Reporting from the PNW

August 11, 2022 By: Fenway Fran Category: Uncategorized

I know JJ was really disappointed when I left Bitchin’ Betty and the Sequined Backhoes without a marimba player way back in 2007 for the bluer pastures of the Pacific Northwest. But I put all those skills I learned to good use here, including joining an actual marimba band. We even hatched a plot to meet up at the 2012 Convention in Charlotte as delegates, and succeeded in our quest. Anyone who has attempted delegate status knows this is not easy! All my activism paid off in a (surprise to me) Governor’s appointment to the Columbia River Gorge Commission. The CRG is a National Scenic Area. I live smack in the middle of it. But for the next 8 years, I had to kind of back off on my political activities to be one of 13 Commissioners from 2 states, 6 counties and 1 federal agency driving policy and land use for the NSA. Being 2 term limited, I am now free to blab away as I wish. So from time to time I might just grab an open chair at the WMDBS and let y’all know what’s happening here in my neck of the woods, White Salmon (purple), Klickitat County (red), Washington State (blue, baby, blue). We have a few exciting things going on that have made national news, though your news back in Texas is much more interesting/disturbing. I can’t compete with that. So stay tuned for stories about a couple of CD races (I get redistricted back and forth between them) where the two incumbent Rs voted to impeach TFG and got primaried by outrageous cultists. Maybe a story about our problem ‘constitutional’ sheriff, who also likes the national spotlight and is up for reelection. And whatever else I can scare up, maybe even what the heck is the front office doing to my Red Sox? With that, I’m getting to work on the CD3 race, because the incumbent just conceded to a Trump backed crazy.

Be social and share!

  1. Welcome, Fran! Any friend of JJ’s is a friend of mine.

  2. Looking forward to your perspective Fenway Fran. I’m across the river in blue Oregon from southwest Washington state’s Jaime Herrara-Beutler (R – voted to impeach tfg) vs Joe Kent (R – tfg bum boy). Herrara-Beutler conceded an upset election to Kent. Devil you know always preferred to Devil you don’t.

  3. Hi Fran! I live in Pullman, and am happy to see you here, as I read this blog all the time. JJ is a classic.
While you are at it, you might look into Cathy McMorris Rodgers and find out why we can’t get rid of her; I have been trying for years.
    Thanks for writing.

  4. Steve from Beaverton says:

Welcome. Fellow NWerner here from Beaverton. You know, home of Phil Night’s kingdom. He’s always trying to get his gazillions into politics and for most Oregonians, they know he’s the biggest contributor to independent candidate for Governor, Betsy huge glasses Johnson. I’m not exactly sure what his thinking is, but his money is highly likely to get a repugnantican elected governor. Maybe that’s his real motivation. I’m wearing out my mute button on her campaign advertising on teevee, constantly. Same with Christine Drazan, the repugnantican candidate who refuses to answer questions on whether she supports women’s right to choose or her views on the big lie and insurrection or magats breaking into the Oregon state capital. All I know is she’s gun(g) ho for all guns, ammunition.

  5. I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts, Fran. And, I can relate to your Sox issues; I’m a die-hard Nats fan myself. Lotsa weepin’, wailin’, and gnashin’ of teeth around these parts. That doesn’t even cover what Gov. A Butt is trying to do to my city.

    Welcome from downtown Sisters, OR

  7. Jere S Armen says:

I look forward to your dispatches from the PNW. My daughter lives between Leavenworth and Wenatchee, and I am growing quite fond of the state.
Too bad about those reasonable Republicans getting primaried out by crazies.

  8. Welcome back Fenway Fran. I remember your handle from the comments section long ago.

Curious about your Fenway connection. I went to college up east and could see the lights for Fenway Park from my dorm room. However, I haven’t seen a game at Fenway since I graduated >40 years ago.
