clear! And no hacking needed!

    17
  18. Msn, Thanks!
I hadn’t heard of balloon-juice before, but it looks fantastic.

    18
  19. Msb, sorry. My phone is constantly trying to say what it apparently thinks I really mean.
    I have a repugnantcan phone.
    The shame.

    19
  20. Can’t say I’m shocked or surprised. Putin got what he always wanted – a free doorway into the hearts and minds – wait a minute – scratch that – after the Wednesday Insurrection hearts and minds of a certain percentage of the population simply does not compute. And is he in for a surprise! They will be just as out of control for him as the would be for anyone else.

    20
  21. So they aren’t even pretending anymore. The mental gymnastics are mind boggling. Of course they will go encrypted and all, as if that will hide their tracks.

    22
  22. @ P.P.
No problem. I like BJ’s mix of politics, pets, photos and recipes. One of their regular posters appears to have a security background.

    23
  23. Sam in Superior says:

Big problem for Parler if they use this hosting service. The same company hosts the official site of Hamas which means Parler doing business with DDOS GUARD violates anti-terrorism laws.

    24
  24. @Jane & PKM: I’m talking about internet mechanisms, and I think you’re talking about intent and methods. Nothing wrong on either end.
