Push ‘Um Back! Push ‘Um Back! Push ‘Um Oh Holy Night Back!
Texas Cheerleaders 1; Trivialization of Jesus 17.
A Texas judge has given cheerleaders in Kountze, Texas, two more weeks to display Bible verses on banners while he decides if they are violating the First Amendment.
So, the football team will continue to enter the football field smashing through paper banners with scripture on them, like (seriously, these are the actual scriptures they use) “If God is for us, who can be against us, Romans 8:31.” Uh, the opposing team? Or, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens! Phil 4:13.” Except make a first down on 3rd and 14.
I know Jesus is so proud.
Thanks to Brian for the heads up.
Want to bet the judge would uphold school discipline on a player who didn’t want to run through a Christian banner?
After all Texas is the state where raped cheerleaders can be required to cheer their rapist.

1I find this terribly offensive and I consider myself a Christian
Mathew 6:5
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
I do not need their religion in My face.
2I gotta tell you, I think God has lost a step. The Kountze Lions are only 4-1 and, worse, ranked 582nd, not in the NATION, but just in Texas alone. That means there are 581 Texas football teams NOT smashing through bible verses who have a better team.
Their basketball team has had greater success, having won 3 state championships in the last 8 years, so maybe God still got game on the hardwood.
But this is my favorite accomplishment by a bunch of Kountze students, “The Kountze Robotics Team, The Dapper Dans, coached by Vic Miller, won the Lone Star Regional in Houston, Texas, and proceeded to go on to St. Louis to become one of the top 8 robotics teams in the world.”
No mention of God Graffiti in THAT win, bless their nerdy little hearts.
3This constant shove (and it started the day the constitution was signed) to turn us into a theocracy is one of the largest threats to this country staying whole IMO. The responses of the Christians that visit JJ are one of the few things that give me hope that these narrow minded, twisted xians will be shut down. I thank you all for speaking up.
4Maybe God resents being used as a tool by Kountze cheerleaders and is causing all those fumbles, missed tackles, etc. Go Robotics team!
5Here’s where I believe in trickle down theory. The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life research shows that our country is becoming less religious. http://www.pewforum.org/Unaffiliated/nones-on-the-rise.aspx
6My Daily Prayer: “Oh lord, let me live long enough to attend religion’s funeral.”
7Robotic is a good description of how these people practice their religion.
8This is disrespectful and it is the sort of thing that could get you killed in certain countries.
9Nice post, daChipster – thanks!
Also, I don’t quite understand the “optics” of ripping through a bible verse you claim to uphold. The team is literally ripping the verse into shreds. This is respect?
*shake head, sighs*
10People trying to turn God into a cheerleader would make Jesus puke.
11So, the Kountze cheerleaders are arguing that their football players are the holiest? How can anyone know that, and why would it matter on an athletic field anyway?
