It was a widespread CONSPIRACY to perform a coup d’etat against our democracy. The only coup d’etat attempt in US history, so far.
One of the most dangerous attacks on our nation ever, aided and abetted by our Russian enemies, and with many domestic perpetrators.

Guess who one of the chief conspirators was: Ted Cruz! He was in it up to his sorry sideburns.

WTEF aren’t these sonsabitches being investigated and prosecuted? Convictions should result in a firing squad termination.

Ted Cruz ‘must be denounced’ for role in Trump’s coup plot, according to his former campaign chair

So. A federal judge commenting on a civil case constitutes admissible evidence to indict on a criminal matter? I don’t think that’s how it works.

  4. Steve from Beaverton says:

What do AG Garland and the new DA in Manhattan have in common? For some reason they’re afraid to do the right thing with trumpf- file criminal charges. Teflon don’s untouchability continues. His threats of running again in 2024 will likely only further his ability to get away with financial fraud and conspiracy to commit an insurrection. Both are obvious to the majority of Americans and the Federal Judge quoted above. Can someone send Garland some cojones? Today’s buzzword.

Don A @3 … you say “A federal judge commenting on a civil case constitutes admissible evidence to indict on a criminal matter?”

You’ve got several tangles in that sentence.

    * “to indict on a criminal manner” — an indictment will be a choice of a prosecutor (or grand jury led by a prosecutor), based on investigation. The investigation will not consider a federal civil matter’s outcome and the judge’s statements in justifying the outcome… but may take some of the lines of argument and evidence used in that trial.

    * “Admissible evidence” is determined by a trial judge — at the trial, not at an indictment (or even before that, in determining if there is justification to issue a warrant for investigation or arrest).

    * This is not a federal judge “commenting” — it is part of the opinion, the explanation of why the judge ruled as he or she did. There is some presumptive weight to the judge’s findings of fact and application of the law.

  6. Steve from Beaverton says:

If you can get into the NYT article about the judges comments and ruling in the civil case, it certainly sounds like pretty clear direction for the Jan 6 House committee to ask for the DOJ to move for criminal charges against trumpf and others involved in the attempted coup.

  7. The Surly Professor says:

Steve from Beaverton: a generous take on the Manhatten DA is that the case will take lots of money and resources, since T**** now has a $100M fund to buy lots of lawyers, some of them more competent than Sidney Powell or Rudy G. So the DA figures that it can bankrupt his office and still lead to T**** prancing around freely. Instead he can use the resources to pursue thousands of shoplifters and jaywalkers and have a wonderful conviction ratio at election time.

The least generous take is that T**** has a $100M slush fund, which can buy lots of goodies for a DA on the take.

Somewhere in the middle: he can pursue the random street and subway violence against Asians in NYC and do some good. While pursuing the Putrid Orange Caligua will make most New Yorkers happy, the NYC police are solidly pro-T****. And they are a constituency that has a huge impact on the DA’s office and work.

As for Garland, although he was Obama’s candidate for the SC, 40 years ago he would have been regarded as near to far right wing and would not have even made AG. Keep in mind that McConnel passed on his appointment as AG, which says a lot about a person.

The Justice Department need more transparency. They are public servants and it is important that the public has trust in the system – not much these days. There doesn’t seem to be much accountability.
