So There It Is

Remember the $215,000 that the North Carolina Republican Party gave to Cambridge Analytica?

Well, we think we figured out how they spent it.  Beating Democratic Senator Kay Hagan.

Harnessing our unique data-rich voter file, we were able to accurately predict partisanship, turnout, issue importance and build psychographic profiles for all voters in North Carolina. We produced clusters of voters based on the modeled data to maximize campaign impact, which enabled the creation of tailored messages directed at those audiences.

CA Political worked successfully with various organizations key to the success of Thom Tillis’ campaign. Thom Tillis won against Kay Hagan by two points, despite Nate Silver and the Washington Post predicting otherwise.

And then they strut about it. Like Trump, they have no shame.

  1. Lie.
    Cheat.
    Steal.

Those are the attributes the Repub.s place upon Democrats that run against them. Methinks it be projection…

  2. It seems that Big data has arrived in politics in a big way. Consolidators like Cambridge Analytics will continue to buy data from multiple sources, figure out accurate ways to deal with duplications, and turn that data into “tailored messages” for the electorate. Dems will have to utilize this new way of interacting with voters or be left behind. Clearly the Drumpf campaign embraced big data and used it in part to push an obviously unqualified candidate to a win.

  3. The weaponization of data has proved to be a frightening force which caught the Dems totally unaware and unprepared to fight it. Now that we are aware, how do we prevent it from causing chaos in the future, and not just in the political arena?
It used to be called propraganda, but has become so much more.

Whistleblower Wylie today on CNN — “Rudy Giuliani’s law firm actually sent us a memo to Steve Bannon, Rebekah Mercer and Alexander Nix that actually outlined the fact that, in the United States, you can’t run campaigns with foreign citizens who are not permanent residents.” — “And I have the memo to prove it.”

“The company was warned that Alexander Nix should recuse himself of substantive management duties in the company as CEO and they are also warned that the company shouldn’t be sending foreign citizens to go and run American campaigns,” Wylie said. “But that was completely disregarded.”

  5. Opinionated Hussy says:

Our county went for Hagan, but we work our tails off every election to elect dems. And, yes, I did see the result of this kind of information when people who had Hagan bumper stickers on their cars peeled them off and put Tillis stickers on because they heard she was ‘anti-Christian’. Kay taught Sunday school at her church, but she was tarred as ‘anti-Christian’. They have no shame.

  6. CA is right up there with Big Brother in that they have so damn much data in their bases. Britain is taking a very I’m view of them. May it please Her Majesty to knock flat!
