Phew! That Was Close
If you haven’t heard, the “caravan” coming to rape and pillage our country isn’t near as frightening as it was the week before election. In fact, Trump is sending the troops home now.
The general overseeing the deployment told POLITICO on Monday that the first troops will start heading home in the coming days as some are already unneeded, having completed the missions for which they were sent.
They were sent to put up concertina wire – a job far more cheaply done by the national guard. However, the wire is up so they can go home. Mission Accomplished!
In contrast to the speed of the deployment in early November and the fanfare surrounding it, the withdrawal promises to be slower and quieter — but Buchanan expects it to be done before Christmas.
“That doesn’t mean it’s impossible,” he added. “But right now, this is a temporary mission, and we’re tasked to do it until the 15th of December.”
This was – and is – a total misuse of our military. Trump seems to think that he can shift people around like this were his own business empire.
1The Cuban Missile Crisis was like a hand of cribbage in comparison, I’m sure.
2I’ve read of a $200 Million price tag on this blatant boondoggle, this is surely a very lowball number. Cleverly called “Operation Faithful Patriot” in order to drive RWNJ’s into orgiastic overload, the mission has actually done almost nothing productive.
Considering who’s behind it, and that it involves the MIC, double that $200M, add 20%, and you get about a Half Billion Dollar taxpayer cost for a few weeks domestic deployment in the Tragic Valley…oh wait…that’s supposed to be the “Magic Valley”.
The troops deployed down here have been very lucky in that the weather in the Valley has been unusually cool though. Over many years I’ve always enjoyed (heheh- evil grin) seeing northern National Guard units deployed at various BP checkpoint construction projects in the middle of a Valley summer, when the temps and humidity are usually 95 plus.
OFP was primarily an exercise in logistics, in Texas most of it staged from existing bases in San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
They established a forward ‘temporary base’ in the Rio Grande Valley itself (270-160 miles south of SA/CC) called “Base Camp Donna”
From there they run some surveillance ops just as well done by the BP/ICE already there.
One of their main ops has been to string razor wire (concertina) along the river levees, etc.
This is going to have a devastating effect on many species of Valley wildlife, (many) animals that are found nowhere else in the US.
Like ocelots and jaguarundis (in many years I’ve only had a few sightings of these fantastic critters), many birds, etc., are surely going to get tangled in that evil wire and die horrible deaths; as they are used to crossing that US-MX border in their day to day activities.
Killing off already severely endangered species.
3Just to make these goddamned Rethugs look ‘good’ for an election.
Dante’s Inferno is a far too nice of a place for them.
At a cost of multiple $millions Cadet Bone Spurs redirected troops from their primary training to act as props for his campaign scare about an imaginary invasion. Training hard, but at least stateside, before being deployed to dawg knows where, some if not most probably had travel plans to visit family or have family visit them while they were stateside. Donnie didn’t care, and now some if not most of the troops are being redeployed from the border back to their main garrisons, Donnie still doesn’t care. Don’t expect Donnie to donate any of his illegal gains from violating the emoluments clause to reimburse the troops for the cost of their cancelled plans or now last minute purchases of travel to spend the holidays with family and friends.
1. Insults Senator John McCain, war hero
2. Insults Gold Star family, the Khans
3. Insults flag officers with claim “I’m smarter than the generals”
4. Flies to France only to rain cancel visiting our fallen war heroes of WWI
5. Too busy tweeting to visit Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day
6. Insults Admiral McRaven and by extension all Navy Seals
That and more from the guy who wants the Pentagon to spend $billions to throw a military parade for him. Sorry. No parade for you Donnie; we wouldn’t want you to risk getting your ‘hair’ wet.
4We are all Mexicans now because we get to pay for this nonsense.
5Tariffs, trade wars, needless military spending, flying to Europe for Armistice Day commemorations, then not bothering to attend….
With this kind of decision making, is there any wonder Trump went bankrupt so many times?
6But I heard on NPR that they’d be having Thanksgiving at the border!
7@Malarkey: MREs come in Turkey & Stuffing?
8We can’t get rid of this charlatan too soon, but even when the Dems take over the House, the Senate Republican snakes will prevent an impeachment from succeeding. Looks like we’re stuck with this goon for 2 more years. Maybe then my blood pressure will go back down.
9Not to worry!
They are close enough to fly in Chick-fil-A while it’s hot, let alone buckets of Hair Furor’s favorite or whatever.
You just gotta pay…
10I read this morning that this political stunt is going to cost $72 million, if the troops go home now, having done nothing but string razor wire. What, nobody in the big, scary caravan brought heavy gloves and wire cutters? I think we should send the bill straight to Donnie. He can afford it, right?
11That Other Jean, time to RICO the old scratch out of Dotard45, his maladministration, his family and the other miscreants orbiting that crime syndicate. It would be ironic with all the flippers from Donnie’s past talking to Team Mueller, if his promotion of Matt Whitaker to AG is the impetus to finally implode the cabal. Shelly Adelson, Charles & David Koch, the Mercers, and the rest of the “dark money” gangsters will love the exposure.
Even the fey Lindsey is distraught over Mohammed bin Bone Saw. OK Lindsey, prove you’re not merely chirping and demand Donnie’s tax returns. Let’s see the ‘reasoning’ behind Dotard45’s allegiances. Seriously. Will the snacilbupeR Senate sit out December and wait for the House to do it all starting in January?
12” . . . some are already unneeded, having completed the missions for which they were sent.”
Seeing as how their mission was to rile up the base enough that the snacilbupeR would win both houses of Congress and multiple governor’s mansions and state legislatures, I would think the folks who were supposed to benefit — and didn’t — might call on Trump to foot the bill out of his own pocket.
Won’t happen, of course, because at least THEY didn’t have to pay for it. We did.
