Pssstttt …. Rick, The Disciples Were Unemployed
Customer Ralph sent me an interesting quote from Mega Evangelist Rick Warren.
When asked about President Obama saying that God commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves and that we should be concerned about seniors on a fixed income or students trying to go to college, Warren wrote new scripture —
Well certainly the Bible says we are to care about the poor. There’s over 2,000 versus in the Bible about the poor. And God says that those who care about the poor, God will care about them and God will bless them. But there’s a fundamental question on the meaning of “fairness.” Does fairness mean everybody makes the same amount of money? Or does fairness mean everybody gets the opportunity to make the same amount of money? I do not believe in wealth redistribution, I believe in wealth creation.
So Sweet Jesus mentions the poor 2,000 times, and how many times did he mention “fairness?” Exactly never. The only time fair is mentioned in the New Testament when not talking pretty girls of the weather is – ironically – this one.
Romans 16:18
17Now I beseech you, brethren, mark those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned, and avoid them.18For such as they serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Hey Rick, Saint Paul is talking to you.
You know, you’d think these teevee preachers would read the Bible before they say things that Sweet Jesus never said, intended, or even meant. Love your neighbor as yourself. Period. The end. No addendum. No political add ons.
Do you ever wonder if Rick warren knows he’s being hateful and sacrilegious, or if he is totally batcrap crazy? I wonder about those things.
Thanks to Ralph, who also wonders.
