Oh Melania. Quit digging, Honey.

August 22, 2020 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Melania redesigned the Rose Garden at the White House so it would look like it did when Jackie O was there.  She missed. It looks like she fired before she got ready or took aim.

Melania built a putting green.  And she chopped down the cheery trees so Donald could not lie about it.

And just for your curiosity, here’s Jacke O’s summer Rose Garden.

I guess her Christmas decorations weren’t cold and lifeless enough.

So, she went for the full dread monty.

Thanks to Kary for the heads up.

I hate to seem to defend any action by any member of the Trump crime family, but reliable sources inform me that:

    – the existing design was not ADA compliant

    – a willow oak planted to sunward of the former Rose Garden has grown so large that it was shading out the crab apple trees — thet were struggling, and over the years a couple of them had been replaced for that reason

    – the crab apple trees that were removed were taken alive to a temporary staging area, and will eventually be planted elsewhere on the grounds.

All that said, the new design is lifeless, less interesting than the lobby-entrance landscaping of many a corporate headquarters.

I would not blame the Biden’s if they spent some money to de-Trumpf the White House, sort of like a complete fumigation. It’ll probably have the leftover stench on their first day there.

  3. Texas Expat in CA says:

Interesting that it WAS a colorful floral garden. NOW it’s an all-WHITE floral garden. Well, subtlety was never a Trump trait.

If the Trump Crime Family wasn’t such a destructive force, would suggest President and First Lady Biden have the grounds restored by prison labor. White economic privileged no “Club Fed” for them tried and convicted members of the current maladministration. Bones Conway, Ivodka, Jughead and Messy would be ideal substitutes for rebar, while we all know Donnie, Dimwit Jr. and Eric should be composted. Steer manure and chicken guano can be rid of weeds. What would it take to remove the toxic from Donnie and crew? Perhaps mooring off the Hanford Site on the Columbia River.

  5. Well, the remade rose garden is a bit boring and looks to me like the corporate headquarters of. . . . anything.

But I’ll bet it will match Melania’s dress at the RNC when she reads off of one of Michelle’s speeches.

  6. First step for a Biden White House is to rip out all the Russian bugs. Then a couple coats of paint to cover the overspray on the walls of wherever Trump applies his face paint, and there we are.

  7. Joel Hanes, thanks for the detail. I really doubt that M did anything more than okay the plan, but it doesn’t look like anybody made much attempt to do anything more than resolve the willow tree problem, either. I’d expect this first family to make it much worse than this.

Looks like her landscape designer and interior decorator are HOA board members.

  9. Grandma Ada says:

More space for rallies, press briefings or parties? I bet the gardeners there hate it.

    9
  10. Jane & PKM says:

Mr. charles phillips, thinking your “HOA” isn’t what most readers are thinking it is. Consistent with your known good character as a gentleman and our mutual respect for Mama, JJ and women, let us just agree that for the sake of civility and discussion HOA is a campground in Trumpville, USA, but they couldn’t spell KOA.

  11. Jane & PKM says:

Grandma Ada, first and foremost, Jane & I hope all is well with you and yours. As we do with everyone at the WMDBS.

If the gardeners are paid by the hour they hate it as there’s nothing that two swipes with a lawnmower won’t do. If they’re on contract, they probably have mixed emotions between we’re paid and #@%$! we don’t care about the money, we’ll fix it for free.

  12. My favorite is the cheery upper left garden, and I love the trees. It’s a shame they are no longer there. If the upper right is Melania’s, it’s pretty sterile from what I can see. But given her Christmas decorations each year, I guess that’s no surprise. She has very unusual taste, and it could be the result of being from another country and culture.

    12
  13. Making it ADA compliant and removing a willow didn’t require removing the cherry trees. And where are the roses. ETTD remains true, even when the T concerned has a Slovenian accent.

