Thank You, Nancy.
Nancy Pelosi just announced that she would not be seeking her position as Speaker of the House or Minority Leader.
We won’t find anybody as smart as she is and I heard that Adam Schiff isn’t entering the fray because he’s considering running for senate. Pelosi’ stop two deputies, Steny Hoyer of Maryland and Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, were both born before chocolate chip cookies were invented.
Surely we can find someone young, vigorous, and smarter than Kevin McCarthy, which is a very low bar.
The really courageous thing that she did today was to stay on for another term as an “ordinary” Rep. Most other people in her position would have resigned everything and just walked away. Not her, thank Dawg.
Rumor has it that Hakeem Jeffries is the favorite to replace here. We’ll see.
1Pelosi has done a masterful job. I wish Katie Porter was ready, but she’s not quite; that woman is sooo smart, I wish she was my Representative!
2Me, too, Grandma Ada. She’s great.
3Not that I’m questioning you, Grandma Ada, but I am wondering why you say she’s not ready? Is it just that she needs more time in office?
4Now would be a good time for the Dems to fill the leadership with people too young to remember JFK’s assassination. Give them a couple years leading the minority, so they are ready to step up in 2025. Pelosi is certainly the best speaker in my lifetime, maybe the best ever. Regardless, it’s time for a generational change in our government, and as with anything good that happens in DC, Democrats need to lead the way.
5Hey, are you the Bill F. I know from WACDTF?
6Thank you, Speaker Pelosi for all your accomplishments particularly in tough times when the other side of the House never acted in good faith. You’ll be a tough act to follow.
Bad visual: Kevin Mcarthy attempting to fill her shoes, then walk in them.
If Speaker Pelosi should retire to be with her family that would be understandable. Between Steny, Jim and others there is plenty of experience between them to mentor either Rep. Porter or AOC as House Minority Leader as we hope to hell in 2024 to have significant majorities in Congress and a Democratic president to get things done.
Fun note: McCarthy might be just the man to prove the GOP cannot govern. Thus, producing a real Blue Tsunami in 2024.
7OOPS!
My applause to Bill F. for saying older folks need to “pass the torch to a new generation” didn’t come through.
YESSSS! THIS!!!
8She was a great Speaker. I hope she passes on this wall decoration to McCarthy, as a reminder of the shoes he has to fill:

I had a feeling she would do so. It’s a perfect time to pass the baton, yet still be available to help. It’s looking like Hakeem Jeffries (NY), Katherine Clark (MA) and Pete Aquilar (CA) are lined up. Steny also making room for the others, and WaPo reports Clyburn will drop down to #4. Makes sense. I hope Schiff gives Feinstein a bump out the door. As for filling Nancy’s shoes, ole McCarthy is in big trouble! This actually might be fun to watch. A single digit majority is not at all helpful to them, but may be good for Ds in 2024.
10When folks suggested she step down, I argued just the opposite — that in a time of turmoil and uncertainty we needed to keep in place experienced people whose calm, steady leadership would help guide the nation. I’m so happy she’s stayed and proven me right, even beyond what I imagined. Nobody could have done better.
11I nominate Jamie Raskin. He did superb work with the impeachment and the January 6 committee.
12From the perspective of someone who lives WAAAAAY outside the USA, Katie Porter has unfortunately got two trivial but IMHO very significant handicaps when considering her for any leadership position.
Her looks and, much more importantly, her voice. One is inherent, but the other can be ameliorated.
I KNOW this should not be the case, but she needs speech therapy.
13@6 Malarkey,
14No, not the same Bill F. I live in Louisville.
Last night, Stephen Colbert announced Nancy’s new title: Obi-wan Pelosi
15My first thought was also Katie Porter and with Pelosi as mentor she could be a driving force. Just my opinion.
16I agree with everyone that Pelosi has done a stellar job. She will be so missed in the future. Glad she is staying on to eye everyone at the speaker’s place. I am okay with Hakeem– I don’t think he minces words. We need strength and firmness, with no milquetoasterie. I also adore Katie Porter and hope she rises in the party. I’m okay with AOC also– she gets a bad rap for so much…Best of all, these people are 25-35 years younger than me, so they fill the bill. Offered with bushels of thanks to the amazing Nancy Pelosi…
17Looking forward to Hakeem Jeffries facing off against Kevin McCarthy. He’ll have that dolt tied up in knots.
18I can’t praise or admire Pelosi enough. Thank God especially that we had her to stand up to trump. Her courage helped to pass ACA, which is the main reason my favourite relative survived his “widow maker” heart problem. God bless you, ma’am.
19Glad to see the back of Hoyer, and that Obi-wan will be around to mentor the new team.
