Stay the Hell Home

March 25, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

This is one of those stories that is by subscription only, but I managed to steal you the good parts.  It says to stay home.

It explains a possible reason why New York has 10 times the number of cases that New York does.

San Francisco Chronicle: “New York’s coronavirus outbreak has violently erupted over the past few days, and the state is now driving the national epidemic — while on the West Coast, public health experts are wondering if an early and aggressive response saved California from a similar fate.”

“California reported some of the earliest coronavirus cases in the United States in late January. And in the first week of March, California and New York were neck and neck on cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. But over the past week, New York case counts have doubled every few days, and the state now has 10 times the cases California does: 25,000 to 2,500.”

So the lesson here is:  Let’s pack those pews on Easter Sunday, y’all!

@Ralph #1: Trump could encourage all his supporters to go to church on Easter, sit in crowded pews, hug and shake hands with the rest of the crowd – and lose lots of them.

It was the San Francisco Chronicle, so will cut them a modicum of slack. Had it been the LA Times would recommend not crowing just yet. Not to ‘defend’ NY, but they were screwed when the ***king moron* had his first novel coronavirus briefing and failed to close international airports. Dawg knows what those with diplomatic immunity were doing before Governor Cuomo stepped up to do Donnie’s* job.

Not giving NY a “pass,” but what about red states like WVa without any airports of size nor population density who per capita are about to outdistance NY and CA in COVID-19 cases? Western states should guard our borders against vehicle traffic from red states. NV would be proud to ride point for CA, OR and WA. If there is equipment to spare, we’ll be happy to send it to NY.

  7. the pictures of the sardine-packing on the NYC subway are pretty incredible

on a similar note – some are attributing the hotspot in Italy to a jam-packed soccer game

sure am looking forward to a full house at Lakewood at Easter

  8. So angry.
New biden ad fetishizes the failure of addled ronnie, perjurer poppa and the twit in an attempt to show how demented donnie is a failure.
That is like praising the 80’s red sox to take down the 80’s Cubs.
Praising past failures that created demented donnie, and in addled ronnie’s and the twit’s cases equally stupid and irresponsible actions, in an attempt to criticize the addled one is a case of cognizant dissonance.
If fetishizing past and present thuglicans, other than just the head of the snake, is almost a guareentee that biden will lose.
Just as Hillary, who I voted for, totally lived down to my lowest expectations by publicly going to kiss the ring of a war criminal ( kissinger) as soon as she wa nominiated so does it appear that joes campaign would rather reinforce thuglican ignorance and embrace of failure rather then challenge the bigotry, ignorance and incompetence that they represent.
Gee and I wonder why he hs trouble getting any enthusiastic support?
His campaign seems to prefer to insult the D base while engaging with thuglican fetishes.
It appears the only thing he has going for him is that he is not demented donnie.
    Didn’t work for Hillary.

Edit: A recipe for disaster’: The Senate’s plan to skip town during a pandemic denounced as ‘dangerous’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was among a number of progressives angered by news Wednesday that the Senate intends to take a long recess—reportedly until April 20—while the coronavirus crisis roils the country and threatens the lives and economic well-being of millions of Americans. “This is completely dangerous and unacceptable,” the freshmen Democrat from New York tweeted.

“We have a crisis of leadership in this country,” said Sarsour. “They are giving up and we are not even at peak yet with the virus. Leaving the America people out to dry.”
The news of the Senate’s intention to break for almost a month during the ongoing crisis comes as the upper chamber prepares to vote on a $2 trillion legislative package that critics say is a giveaway to the rich and large corporations. Because the Senate has no remote voting procedures in place, there will be no further legislative action to relieve the American people from the crisis until April 20 and the Senate bill will have to be voted on in the House. Crooked Media editor-in-chief Brian Beutler noted how Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is using the recess as a tool in a game of congressional chicken.

“House could have jammed the Senate with a genuinely good bill,” tweeted Beutler. “Instead it’s happening the other way around. And there are still no remote voting procedures in place.”

  11. No doubt California’s early response helped. And I suspect that New York get more air travelers from Europe than anywhere else. Another factor is that central NYC is much denser in population than LA. (Across the metro areas, they are about the same, but central New York is different.)

  14. #5 re companies deferring their matching social security payments: as long as this is a deferment only (with a strict deadline for paying) I think this is ok. I work for a very small company (6 employees) and business is down. Customers are worried about their own circumstances and don’t want to place orders. Some of our work includes in person work which our state has disallowed since it’s not considered essential. Protecting cash outflow is important so employees can be paid. If vendors are willing to make allowances and let us defer payment until things are more certain, that helps immensely. Knowing when businesses can get $ from the feds will help most.

    14
  15. To clarify re the in person work I mentioned above. We can’t guarantee safe distancing and no one involved wants to chance it. It’s not just the state orders.
