Please Let It Be

Senator Tim Kaine says that he may have as many as a dozen Republican votes to support his attempt to “curtail President Trump’s ability to go to war with Iran, thanks to the reportedly disastrous security briefing Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave legislators last week.”

Kaine says it may be more. Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee thinks it’s more like 7 votes. We only need four, or more likely 5 because nobody wants to be left depending on Susan Collins, who has become Lucy with a football when it comes to doing the right thing.

By the way, after hearing about Pompeo’s secret briefing, I understand why there’s no press conferences any more.  There’s no Sean Spicer who’s willing to lie and take the fall for looking like a damnfool.  That’s what it has come to.

  1. I would go with Tim Kaine’s dozen. He’s very good at this. the seven number sounds like sour apples.

fwiw The Hill is reporting: “Probably about 10,” Kaine said when asked about the number of Republicans who could vote to rein in Trump’s powers. “There’s good discussion going on.”

Maybe it began as ten and has grown to 12, or that is already deducting Collins and another waffler (probably Mitt). Seeing will be believing. But ten or twelve, requires one believing there are that many Republicons not up to their lousy necks in kompromat.

It’s a nice thought, but it requires believing that any Republicon isn’t all about self preservation theater.

  3. Sen Kaine is a good man. I believe what he says. Whether his thug colleagues are blowing smoke in his direction remains to be seen.

Not disputing that Kaine is a “good” man nor implying that he’s a naïve man. Just working off the general Republicon track record for duplicity. The optimistic read would be that Senator Kaine thinks he can entice a few of them to do the right thing by this premature announcement. An appeal to their egos, because it’s all too obvious none of them are acquainted with shame.

  6. It is safe to never trust Susan Collins.
