Oh Hell Yes!

February 19, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I’m going to let our customer and friend Glen Maxey make the announcement here.

Glen was the first openly gay legislator in Texas, and living proof that the state is full of fighters ready to bring progressive change to a state sometimes dismissed by progressives elsewhere.

He’s glowing and sparkling so big today that you’d think he was the bride.

And my deepest sympathy to all those Republicans whose marriages are now ruined, totally ruined.

Be social and share!

I am feeling the effects of this on my marriage! WOW, unbelievable. This is going to destroy the universe soon. Actually, had I not read this, I would not have known anything this big happened.

  3. Great news! Hope some hoople doesn’t try to undo this progress.

    3
  4. to paraphrase a great quote “Gay marriage doesn’t threaten my marriage, other straight people with no boundaries threaten my marriage.”

  5. So THAT’S why the sun fell out of the sky….. Congratulations to the happy couple!

One of my favorite photos taken off the internet a while back: two young women in nice dresses holding a sign that says “Just Married.” Middle-aged couple with their arms around them holding a sign that says, “We love our daughter and her wife.” When it gets to be too much, I look at this photo and it gives me a little hope.

  6. Although I am not (and have never been) a echh Republican voter, I have been propagandized to believe … well the worst if gays and lesbians begin to marry. Y’now Ghostbusters said it much better, to wit,
Dr. Peter Venkman: This state is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, “biblical”?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.
    Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes…
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!
    or will we????

Was reading about Glen last night in Molly Ivin’s book “Shrub’. How weasel dumbass dubya tried to convince Mr Maxey that the bad words said about Gays didn’t apply to Glen.

With a face and track record of honesty from Dumbass dubya, who wouldn’t have been convinced he was sincere?

  9. Bravo!

  10. I didn’t realize that gay/lesbian couples could start marrying in Texas? Haven’t seen anything about this in the gay press.

    I’m very confused about this.

mark j, it was a compassionate exception to Texas law.

Thank you Mr. Maxey, State District Judge David Wahlberg, and all those who made this possible for this couple. Hopefully all of Texas law will soon grant the same compassion to all couples.

  12. @PKM
Where have you been??? We were about to form search parties and have bottles of JD emblazoned with you DL picture. 🙂

  13. Old Mayfly says:

As Sunday-School teacher and former president Jimmy Carter remarked, “Homosexuality was well known in Roman times when Jesus lived, and Jesus never said anything about it.”

  14. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Micr, been riding the range repairing fences, after a couple of hefty wind storms. Keeping up with reading everyone’s great comments, but those dainty little phones with the microscopic keypads are impossible for a guy to use.

In case any ‘phobes are lurking, those wind storms came before the marriage in Texas. Think the storms were a reaction by the snow & mountain goddesses to the Nov elections.

  15. Republican’ts live in Old Testament Land. They pretend the New Testament never happened. This is such good news coming out of Texas love not hate, for a change.

  16. patrick tolle says:

gives one hope for some of the other benighted states one of which I’m stuck in at the moment. Maryelle, either that or they put out some happy horse dung about the second covenant which they don’t understand either.

    17
  17. Turns out the Texas Supremes put a halt on any future same-sex marriages, and the Texas AG is looking into ways to invalidate this one.

    Haters gotta hate.

    18
  18. mark j, yeah, they just can’t stand the idea of making two women (one in bad health) and their kids happy and giving them their 14th Amendment rights.

If only all they’d wanted had been 2nd Amendment rights….

    19
  19. e platypus onion says:

Desperado(PKM) why don’t you come to your senses
You’ve been out riding fences for so long now.
You’re a hard one,and i know that you got your reasons
The things that are pleasin’ you,can hurt you somehow.

Don’t your feet get cold in the wintertime
The sky won’t snow and the sun won’t shine
Its hard to tell the nighttime from the day
You’re losing all your highs and lows ain’t it funny how the feelings go —–away

    20
  20. I’m so happy for them. I am very concerned and disappointed in our AG who is trying to invalidate this. Lord knows, we have much bigger things to “dicker” about than same sex marriage! Poop for brains in the AG’s office.

  21. Marge Wood says:

Nice poetry there, i p onion. Try fence mending on a ranch. I remember sitting on the ground with pliers and wire, dodging Opuntia, and muttering to myself that any boy who wanted to date our girls had to be able to fix fences. I shoulda included girls our sons might want to date.

    22
  22. Glen is one of the best….

    23
  23. Congratulations to the couple, and thanks to Glen. The rest of TX needs to catch up, quickly.

    24
  24. Oh, hell, NO! They’ve had their marriage invalidated: http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/19/us/texas-same-sex-marriage/index.html

    25
  25. I misread: “The state high court did not explicitly say it invalidated the marriage of the two women in Austin, but Paxton said in a statement that the court voided the marriage license.” So the license is voided, but the marriage might still be good?

Marge Wood-that poetry is part of the Eagles song Desperado. I copied it out of order but pretty much word for word from memory. Written by Glen Frey and Don Henley. Comes from the album Desperado released in 1973. One of my favorite Eagles albums and songs of all time.

Done my share of fixing, mending, building and replacing bob wire, woven wire and can’t remember how many posts I augered in by hand. Fencing pliers, regular pliers, wire stretcher,spade,auger,N0 9 wire for braces, two hammers and a bunch of staples along with bob wire were part of everyday farm life for 31 years.

  29. Wa Skeptic says:

Frankly, I’m not really sure what business either church or state have in giving permission for two people to wed. Handfasting works quite well, and is just as binding on the parties involved.

Gather together before the company and take your oath to one another, then have a great party. Works for lots of folks all around the world.

    30
  30. I pretty much agree with WA Skeptic @30, but how are the states to make up all the lost revenue from marriage licenses? Higher “sin” taxes? Just askin’.
