Oh For Pete’s Sake
This morning at 9:20, New York Republican Congressman already had the cause of this morning’s shooting.
New York Rep. Chris Collins told WBEN radio that Democrats should “tone down” their rhetoric.
“The finger-pointing, the angst, the anger directed at Donald Trump and his supporters … some people react to those things,” he said.
Kinda makes you wonder where the hell he’s been since 2008. Did he see even one Trump rally? Does he know what “Lock her up!” means?
And offered without comment:
I’m sure there will be more today.
Too early? No. Thanks to the ineptitude of the shooter, all will recover from their injuries. Could it have been worse? Yes it could. Consider the crossfire and carnage had the snacilbupeR reps been armed. LE took care of the situation with minimumwhat hat and armed to do what.
In addition, since it has been reported that all victims are expected to fully recover, let’s talk gun safety. Or, more ado because they didn’t need to sort out who was wearing specifically assault rifles. Remind me again, Scalese, why those “sporting items” are available for sale to any moron. Care to reconsider your previous position, Steve?
In the interest of accuracy, it was incorrectly reported that Rep Scalese was shot in his leg or hip. Wrong. Listen to the reports of the first aid rendered. That ass was shot in his butt.
1What , angry democrat with an AR-15 , shooting republicans…..more likely angry republican shooting ….probably a angry blogger…..will be interesting…
2It’s being reported the shooter is a 66 year-old Bernie supporter.
I’m not happy this happened. The Gabby Giffords shooting should have been a wake-up call for everyone in Congress to realize what normal, everyday Americans have to face could also be what they might have to face at some point. It’s pretty easy to be for unrestricted gun ownership when you have a security detail and metal detectors at your office.
3Well, they say the shooter is dead. And that benighted ass Steve King (IA) is braying about how WE, the non-Trump folk, won’t accept the election results and it’s all our fault etc, etc. I’ve got news for him: this is a direct result of the constant obstruction tactics that the Congress used to thwart President Obama for the last eight years mixed with a generous shot of NRA rhetoric. What an explosive, deadly cocktail those morons have made; Fox Propaganda is the bartender serving it up 24/7 to people who’ve had far too much. This will be the beginning, not the end, I’m afraid.
4Right on, Aggieland Liz. Gun proliferation which the Republicans have overwhelmingly supported, as well as allowing mentally ill people the right to buy them, has finally come back to bite them in the a$$. Those protected sychophants of the NRA can follow the dots right back to their short-sighted votes and the campaign donations that Wayne La Pierre waves in their faces.
5Mental illness crosses the aisle, Rethugs, but stoopidity stays firmly with the R’s.
The crows have come home to roost.
So why weren’t all those NRA supporting congressmen, carrying weapons? I believe their standard response to mass shootings is: if everyone was armed ….. this wouldn’t have happened. Huh?
6who knew!!

7@maryelle
If you don’t allow the mentally ill to purchase firearms, there will not be an armed nacilbupeR in Texas.
Being a Bernie supporter or not doesn’t help with lead or breath control. Yes I know I’m going to hell.
8My best wishes for the recovery of everyone, but with the R side having the great majority of guns and (I would say) a great majority of the people likely to use them on other people who disagree with them, I’m amazed that Obama is still walking around. Some people probably still think he’s the Antchrist [sic].
9It is so hard to imagine a Trump supporter shooting anyone. Unless he was non-white and/or non-christian and/or non-Trumpian of course. “They aren’t even people.”
10Micr, see you in hell, my friend. Sounds like a far better option than an eternity with the sanctimonious snacilbupeR.
The alleged gunman has been reported to be ~66 years of age. It’s rather obvious/apparent he was no marksman, or he was a great marksman who shot only to wound and placed most of his rounds in the dirt. What inspired him to go ballistic? Ready to speculate. Either he, his wife or another family member was doomed to die if the snacilbupeR ‘health’ plan passes the Senate.
11Wingnuts are already saying it was Loretta Lynch’s call to violence as the reason for this atrocity. Of course, wingnuts took her comments totally out of context as per they always do.
On 28 February 2017, Senate Democrats posted a short video statement from former U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch (who held that position during the last two years of President Obama’s second term) which has been cited to accuse her of encouraging violent protests against President Donald Trump’s administration.
I know that this is a time of great fear and uncertainty for so many people. I know it’s a time of concern for people who see our rights being assailed, being trampled on, and even being rolled back. I know that this is difficult, but I remind you that this has never been easy. We have always had to work to move this country forward to achieve the great ideals of our Founding Fathers.
It has been people, individuals who have banded together, ordinary people who simply saw what needed to be done and came together and supported those ideals who have made the difference. They’ve marched, they’ve bled and yes, some of them died. This is hard. Every good thing is. We have done this before. We can do this again.
