Teachers as Armed School Security; Now Trump Wants Them to be Prison Guards
All of us are aware of Trump stupidly supporting arming teachers in public schools to supposedly protect little children from mass shooters who have easy access to weapons of war. NOW, his irresponsible budget slashing is placing the same requirement on healthcare workers, counselors, and teachers working in federal prisons. Mindless budget slashing (while handing out over a trillion dollars of tax cuts to billionaires) has created a critical shortage of prison guards in facilities housing our most dangerous criminals.
The idiocy of this cretin infesting the White House is destroying lives, dragging down the economy, and now putting professional healthcare workers and teachers in harms way, just because.
There’s a time for anger, and this is it.
VOTE!
1Hey, Trump, what’s wrong with using the 82nd Airborne for that work? They are 1.) trained in safe weapons use and 2.) not invading Montreal today!
Or is that too Posse Comitatus for you?
2I’m almost tempted to say that that where we need arms is for the ones of us storming the castle….
Charles R, are you sure they’re not invading Montreal today?
3Rhea, if they were, it would have leaked.
Just a guess, but yeah, that’s what I believe.
4Over the years, I saw many responsibilities added to my job, apart from teaching academic disciplines. Most were those ideally covered by parents, but were neglected by busy adults
5who didn’t have the time or interest. The focus shifted to the whole child concept: the physical, emotional and academic welfare of the children in our care.
Now, the Trump administration, in its infinite wisdom, wants the teaching profession to provide armed protection against shooters, instead of providing strict gun regulations which just might eliminate most of the threat. And the money just keeps rolling in from the NRA, Russians and gun manufacturers.
Thank god I retired!
My guess is that it’s a plan to force privatization- and maybe some union busting.
6When it comes to bad ideas, snacilbupeR are far worse than a dog with a bone. When commanded to “release” most often a dog will release a bone. We could rehash the 100+ ideas why arming classroom teachers is a bad idea. Or, we could simply accept why law enforcement thinks it is a bad idea. In an active shooter situation, there’s generally one sometimes two morons with guns which LE is expected to disarm. So yeah let’s add to the confusion by adding a few teachers in the crossfire and play guessing games of ‘who is shooting whom.’ SnacilbupeR. They have a wolverine bite on st00pid.
7Sorry, he needs the Airborne to gear up for the Space Cadets or whatever it is.
8Hey Linda, has you or anyone you’ve talked to realized he’s essentially proposing militarizing space?
There’s a treaty on that he’d better break before he does that.
9Jefe, I haven’t always quite agreed with you, but your last several posts have been excellent.
And thanks for keeping the lights on so JJ can rest and recuperate this week.
10Charles R Phillips – that’s exactly what I was referring to. Ronald Reagan proposed a star wars kind of protection, but he had the advantage of having Alzheimers.
11there is a very, very small piece in the WaPo this AM written by a very young teenager regarding school safety. For the first time in her life, she visited a suburban school with metal detectors at all the entrances. She was blown away. Her urban school has nothing at all like this and she wants it and wonders why it isn’t already installed. I thought all schools had these gadgets. Could it be that school safety is actually a very selective matter?
12I want to be an armed guard over pres Animal Shithole. I’ll put him in a tiny cage, just to keep him safe, of course.
