Republican Path to Enlightenment: Kill All The Doctors
It’s like somebody popped the balloon and the Republican Party has been flying around the room backwards making really offensive sounds for a week now.
Now we have a Republican sheriff candidate in New Hampshire.
When asked what he would do if he saw a doctor performing a perfectly legal abortion, Frank Szabo had a handy answer.
“I would respond specifically by saying that if someone is under threat, a full-grown human being, if they’re under threat, what should the sheriff do? Everything in their power to prevent them from being harmed,” he said.
When pressed about what he would do if he learned that a doctor was about to perform an elective abortion, Szabo replied he would do what it took to prevent that from happening.
“Absolutely,” he said. “Well, I would hope that it wouldn’t come to that, as with any situation where someone is in danger, but again, specifically talking about elective abortions and late-term abortions, that is an act that needs to be stopped.”
Holy crap. That means he’s going to go six-shooting his way into an abortion clinic and kill a doctor for doing something legal. The next question just has to be, “And you have the authority to do this six shooting under the law of ….”
Szabo maintains that the county sheriff is a position that doesn’t answer to any other public official.
So, Thelma is packing my bags right now because I’m gonna move to New Hampshire and run for sheriff. I’ve always wanted to be God, by gawd.
However, Szabo sobered up the next day and said he was sorry. “In making comments yesterday, I let my passionate stance against abortion get the better of me,” he drooled.
Or, maybe he was sober when he made the statement and drunk when he made the apology. That’s a voting booth crap shoot if I ever saw one.
Well, Szabo, in operating as a law unto himself, has the precedent of one of Shakespeare’s characters (Henry VI, Part 2) who is plotting a rebellion to make himself king. The rebel states, “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” So, kill all the lawyers and taking out abortion providers becomes a simple matter. Hmm. Isn’t it the GOPers who are so down on trial lawyers? Hmmmm.
1He should run for sheriff in Lubbock County. The mayor’d love him.
2This guy fits right in!
Just out of curiosity, which do you think is most likely to happen?
Paul Ryan changes his mind, after heartfelt conversations with the sincere and steadfast Mitt Romney, and has had a genuine change of heart and now believes that a woman who is a victim of rape or incest, or whose life is in danger can now have an abortion. Therefore we should all just relax and stop worrying about our right to control our own body.
Or
Mitt Romney, who has never met a principle he could not compromise, is influenced by Paul Ryan, a guy whose opinions are so entrenched that he will not change them even in the face of science and the facts?
Damn the platforms, full speed ahead!
Just askin….
3Szabo grounded his right to shoot doctors on a distinction between something being legal as opposed to being lawful. According to this lunatic, slavery was never lawful under the constitution, proving that history is another subject he is not competent to address. Perhaps New Hampshire, Texas, Arizona, etc., etc. should make the job of village idiot an elected position, giving bozos an opportunity to run for office based upon their qualifications.
4This idiot is backing off from these stupid comments http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/08/frank_szabo_abortion_apology.php?ref=fpb
The Hillsborough County, N.H., candidate apologized for comments he made to local news outlets on Wednesday when he was pressed about how far he would go for his anti-abortion views.
“What I said was inexcusable, and as sheriff, I would not use lethal force against an abortion doctor,” Szabo said in a written statement to the Bedford Patch. He said he regretted and retracted the comments.
With the apology, Szabo ignored calls to drop out of the race, saying he hoped voters would give him another chance. He also said he still believes there is a difference between “lawful” actions and “legal” ones. Abortion, he said, falls into one category and not the other.
5I’m still stuck on “what he would do if he saw a doctor performing a perfectly legal abortion?” And just how is it he would happen upon such an event? Reading the full quote, it is another frightening example from yet another inarticulate and grossly ill-educated individual who has been, or likely will be, elected to office. The image of a pig on it’s rear trotters, sashaying around the barn yard, burns in my mind. Right now the pigs are balancing tea cups while trotting about, but if enough of them get in, …. well, read the book again if you don’t remember it. Need a hint? Very unbalanced people are being elected by other unbalanced people, and giving them power. Soon they believe their own fiction.
