Out of Bounds
Many are shouting this morning that Michelle Wolf was way out of bounds on Saturday when she insulted Sarah Sanders and Kellyanne Conway at the WHCD. Trumpland was having the vapors on Sunday talk shows, and is in high spin on Faux & Friends over Wolf’s performance. Here’s a reality check about those who are so offended:
I’m unmoved by those now taking offense at a comedienne’s crass humor.
Yup. Those folks in the pictures. That was the first thing i thought about when F & F and the WH started whining about the WH Correspondents Dinner. No I kinda don’t feel sorry for Sarah Sanders. She knew what she was getting into when she took the job. As for the run of luck the association has had over the years with the entertainer, this might be one thing they want to cut out of the evening. Make it a dinner and dance situation. As for apologizing for anything about the evening, Trump should apologize first for what he is doing to this country.
1Hey folks, don’t worry about it.
2It was only locker-room talk. Nothing to get upset about. It wasn’t real.
Oh dear me, Michell Wolf said the F word and the P word too.
3I guess that’s another right reserved for men, like Dump. I seem to recall a notorious tape in which The Sleaze-in-Chief mentioned grabbing women by the P, setting the standard for the treatment of women.
As for Sanders and Conway, two more condescending and angry purveyors of lies could not be found. I guess it’s up to which “alternate facts” you espouse. Now they take umbrage at being mistreated. Sorry, but there are some 325 million Americans who take umbrage for Dump’s mistreatment of our country and its citizens in every unspeakable way possible.
Michelle gave voice to our anger.
The Rump exercises his right to be an equal opportunity offender as he tweets every day. Yet, he and thin-skinned minions can’t take the jabs of a comedian.
4I saw a part of the monologue, I just didn’t think it was funny. But that just me, swearing is never funny just crass. One twitter follower said you hire a comedian this is what you get. I like clever not crude. Last year was better.
5Didn’t watch it or hear about it but anything that could get their conservative knickers so knotted has got to be worthwhile. Especially when they’re so wedded to the foul mouth disaster of a president.
6Of course. On hearing the self-righteous complaining, I thought immediately how rude the Press Secretary is to the reporters each day; and I am convinced Kellyannewhomever is impossible to offend, as that is her claim to fame.
It’s all just another way to detract from Tump’s Justice Department troubles. Eyes on the ball. Eyes on the ball.
7It was Michelle Wolf. What did they THINK they were going to get? If you don’t want her hilarious, caustic humor, don’t hire her!
8Michelle Wolf tagged each one right on target. Sarah is the rudest female I’ve ever seen in a WH position. She’s disgraceful and so of course she whined when the truth was told. Kelleyanne is a liar, lawbreaker and all around moron. She has broken the Hatch Act at least three times and should be in prison. Both females should be fired for despicable, lawbreaking behavior.
9What Michelle Fox said was: “I actually really like Sarah. I think she’s very resourceful. She burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye. Like maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s lies. It’s probably lies.”
She did not call her fat. But it’s a natural mistake for Dotard45 supporters to hear ‘fat’ in place of “facts.”
Then that entire Aunt Lydia faux controversy driven by those too lazy to learn about the character from The Handmaid’s Tale. Thus the “Aunt Sarah” joke. It also says a little bit of how the Dotard45 supporters view Sarah, since they were the one’s to latch onto a picture of the character Aunt Lydia to make their appearance based lying, what lying defense of Chuck-a-Load Sanders.
10President Shithole von Pussygrabber is shocked –shocked I tell you — that anyone would use such crude language.
11FTR To make the WHCDs decidedly more funny and less crass would be best accomplished by changing the pResident, not the comedian or comedienne. We miss the President Obama years when he quipped with the best of them. A sense of humor is one of the many characteristics of intelligence, so expecting Dotard45 to attend is in the same category as written instructions for breathing and could be fatal to Dotard45 supporters.
Controversy or freedumb of speech, if I were to call Matt Schlapp out as Matt Clap? When he appears on TV to blast away with talking points in clear Gish Gallop fashion, at a minimum there should be a disclaimer prominently displayed in the chyron as the husband of Mercedes Schlapp who is a White House communications staffer.
Other failed faux controversies have a similar note. Larry Wilmore was hammered for dropping the “N’ word, despite the fact he did it in context, and incidentally identifies as a person of color. Now Michelle Fox, who identifies as a woman is being unduly criticized for also being funny.
Last but not least, consider the audience who self identifies as the “Nerd Prom.” While many of them are intelligent, as an audience they are often seriously humor challenged. Think back to the 2015 WHCD, when the brilliantly funny Cecily Strong had more than a few moments of struggle with that audience when her jokes fell flat. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Cecily+Strong+2015+WHCD&view=detail&mid=BE8A4FCBFB9B63247356BE8A4FCBFB9B63247356&FORM=VIRE
12I thought she was moderately funny and on point when I read parts of the transcript, but for these old ears she (like many TVee presenters) talked much too fast. 🙁
13Someone pointed out to me that Snopes debunks the pic of the women in white shirts.
then again, I have heard that Snopes has become less reliable, something about new people who run the site now.
But..just in case:

I didn’t see the whole performance, just the clips.
And though I thought it was offensive, it wasn’t much beyond the pale of previous years. But it also wasn’t particularly funny. And this kind of edgy, personal humor has to be precisely delivered to be effective, or it just sounds mean. Instead of rapier wit, Wolf was up there hacking away with a machete. She also looked very strange, with bronze makeup applied so heavily that she seemed to have been sprayed with copper metallic paint. And her voice was loud and shrill, probably from nervousness.
I’ve seen Wolf on The Daily Show. She’s usually calmer and more charming, while still getting her point across, and being every bit as ascerbic. She’s also usually much paler. In fact, a while back she “came out” on the show as a person of mixed race. So whether it was her advisors, or lack of better writers, or a personal decision to be more confrontational in her approach; this was not her best performance. But from what I saw, the problem was more with the delivery than the material.
15Typical projection vomiting of power drunk Republicans. Whatever they do or say is OK because it’s cool to be politically incorrect, liberals get upset because snowflakes, and when confronted it was just a joke. Libs are so humorless.
Waiting for the day when Dems can learn from Republicans how to win elections by easily understood, four word descriptions of what we plan to do, flood Sunday talk shows with calls to get actual Dems on instead of a token Blue Dog. But I’m afraid we’ll spend all our time following Roger Stone’s directives taking down Al Franken and Joy Reid so Republicans can laugh and voters can see we’re still spineless.

17NicaBrian, you wrote some serious truth there!
18Oh no Lunargent! You made fun of Michelle Wolf’s appearance! How dare you! You’re clearly a terrible person.
(Somebody cue the Wingnut Outrage Machine. Or doesn’t in function in this setting?)
