Republicans have an “Awakenings” Moment

June 04, 2019 By: El Jefe Category: Trump

Just like in the Robin Williams’ movie, Awakenings, comatose patients in the Senate came out of their Trumpist comas long enough to speak out against Trump’s latest power grab that would destroy hundreds of billions of dollars of economic growth for no good reason.  His idiotic tariff against Mexican imports over illegal immigration is one of Stephen Miller’s (Trump’s resident white supremacist) worst yet, so bad, in fact, that the comatose have risen to finally say no.  It will be interesting now if Trump is dumb enough to push it to a vote.

I’m popping popcorn and pulling a few beers out of the fridge for this one.

Be social and share!

OMG, a Mexican standoff!! Wonder if Slump knows what those are? We are hearings more groanings and creakings from the Senate while their Orange headed stepchild runs farther from the backyard.

The disaster aid package: GOProcrastinators reluctantly pass disaster aid package. 58 voted no.

Well into each life, a little rain must fall, a few crops must fail, a few hundred tornadoes touch down, a few hundred floods must drown, a few thousand Puerto Ricans must suffer and die.

“Some in our government refused to assist our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico who are still recovering from a 2017 hurricane. I’m pleased we’ve moved past that,” said House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, D-N.Y. “Because when disaster strikes, we shouldn’t let a ZIP code dictate our response.”

Yeah, about that zip code thingy…

The legislation is also being driven by Florida and Georgia lawmakers steaming with frustration over delays in delivering help to farmers, towns and military bases slammed by hurricanes last fall. Flooding in Iowa and Nebraska this spring added to the coalition behind the measure, which delivers much of its help to regions where Trump supporters dominate.

  2. As with Nixon & Watergate, Republicans are happy to look the other way when a situation doesn’t negatively impact them. Once their re-election probabilities or investment portfolios are reduced – – well now, maybe something should be done.

  3. And like how the thugs refused to acknowledge the twit as one of theirs after his fall so will the demented one vanish from the thuglican history.

Unless the donor class has spoken, expect them to return to their regularly scheduled coma. Like the 3 who thought Boofie Kavanaugh being a sexual predator was a bad thing, then voted for him anyway.

Disaster aid to military bases in the south? Let them eat cake and wash it down with a piece of their already bloated budget.

  5. So, oh look, a couple of Republicans got up on their hind legs and spoke against something that Donnie or Mitch wanted.

Wait and see if the buggers actually have the guts and moral decency to VOTE against their Jabbas the Hutt. I’ve seen this show before and I know how it ends.

They’re just pulling a Susan Collins – they’ll express grave concern, and stop there.

  7. Rhea @ 5,

No guts and no balls. Mitch has those locked up in his desk drawer.

The GOP won’t do anything until they see that voters have turned against them or Rump has irreparably damaged the party and is no longer a useful idiot to them. Then they’ll react one of two ways:

    1. They leave, rather than losing their own re-election, citing their need to spend more time with family, yada, yada.

    2. As a unified group finally condemn Rump.

Of course, ones like Ol’Scratch and Panty boy Graham will just sink in the swamp. A few more names could be added here….

“I ‘hope’ it (the tariff) doesn’t ‘happen’, I heard Old Scratch say in an interview. That’s the same mealy mouthed crapola that Trump suggests when he claims he “hopes not”, as if unthinking partisan legislation just occurs by itself. As usual, no matter what the avalanche of dreadful actions, the public outcry and the savvy analyses from experts will be ignored. There is a firestorm in my own town after construction of a terrible, ugly, in your face combination carwash/Chick Fil A oin the main street was begun. It was evident that the town council members should have requested an actual scale model rather than depend on an elevation drawing that was misleading. That, in microcosm is what’s happening in our government. Trust but Verify still means something.
