Sneaking Through the Back Door

Forgive me if you’ve seen this one before, but I don’t recall it being mentioned around here. Apparently, in addition to making abortions illegal after six weeks it will also be illegal to help someone obtain an abortion after that time period.

As regular readers know (and have told me repeatedly) I have hit the religion very hard the last couple of days. So, I’m looking at this from another angle. One of the things they taught us in political science and history was the notion that over the course of a generation the political parties will often switch positions almost entirely.

It’s one of the hallmarks of conservatism to argue that they were the party for civil rights. In a sense it’s true if you are strictly looking at labels, but the thought behind the label is what matters. Conservatives have been against civil rights from the very beginning. In the beginning, they just called themselves Democrats.

Classical conservatives believe in keeping the government out of our bedrooms, personal lives, and life choices. The Republican party abandoned that a long time ago. Instead they want to stay out of your pocketbook but govern your body. It’s just a little ironic that the best argument against conservatives on this issue comes from themselves. At least it comes from what they used to believe.

Of course, Texans aren’t the only ones passing questionable laws. It seems Tennessee is trying to limit access to all vaccines for children. Somehow, the mental gymnastics needed to consider these laws is staggering. They are still overly concerned about bathrooms it seems.

This is all very simple to me. You believe in freedom or you don’t. You regulate activities where other people can get hurt and you allow those other activities to slide. When you are more concerned about where someone goes to the bathroom than what they could possibly do with a gun there is something seriously wrong. When conservative values go out the window then what values do conservatives have left?

Be social and share!

To answer your question “When conservative values go out the window then what values do conservatives have left”- the big lies. This includes voter fraud, vaccines, planned parenthood and several other topics. We don’t consider their addiction to the lies as “values”, but they do and really, that’s all they have left.

  2. Well folks, anybody who hasn’t heard of Jasmine Crockett is about to. She’s one the Texas House Dem’s who went to D.C., and she’s been interviewed a lot since then.
    She’s been awesome.
She just called Texas Repugnantcans terrorists.
    On MSNBC.
    Live.
Her reasoning was that they want to terrorize with the new unlicensed carry law, trying to make Texas the Old West.
I’m paraphrasing some, but not much.
    It was fantastic.
I imagine the Twitterverse is exploding.

  3. Nick, I don’t know where you’ve been but the fact that simply driving some one to a doctor’s appointment, even if you don’t know it is for an abortion, can get you jailed under that law. Furthermore, anyone from anywhere can accuse of aiding an abortion without any evidence. Basically, this makes it dangerous to help a woman of child bearing age get medical attention. It scares me how this part of the law is likely to jail innocent people since it is usually impossible to prove a negative (I didn’t know, for example). We’re in for a rough ride.

  4. The Founding Fathers didn’t write anything into the Constitution about bathroom designations. America! Land of the free! We should ask Republican legislators who propose these restrictions, WWBFD*?

“The first regulation requiring separate toilet facilities for men and women was passed in 1887…”

    * What would Ben Franklin do?

  5. “what values do conservatives have left?”
    White supremacy. Pure and simple.

The Republicans value power and money. That’s all. Anything else they claim to believe is a lie to trick people into giving them more money and more power.

Perhaps it is beyond time to move on from descriptors like “conservative values” and “conservatives.” (And continuing to think in terms of Liberals vs Conservatives.) Instead, now we have a Democratic Party and an power-hungry Authoritarian Party. (Democracy vs Autocracy)

“Every American, every corporation, the news media and social platforms need to understand there are no longer two functioning political parties. Straddling between them is failing to understand the threat of an authoritarian movement that seeks to take power by any means.”

  9. Then support payments should start at six weeks.

  10. Conservatives have always really had only one value and it shows them for what they are — “property values”.

  12. Conservatism hasn’t changed. It was sadism then and it is sadism now. What has changed is the environment and therefore some of the ways in which sadism manifests.

Slow day here at the WMDBS. This info about Trumpf being in putin’s control and Russian efforts to elect him is kind of old news. Everything pointed to that and has been supported by the intel and the mueller report. I’d like to believe the pee tapes are going to come out and be verified but I’m not holding my breath. I don’t doubt trumpf did what’s purported, but it’s wishful thinking that it will be verified. I keep hoping.