6killer first paragraph, JJ. Crack me up!
7If Frank Szabo had stayed awake in his 20th century history class, he might have remembered this quote from the Vietnam War, “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.” Your solution Frank, becomes the problem.
8Mr. Szabo thinks slavery isn’t in the Constitution (he was apparently absent the day that whole 3/5ths of a person bit was discussed), thinks the county sheriff answers to no one, and further believes he can set up his own judicial system. Where did he get this deep understanding of the law?
“Szabo said he doesn’t have any background in law enforcement, but he said his business background gives him the experience to run for the position of sheriff.”
What kind of business? Per his candidate website:
“Having attained a high level of expertise in Financial Management and Health Care Administration, most of Frank’s skills were developed while working in the business sector. He owned and operated a successful limousine service; which he started in 1987 and sold in 2000.”
9Szabo is a Sovereign Citizen. If he wins, will he be shooting his own deputies?
10I love the way these guys think a business background (whether it’s killing cockroaches for fun and profit, or driving people around in fancy cars, or destroying companies other people built up) is sufficient background for anything else from science to law enforcement.
A business background (provided you’re solvent at the end of 10 years and your employees aren’t planning to lynch you) prepares you to, you know, run that business. Not any business. That business. As for claiming a “high level of expertise in financial management and health care administration”….I say prove it. Show me the figures. Let’s see your paperwork and compare it to the other guys’ paperwork.
These people. Geez. And they have the nerve to talk about “nails ladies.”
11Notice that most stupid statements are preceded by the words “A Republican candidate said…..”
12Is it possible that this moronic sequence of spray effluent out of his mouth and its subsequent retraction, sort of, might get him more votes?
The polarization is beyond my comprehension.
13I keep asking around – has the War of the Blue Beanies started yet in Lubbock? Wondering why Mitt and GOP did NOT go visit Judge Head – when you go to Hobbs America, NM (known for lots of Walmart bags blowing on weeds in the wind) and lots of UE, poverty, one potash mine and actually is the LITERAL Middle of Nowhere, they fly to Lubbock.
Here’s my tweet regarding the GOP’s idiocy and MSM’s lack of reporting:
NEWS: There is no Pro-Life only CHOICE & ANTI-CHOICE – sick of the #ABORTIONLIES #WOW @RNC @GOP
14OT, but wouldn’t outside a PP clinic be a great place to set up a voter’s registration drive? Just to get the word out that the clinic will probably be closed soon unless the Republicans are voted out?
15If he had any brains at all he would know that late term abortions are used when the fetus is DEAD and there is a need to save they mother because the dead fetus is killing/going to kill her–it’s a sad and terrible thing to have to go through, without deputy dawg coming to the rescue and killing everybody–to save his own sense of morality or sumpthin–@I don’t know, but I just don’t think that a “Well done, thou good and faithful servant,” is going to be waiting for most of these critters when they get to the other side of death’s door…I just wish I had a ringside seat— sigh, but I seriously doubt that I’m good enough person to be allowed that privilege…being pro-choice and all.
16Apparently Szabo is a devotee of the views of Arizona’s (and now, unfortunately for us locals, Fredericksburg, Texas’) own Sheriff Mack. Where in the Constitution does it give county sheriffs absolute power? Huh? Where?
17Anybody else notice what republicans are doing?
They are stating their intent to do something. If there is an uproar, they semi apologize. They are testing the water to see how much they can get away with.
Do you think this guy or Akin would have apologized for what they said if nobody questioned them?
No way.
Listen to what the republicans are saying, they are a crazy scary bunch.
18So if I saw Szabo about to shoot someone would I be obligated to shoot Szabo first in order to prevent someone from being harmed?
19Sounds like a great public service Lynne!!!
20@ Myrna, “all Americans are created equal, but Republicans are more equal than others”? Orwell was a prophet.
