Our Lady of Sorrows. Really?

May 11, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The boys at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic High School in Arizona might want to change their name to Our Lady of Everlasting Virginity.  Those boys ain’t ever gonna get laid.

Mesa Preparatory Academy and Our Lady of Sorrows (no, I did not make up that name) were set to play in the state high school baseball championship this week.  But, there was an insurmountable horror:  Mesa Prep had a – prepare yourself – girl playing second base on their team.  A real, live girl.

So, Our Lady of Sorrows made the principled decision to forfeit the game rather than play against a team with a  girl.

At least, that’s their story.

Our Lady of Sorrows, a fundamentalist Catholic school in Phoenix that lost twice to Mesa Prep during the regular season, chose to forfeit the championship game rather than play a team fielding a female player.

Chickens.

Her teammates have stood up for her.

During Mesa Prep’s two previous games with Our Lady of Sorrows, Paige didn’t play out of respect for the opposing team’s beliefs, but that wasn’t going to be an option this time, Pamela said.

“We respected their school rule … but she took it hard,” Pamela said. “She didn’t like it and neither did her teammates. They went out and played the best they could because they wanted to prove a point.”

Paige Sultzbach

Mesa Prep is undefeated and the state champion, with a girl playing second base.

It ended with Our Lady of Sorrows forfeiting the game.

Like I said, those wussy boy at Our Lady of Sorrows ain’t never gonna get laid.

Thanks to Ralph for the heads-up.

  1. You go, Paige!

Those boys aren’t going to get anywhere near “second base” with that attitude.

Here’s the real reason – the only girl on the OLOS team was:

    Mary, Virgin
Bats: R Throws: Like a girl
    Height: 5’00” Weight: Mystery
    Age: Ever-virginal 14
    Lifetime BA: .000
    Lifetime OBP: .010
    Hits: 0
Walks: Actually, she kind of floats
Hit By Pitch: Who would dare?
    Stolen Bases: Would NEVER steal

The problem is, she’s always their starting pitcher, by God’s decree: “Let she who is without sin cast the first pitch.”

Really, though, I heard OLOS’ football team is much better with her on it. They even named a play for her and run it a lot: the Hail Mary.

Wow… Just wow! It sez in the bible somewhere that girls have cooties? Who knew?

  4. They should be known as Our Lady of Cowards; no wait: Our Men of Cowards.

I’m old. Pre-TitleIX. There were no organized girl sports teams when I was growing up. Yet, I played with the boys after their ice hockey, baseball & football practices. On the ice/field. I became a pretty good catcher & pitcher. The football coach watched me playing with the guys one day & told me he’d invite me to play if the rules allowed for girls. Still, I had no place to play.

Then, in 1972, Title IX became law.

Today, I am proud to say my neice chose to miss her college graduation to play in her second national rugby championship. That’s right, my girl is a 2x national rugby champion. She also played on her school volleyball team, a summer softball team and has her 1st degree black belt in karate, mentored younger students, buddied with physically challenged kids, and volunteered in her community on her own time. And worked part time. Oh, and she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Sorry for bragging, I can’t help myself.

Paige was God’s way of waking the people at Our Lady of Sorrows up, but the coaches ignored His message. Those poor boys. They have no idea what they will be facing when they enter the real world.

And I see a very bright future for Paige Sultzbach. Thanks, in part, to TitleIX

PS: This year marks the 40th anniversary for Title IX. It changed women in America forever, so thank your grandmothers today. Then, keep fighting for women’s rights and GOTV so we can continue to fight for what’s right.

  6. “,,,the opposing team’s beliefs…” What beliefs, specifically. That girls aren’t people or just that women should never have equality? Jesus let Mary Magdalene play on his team.

Thanks for that letter, Lorraine. Brought back to mind the time I began parting ways with the Catholic Church. It wasn’t over sports but the principle was the same.
Girls were not allowed to serve Mass: the job description said “altar boys” and “boys” meant “boys”.
But I was tutoring my cousins, my brother and a couple of classmates in the proper responses (the Mass was still in Latin). So I knew I was better able to do the job than most boys.
I also understood this was more than a “spiritual” concern; it was also a matter of economics. If you served daily Mass regularly–and since we lived near the Church my brother and cousins were regulars–you would be most likely to be tapped for weddings and funerals. You got tipped for most weddings and funerals.
I was only in the fourth grade but I realized that I was being prevented from earning some money doing a job at which I would excel because I was a girl.

