San Antonio

June 16, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I am in San Antonio today for the Texas Democratic Party State Convention.

Donald Trump is also in San Antonio today.  I think he’s here to demand to see the birth certificate for our party chairman, Judge Gilberto Hinojosa.

We meet to work on the platform and hold a State Democratic Executive Committee Meeting today and the big convention with thousands of Texas Democrats starts tomorrow.

Wish us luck in selecting our party leaders.  I am term limited off my SDEC seat this election so that means I’ll have more free time to raise holy hell.

I’ll update you when I can and DaChipster has promised to kick  in when he can.

I am so damn proud of our Democratic Senators for refusing to sit down and shut up!

Be social and share!

Have a good time, raise a lot of Hell–and a few eye brows–and come on back and tell us ALL about it!

    Cowgrl up, let’er buck!

  2. Have fun kids, eat some BBQ for us and raise some Cain!

With apologies to members of the Salon I’m hijacking this tread, under normal circumstances I’d send it Susan’s way but she’s busy and I don’t think she’ll mind.

If you’re like I am you’ve been feeling a variety of emotions regarding the Orlando shooting, anger that this can happen again, sadness over the loss of so many lives, the list goes on. May I humbly suggest a way to channel your anger?

The article below lists the names and phone numbers of the top 20 recipients of cash from the NRA, I’m sad and ashamed that 2 of them are from Missouri. Call them, email them write them, Tweet at them, do whatever works for you but let them know that at the very least they could represent your interests rather than those of the leadership of the NRA.

Bottom Line: It is utterly ridiculous that a person on the terrorist watch list can go out and pick up an AR15, yet 200 people on the terrorist watch list in EACH of the last 3 years have done so. Changing that provision alone should be a no- brainer. Keep it short keep it simple but let them know. No fly – no guns!

Don’t just be angry change things.

    Great idea, Deb.

Although I have a problem with the no-fly list in general, never mind as a list to use to limit anyone’s rights. The terrorist watch list might be better, I don’t know. The no-fly list is a disorganized mess.

  4. What is it with old white guys and Hawaiian shirts? My dad, RIP, had a huge collection of them and had never even been to Hawaii. He wore them every where all the time. I only saw him twice without one on and that was at weddings for his kids. I hardly recognized him!

  5. As a long time resident of Hawaii, I have to say, those are some fine looking Hawaiian shirts. Even Thomas Magnum P.I. didn’t always look so good.

  6. Have fun, scream and howl, and raise hell.

  7. Susan on the Left Coast says:

Raise extra loud hell, Juanita, in honor of the liberal, Jo Cox, who was murdered today during a public appearance at a library in England. She was a young rising star as a Member of Parliament.

  8. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Great picture of two of Texas’ finest gentlemen sporting the Hawaiian shirts! Have a great time everyone and let Glen handle the camera to take a picture of Texas’ Leading Lady with Bubba.

  9. I see that Don Young is on that list, and I can guarantee you that he could not care less how many letters he gets. He considers himself untouchable, and unfortunately, time has pretty much proven him right.

  10. Old Mayfly says:

Ginny 51, at the close of WWII a lot of American men were very tired of khaki. It was time to relax and live a little and that’s when I began to see Hawaiian shirts.

Thanks for the link, Deb. I called Tim Murphy’s office and told them no fly, no buy and also to support an assault weapons ban.
He is in the top 10 recipients of NRA $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

    11
  12. Knock yourself out, JJ! Have fun and then some!

    12
  13. Have fun! My young shirt-tail cousin, Drew Corbitt, a good liberal from somewhere out northeast TX, is there, hoping to become rep for SDEC 1 (I hope I have this right.) I have so much hope for the upcoming generation!!

    13
  14. Can’t go for it Deb. It’s a closed list, and that’s a violation of the right to know your accuser, privacy and good sense.

Stick with the gunshow requirement for ID and three-day wait. No loopholes! Buy a gun, go on record.

    14
  15. Sam in San Antonio says:

Semi-automatic rifle manufacturing ban, tax on ammunition, $100 to transfer a used weapon, $500 for a semi-automatic, restrict gun stores in a 1 mile radius of churches and schools (a strip club is more beneficial to society than a gun dealer), mandatory training for anyone buying a firearm, vote out anyone from the GOP.

  16. Rastybob says:

Have fun. While here in Backwater Arizona.—The news is that
Jeff Flake [Sen R AZ.] Who I one time said, that his name was every thing you needed to know about him. Has a little backbone and a few morals. Who knew?

While Mc Cain [Sen R AZ ] rolls over for Trump like a little Punk.
Him and Our douche bag Gov. should get Tee Shirts that read “PUNK for TRUMP” on them.
Make a good bumper sticker. You Think. As for Mc Cain He should be gone this cycle.
Look forward to a Demo. Women in his office very soon.

  17. Gramiam says:

Thank you for the plug, Rastybob! This 51 year member of the Democratic Party is working for Ann Kirkpatrick on the phones and helping to register new voters before our Primary in August. Yes, for those who pay attention, Arizona has a Presidential Preference Primary in March and another one in August for Federal and State House and Senate races. With luck, I won’t even get to vote in the General Election for Ann against John McCain. He is being primaried by a Woman Tea Party candidate, and is not faring well. Don’t worry Democrats! Ann can take her!!!

    17
  18. Rastybob says:

Gramiam— I hope you are right.

  19. Marge Wood says:

Well, Paul Ryan said the House can’t vote on the gun bill(s). Moving along at a snail’s pace.

    19
  20. Marge Wood says:

Y’all in San Antonio please sign the petition to get the climate change plank in the platform. Thank you.

    20
  21. Marge, for what it’s worth, it was hotter in Greenland today than it was in NYC. I figure that a good argument for a climate change plank
