Somebody Hand Me a Chainsaw. I Can’t Cut Through This Irony With Just a Knife.
Remember Mary Brown, the 56 year old woman in Florida who owned an auto-repair shop? Remember how the GOP used her to become the lead plaintiff challenging President Obama’s healthcare law on the basis that it required people to get health insurance?
Boy howdy, Mary Brown hated the fact that she had to have health insurance. She stomped and hollered that she, by gawd, didn’t need no danged insurancing, and the government had no right to tell she that she did.
Mary Brown and her husband just filed for bankruptcy.
But court records reveal that Brown and her husband filed for bankruptcy last fall with $4,500 in unpaid medical bills. Those bills could change Brown from a symbol of proud independence into an example of exactly the problem the healthcare law was intended to address.
Now, the Supremes are going to hear the case later this month with Proud Mary Brown standing firm that she does not need health insurance.
Now, I have a question. Proud Mary is a Republican, the party that claims to be all about personal responsibility and self reliance. Who does she think is going to have to pay for her medical bills? Mitt Romney? The lottery? Magic Jesus?
Those bills will be paid by you and me. Now, I am pretty darn certain that Mary hasn’t learned that no man is an island. I am also pretty darned sure that she claims all this is Obama’s fault.
It’s gotta be Obama’s fault. You know, I’ve been pondering something. If we secretly change the name of Obamacare to Limbaughcare, all the Republicans would jump on that horse in a New York minute. Hell, it’s worth a try.
Thanks to Carl for the heads-up.
