Saying Aye to Traitors’ War Memorial
Democrats who live in congressional districts represented by those of the GOP ilk may now discover whether their Congressman voted for the Clyde Amendment to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act which would require that The Confederate Memorial be reinstated at the Arlington National Cemetery. The memorial, erected in 1914, was finally dismantled last December. Rep Andrew Clyde (R GA-9), obviously put off by the whole Confederates as Traitors paradigm, proposed the amendment, which failed to pass, but got 192 Aye votes from the GOP.
Newsweek provides the list of Aye votes.
(And yes, Ken Calvert (R CA-41), the guy who represents me, is on the list). Guess that means another donation to the Will Rollins For Congress Campaign.
See where Troy Nehls is having a cow about his CIB being revoked? Bad enough when his sheriff uniform made him look like a generalissimo from some 3rd world dictatorship.
1This is how deep into MAGAland these folks are. My Congressmen (TX-38) Wesley Hunt, a Black man, voted with his GOP cult.
2After the RNC convention of 1992, as a gay man, I have always wondered how the Log Cabin Republicans could support their fellow Republicans who have time after time told us all who they are with their votes. Maybe once I find the answer to that question, I will know why people of color can support a party that cares not for them and even try to erase their travails from history.
3“What Confederate tradition are you upholding? Is it slavery? Rape? Kidnap? Jim Crow? Lynching? Racial oppression? Or all of the above? What exactly is the Confederate tradition that extreme [Make America Great Again] Republicans in 2024 are upholding?”
—Soon-to-be-Speaker Hakeem Jeffries
4I had to read the Newsweek article to understand what I was looking at, with the soldier kissing the baby goodbye and the apparent slave behind him leaving for war (to fight to uphold slavery?!?) I initially thought the monument was an acknowledgment of the children born of the rape of black women, but it seems not.
5I found the original photo and Ive gptta say, where is the so-called “romance” in tht sculpture? Hakeem was spot on!
6So is Elise Stefanik’s name.
7She is a sniveling, moral coward.
Why not attach this disgraceful object to the Sedition Monument at Stone Mountain, Georgia? Arlington is for people who fought FOR the United States.
8I have less issues with a memorial to the common GI Joe Johnny Reb than I do with the Glorification of the rat ba*****ts officers that broke their oath, deserted, and led the Johnnies into treason. Saint R. E. Lee tops my list of the Rats. My family lost a 1/2 dozen sons and brothers on a Very Bloody 4th of July.