12Jane and PKM- accuracy doesn’t exist when you have a rapid firing assault weapon. They are noted for quick followup forty or fifty shots.
13I’m very sorry for the victims of the shooter. I am sorry to read that he was a supporter of Bernie Sanders. That said, I’ve already written to congresscon Collins requesting he refresh my memory on when he requested that Republicans (example: Ted Nugent) “tone down the rhetoric” during the years 2008 through 2016. I do not expect to get an answer.
14e platypus onion, what you say is mostly true in the hands of weapon novices. But an assault rifle equipped with scope has deadly accuracy in the hands of a trained shooter.
While too little in known about this shooter, it appears he caused less carnage than someone randomly spraying bullets. There were no kill shots. Accidental or otherwise, he hit that ass Scalese square in his butt. Until proven otherwise, that particular shot does not appear to be random.
Another pertinent eyewitness account from the lady who called 911 to report an armed man walking down the street before the shootings started. Wake up Congress. People walking our streets armed with assault rifles should not be a normal occurrence by any standard. This one hit you guys & gals a little too close to your comfort zone. You might want to rethink your reaction to the Bundy blunderers who trained their assault weapons on LE. Enough already. Pass some sane gun safety regulations.
15They defended Sarah Palin after Gabby Giffords and others were shot and a 9 year old girl was killed.
Didn’t Trump himself call for a second amendment solution/people for Hillary Clinton during the campaign?
Isn’t Donald Trump the one who said he could shoot someone on the street and get away with it?
Aren’t they being hypocritical?
16I know that section of Alexandria. Once upon a time the practice for the softball game was held at a park on Capitol Hill. Then something happened and all the Hill softballers came to Virginia. They are supposed to play the charity game tomorrow at the Nets Stadium in D.C. and so far there are no press releases about calling it off. For what its worth, I am trying to get a boatload of work done via email and phone and I am having a damned hard time getting emails through. Its as if the Hill system is crashing. Also cannot get anything on a Hill phone number except a robot answering message. And God bless Gabby Giffords for her excellent message to the world.
17The sad truth is that there are some crazy people who support Democrats, just as there are crazy people who support Republicans.
The saddest truth is that leaders in the NRA are the craziest of them all, and refuse to see reality in the headlines.
18However, you don’t need to be a righty to employ a Second Amendment solution…but isn’t it nice to have that rationalization?
19To wit, we’ve had another one, at a UPS facility in CA. The whole damn place had lost its collective mind!!
20@e platypus onion
21The last EBR I fired was a borrowed M-4 carbine. As I recollect my young instructor’s description of the selector was S(afe), 1(s-a), or 3(round burst) with each pull of the trigger. A recent infantry school grad may correct my recollection as necessary.
@Jane & PKM
Thanks. I was afraid for a while that I wouldn’t know anyone there! 🙂
22The Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day:
Your daily dose of GOP conservatives showing how their party has lost their collective minds.

23Y’all may hate me for this, but my mind is on 49 sweet angels in heaven who died in a dance club because of ignorant hate and the easy availabilty of guns. How does it feel you mofos? Be glad, be very glad, you can still breathe. Maybe one of those sweet angels were sitting on your shoulder.
24As the day wore on we discovered that we knew one of the victims of the shooter at the ballfield. He is not even a congress critter. He works in the private sector and was at one time a first class baseball player in college. He acts kind of like an assistant coach for the Congressional softball game. Really nice young man. My prayers are with him. He was the one shot in the chest. I truly hope he makes it.
25Crazy men with a history of domestic violence & easy access to guns, along with legislation allowing open carry clearly are not the problem.
Neither are Republicans who have in the wake of previous shooting incidents said:
“If I could issue hunting permits I would declare today opening day for liberals. The season would have no limits.” Brad Goehring, GOP
“I do believe in the right to carry to defend myself and my family from the government.” Sen Joni Ernst (R-IA), August 2012
“Don’t retreat, instead- RELOAD!” Sarah Palin, August 2010
“If this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies.” Sharron Angle, NV GOP
“Why do we have a Second Amendment? It’s not to shoot deer. It’s to shoot at the government when it becomes tyrannical.” Rand Paul (June 23, 2016)
Paul Ryan says an attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. Yet, the rhetoric continues. Approximately 270 people will be shot in the US today. The same for tomorrow, and day after that and day after that….
26After watching a 100 thousand die because of Republican lies about weapons of mass destruction. Seeing 10 thousand plus die because Republicans refuse consider any kind of gun control.
27The sad truth, I have become so numb that the wounding of a few of these Republicans barely give a wiggle on the old “give a sh*t meter”.
Oh merciful heaven. Now said braying ass King says it’s MR OBAMA’S fault that we have all this division. Right. Because Mr Obama continued to breathe. After being elected to the Presidency by a large margin. While still being black.
28There’s no hope for these bleating idiotic fools they are worse than brainless zombies. I hate them.
