So, Now You Tell Us
In a case of Oh Damn, A Day Late and a Dollar Short, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor is having a long overdue attack of damned if I know.
Okay, so after being the fifth vote to hand George W Bush the Presidency, Justice O’Connor thinks maybe, just maybe, the high court should not have taken the case.
Looking back, O’Connor said, she isn’t sure the high court should have taken Bush v. Gore.
“It took the case and decided it at a time when it was still a big election issue,” O’Connor said during a talk Friday with the Tribune editorial board. “Maybe the court should have said, ‘We’re not going to take it, goodbye.’”
No shoot, Sherlock. She needs to pack her butt with gunpowder and fire herself on up here with the rest of us.
Now I know she’s doing her mea culpa tour, but I just ain’t buying her snot slobbering apology.
“Obviously the court did reach a decision and thought it had to reach a decision,” she said. “It turned out the election authorities in Florida hadn’t done a real good job there and kind of messed it up. And probably the Supreme Court added to the problem at the end of the day.“
Yeah, Honey, you and Katherine Harris made quite a team. Hooter toters everywhere still moan in shame at the mention of those two names. Katherine Harris siding with the Mary Kay Cosmetics lady and you siding with Scalia. Curses on both of you.
My dear new BFF: You have restored my faith. I am a native Texan (raised in Pecos) but have not lived there since I graduated from TWU in 1959. That makes me 75, in case you are like me in calculating complicated math problems. I love my home state, but in a way that is sort of like continuing to love your crazy, drunk Uncle Homer who can & does embarrass the fire out of you so that you just hate to show up anywhere within 50 miles of him.
1Until I stumbled upon your web site, I thought the entire state had been issued blinders & were required to wear them 24/7, and that the only TV station allowed was Fox “Fair & Balanced” News.
Please keep writing so that I can have a little bright Lone Star view. And could you clone yourself multiple times?
Thanks so much.
P.S. Was Molly Ivins your Mama?
She didn’t impress me when she was on the high court, and impresses me even less now that she is not there.
2Is O’Connor running for office or something?
3Hey, Scottybeamer (love that moniker btw), it’s my opinion she is just triing to seel her book and maybe salve her conscience. However, she is giving one of those “not quite an apology” apologies that Republicans seem to havve made into a fine art.
I remember when she was regarded as a moderate Republican (I think they are all extinct now – she certainly blasted that image with the Bush case). I always thought she, like Justice Kennedy now, just enjoyed the attention of being the “swing” vote.
4Justice O’Connor was right about a few things:
5(a) The Court never should have taken the case.
(b) The decision polarized the country.
(c) The SCOTUS does have (next to Congress) the most awful reputation …… ever. Nobody believes they “administer” justice. Most folks believe they play politics.
She’s on a book tour and has made the rounds of the talk shows to sell her s**t. The damage done to this country and the world by that horrendous decision allowing Bush to drive us into the ground is unforgivable. And we do notice, she’s not actually apologizing.
6Now are we all supposed to be good christians and forgive her?
7—–“and probably the Court added to the problem etc”. A weak, feeble and really puny mea culpa.
8Just a little late to be sorry Sandra. Lotta folks died because you raised you hand.
Take it to the troops that went to two wars six or eight times because you raised your hand and tell them how you really feel. Sure they’ll be in a forgiving mood
You sound like Robert McNamara revisited. He was sorry too.
Thanks anyway. Now sit down and shut up
9Well wish she had figured this out way back when. Not sure if this is the right place to add this link but there is a post at dailykos about the GOP Thank W campaign. The thank you notes bring tears to one’s eyes … laughter and grief.

Bush v. Gore, when every states’s-righter on the Supreme Court voted to take away the constitutional right of Florida to determine its own elections.
Note that the Florida Supreme Court at that time was mostly Dem-appointed, so of course they couldn’t be allowed to do the job.
11Thank you, ks……:)
12That dam ole tart…bet Thomas is getting constipated from her comments. Like Mama said “woulda, coulda, shoulda ain’t gonna save a whippin'”…and the ole tart needs a good one.