  8. Couldn’t they all just fix this one up by having her wear an ankle-length skirt? Oh, yeah, there’s that touching part too. Eww.

So OLoS forfeits a championship game because the girl on the opposing team couldn’t be guilt tripped in to sitting on the bench one more time.

If they were truly “living up to their values” they would have forfeited the earlier two games on principal. I call bull****!

  10. Lorraine in Spring-
It ain’t bragging if it’s true. Congrats to your remarkable niece.

I’d be interested to know just where in the Bible it says a girl can’t play second base. I can’t seem to find it. The truth is they had already lost to Mesa Prep twice, and this time Mesa was going to play their best second baseman. Our Lady of Idiots knew they didn’t stand a chance and wussed out.

    10
  11. Good thing they’re doing such a bang-up job teaching character and sportsmanship at Our Lady of Sorrows. Perhaps they can get Mr. Mitt to give a guest lecture on proper haircuts.

    11
  12. Actually, the little OLoS turdblossoms lost to a girl anyway, they just weren’t man enough to go out and do it in front of all those witnesses.

Yay Mesa Prep for finally taking the right stand.

    12
  13. Another reason for Our Lady to have Sorrows! I bet she is prouder of Paige (and Lorraine’s niece) than she is of the wussie boys who play on her team.

The Sun Devils will start recruiting this one early. If they don’t she’s likely to wind up in Alabama or Florida.

    Well, I read this yesterday…
    http://www.circleofmoms.com/…/girl-gang-raped-at-school-should-school-...
A 13 yr old not allowed into the school gym while practice was being held…led to a nightmare She was a cheerleader for the sports teams… I can’t even think about it–our female troops are assaulted by their comrades–and the repubs are redefining rape
These boys don’t have a chance to get laid in a healthy way–and girls not allowed to play or even be in the space are evidently just meat…
Congrats to your niece–my daughter was a rugby goalie!!

  16. Lorraine in Spring says:

Thanks for the kind words about my neice, y’all. One more thing about her – when she was 4, I was bowling for charity. She insisted on sponsering me for 2 cents a pin rather than the usual 1 cent. Then she handed me two quarters from her piggy bank and said, “This is for the poor children too”.

And a child shall lead them….

  17. Elise, because the link posted only partially, with the ellipses (…), the link will not work.

    17
  18. I’m glad they didn’t leave Paige benched for the State Championship. I hope it wasn’t the final and she got to play in them. That’s a memory for a lifetime.

Our ladyu of sorrows is collecting money to help build the new church. CVheck out there site. Or why not donate.. 🙂 NOT!!!!

These retards, are exactly why I left the church. That and priests trying to moleste me and my friends at church. GO Paige! Our lady of sorrow is a bunch of losers!

  20. BarbinDC says:

SusanF: That is terrifying. My niece plays volleyball in the winter and softball in the Spring–neither of which was available to me in High School. When she got old enough to get a learner’s permit, I moved Heaven and Earth to find a self-defense class for her. The best I could come up with in her county was a 3-hour class at the local hospital. I’ve told her I will pay for anything else she wants, if she finds another course that will be useful. Personally, I’d rather pay for Karate classes.

  21. aggieland liz says:

Now you know why our Lady is sorrowful. I am too! You know, she was there at the Last Supper (had to be, it was the Seder and a WOMAN lights the candle) and she was in the Upper Room at Pentecost when HE breathed on them and invited the to receive the Holy Spirit…

Why do the Bishops wear skirts like ours when they hate us so much?

    22
  22. I just love it that a young women defeats the Church and it’s archaic views.

    23
  23. Elise Von Holten says:

SusanF- Sorry about the link–it upset me too much–
BarbinDC–I took Judo in High School and it was worth my time–I think really doing a martial art is good for everyone to do–gives you a good solid feeling of self–and teaches you to avoid confrontation–so karate classes would be the best-you are a cool aunt!

    24
  24. The Roman Catholic Church doesn’t have a trademark on word Catholic, but Our Lady of Sorrows should probably use “Catholic” in quote marks… they’re a St. Pius X Society school. The St. Pius X Society was kicked out of the Catholic Church back in the 1980s as heretical (they wouldn’t accept the Vatican II reforms), and are only semi-tolerated by the Vatican, more or less on a trial basis.

    25
  25. IronCelt says:

Richard, thank you for pointing out what I suspected to be the case. There are all manner of “quotation-mark Catholics” out there who are not really part of the official Catholic Church.

    26
  26. I’ve said it before, and I will say once again–religion IS the problem in this God given world of ours.