    13
  14. It’s true that gardens need renovating from time to time but the new look is sterile with what appeared to be white and pale pink roses only. How boring. The before photo shows colorful tulips which don’t last very long and I’d be curious what other bulbs and perennials were in there. I wouldn’t like to compare color based on the tulips only. Now for the crab apple trees. Yes, they would shade the garden and roses like sun. However, moving them during the hottest time of the year while they’re still in full leaf could lead to their demise. Will they survive transplanting? Plus removing them takes away visual interest. Now all of the plants are the same height rather than layers. A big no no in landscape design. In the winter this will be an even more drab scene with no structure (of vertical tree trunks and lateral branches), no roses or anything else of interest, just boring short hedging material*. Think how pretty snow on the tree branches would be.
*It’s possible there could be berries – would depend on the plant used. But then they get sheared so bye bye berries

  15. Just like Orange Face Inauguration – nothing/nobody there .

    15
  16. don’t you get it folks? it’s a putting green, they just haven’t installed the hole or the flag yet

Amazing how the MAGAots twist into paroxysms of rage if a Democratic First Lady [like HRC, MO] even mention a minor WH change. Then fall silent and utterly passive when an alien creature like Malaria trashes that same Peoples’ White House.

    OT WX:
The weather models and forecasts are still fuzzy and changing, but it’s looking more and more like Louisiana is going to get a double whammy with both a Hurricane Marco and Hurricane Laura striking the Louisiana coast within a small area, and just a day or two apart.

Funny how Louisiana probably has one of the world’s highest ratios of Climate Deniers… oh well …
    .

The forecasts really are looking like both of these TSs are going to be stronger than earlier casts; Marco could be a high Cat 1, Laura may reach Cat 2 or 3 [both at landfall].

Watch the intensifying TS Laura approaching the Gitmo, Cuba WX radar as she gathers strength and leaves Hispaniola behind :
    https://www.metoc.navy.mil/fwcn/animate.html?icao=mugm&type=CMaxZH120

[some models still show TS Laura staying slightly south of Cuba and crossing the GOM to strike SPI/Brownsville, TX or further along to Houston, we’ll see…]

BTW, I use several other very nerdy weather websites to gather some of this info, not just the tight straitlaced NOAA ones; and never the jaded trashy commercial ones like accu, weathchan, etc.

  18. Jane & PKM says:

Sandridge, if you have a spare moment would you please, please, please take a look see out over the Pacific? Specifically if there is anything useful in terms of precipitation developing that will help the firefighters in CA. Sure would be nice if Mother Nature has some rain for them, preferably without more lightning if at all possible.

  19. Opinionated Hussy says:

Plus, the shaded whatsis (portico? veranda? cloister?) would be cooler in the DC summer heat. But then, I’ve never grown a rose bush in my life, so what do I know, except that Hannah#14 knows her garden structure!

Boring and sterile. Art reflects life, perhaps?

As for the next occupants of the White House…..I would start with a new mattress in whatever bedroom His Orangeness has been staying in. Sorry, Mama, but certain images will NOT go away.

    19
  20. I probably should be honest and point out that the photo a lot of folks are using as “before” shows tulips, so it’s a different time of year altogether.

That said, I agree with the guy who said it looks like the back entrance to a conference venue where you sneak out for a smoke.

    20
  21. Well, you know Cherry Trees are so un-American. Besides they would get in the way of the 50′ statue of Trump that Putin’s sending over as an offer of friendship between these two countries.
Now what about those pesky Russian sanctions? Or paying the interest on the money lent you after bankrupting 3 Casinos?

  23. Angela #5: yes, I forgot to add at the end of my lengthy comments on design and horticulture, that I’ll bet the reason for the hurry up summer renovation is so Melania can give her cribbed Michelle RNC speech there, and will comment on her project. ‘Welcome to my Rose Garden.’ I’ll betcha a few bucks she will. And Angela’s probably correct, she’ll do it in a matching white dress with pale pink accents to echo the colors of the roses. Maybe with a vase of them on the lectern or whatever. These people are so easy to read.

More OT WX: Tesla is going nuts trying to get the fresh dirt gravelled over on their monster Terafactory site just south of Austin. Bad time for a big storm considering the vast number of trucks, scrapers and pile drivers currently on site.
    The construction speed is amazing.

  25. Buttermilk Sky says:

Given her marriage, it is any wonder she hates color, vibrancy and life in general?

Also, I seem to recall that the White House already had a putting green dating from the Eisenhower years. Does Biden even play golf?
