Okay, so you’ve probably heard that the social misfits who follow Outlaw Cliven Bundy have taken over a national park headquarters.
Militia members protesting a federal prison sentence for two Oregon ranchers convicted on charges of setting fire to federal land have occupied the headquarters of a national park, the OregonLive reports.
The protesters include Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s son, Ammon, and two of his brothers. Also among them is Ryan Payne, who organized snipers to aim weapons at federal officers during the Bundy Ranch standoff last year.
They told OregonLive that they are accompanied by about 150 others and are hunkered down at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters. The group is described by reporter Les Zaitz as “hard core militia” who adopted the ranchers’ cause as their own.
I give it three months to become Lord of the Flies.
I give it six months before there’s kool-aid involved.
Ammon Bundy told reporters, “We’re planning on staying here for years, absolutely. This is not a decision we’ve made at the last minute.”
So they are hold-up in a national park headquarters. Let’s build a damn wall. You know, like a mile high, completely surrounding that building. No doors, no windows.
Now I want you to consider this: Let’s pretend it was Muslims who set federal land a’blaze and that Muslims overtook a federal building. In your wildest dreams imagine Fox News and Ted Cruz having a snarling cat over that.

It seems obvious that the Bundy bunch is playing Alamo: hoping for an armed Federal response where their names go down with the traitors at Ruby Ridge and Waco.
The Obama Administration is unlikely to provide them with their desired firefight to the finish. Just as with the Bundy Ranch confrontation, they’ll let the emotions die down and watch the Bundy Bunch declare victory and leave.
However, this, too, has long-term costs. The militia movement is learning that because they are white male conservatives, they can defy law enforcement through armed resistance. This allows their groups to grow in strength.
The real problem is that they are never arrested for their criminal activities – even after the publicity stunt is over. May I suggest that arresting these folks for criminal trespass after their encampment breaks up would be a good start?

Using US military forces would be in violation of the UCMJ; turning our armed forces against US citizens is wrong on a number of levels, even if we are talking about Bundy lunatics.
13Rick – I’m with you. No need for violent measures, when it’s winter in Oregon. Cut off the electricity and water, don’t allow any more idjits to enter or leave, and let nature take its course. You can probably accelerate the process by having some tailgating going on just past the barricades, with plenty of fragrant barbecue and beer. I doubt they had the foresight to bring much food, water, and fuel with them. Though no doubt they have plenty of ammo. So any of them caught hunting in a national park can be arrested immediately.
I don’t want anybody to be hurt during this latest exercise in utter stupidity. The last thing that needs to happen is to make martyrs of these morons. But I’ve had it with their blatant lawlessness, and attempts to draw the government into armed conflict. They want a war? Let’s give ’em a siege. Maybe set up speakers and blast show tunes and New Age music at them (have to check the Geneva Convention on that last one).

I was disgusted that Bundy the Deadbeat and his mob of gun-waving morons got away with their last charade, and that just made them feel entitled to anything they want. What’s theirs is theirs, and what’s ours is theirs too, and they ain’t gonna pay for none of it.
The only problem with the blockade is that they could probably sneak out one by one and not get arrested, as they should be and I hope to hell WILL be, finally. They went way past a joke the first time.

34I checked out the terrain on Google and it turns out that these geniuses rushed in and conquered the LOW ground. They have water on one side and higher ground on two sides. It looks like they will be easy to contain. An electrified fence would be a nice touch there.
35The two guys who did the burning were found to be actually trying to destroy evidence of their own poaching on fed land. They have said they would turn themselves in. When that transpires, those fools in the building are going to look even crazier than they already are. 38They got away with bullying and threats before. That was the gov’t’s mistake. They threatened to kill federal law enforcement agents, and they’ve bragged since that they could have and would have. This kind of group will not listen to reason (they wouldn’t know reason if she snuggled up to them with sweet minty breath). It’s not like the Waco situation, where Koresh had not yet offered violence to law enforcement–they have. He did not invade a federal building. They did. So totally different situation which is how it should be presented (but probably won’t be, since even here some of you are all “Oooh, we can’t have any shots fired…no bloodshed.”
They’re criminals. They’re terrorists. They’re on federal land. They’re a menace to this country and to any civilized society. Since our laws let them arm themselves, and they want a firefight…give ’em three warnings and then show them the business end of what the feds have available.
Not giving them publicity will not work. It won’t work for more than one reason. A) It will bleed off the outrage decent citizens feel about the situation if it’s allowed to become everyday. The longer it goes on without being in the news, the more the average person will shrug and move on to the next headline. B) It proves to African Americans and Latinos and Muslims that white privilege is in command when white criminals & terrorists get away with this kind of thing: they know they’d be shot or blown up. C) It confirms the domestic terrorists’ belief that the feds are basically powerless and that they have won–so they will escalate to something else. Taking over a power supply nexus, a dam, a critical transportation hub. Just like ISIS. Every time they get away with something, they will push to do more next time. They got away with it in Nevada (HUGE mistake, I say again, as I’ve been saying since day one of that) and if they get away with it here, I guarantee they’ll attack something bigger next time.
So giving them no publicity will lose the interest of many, continue and increase the alienation of persons of color and Muslims, and increase the arrogance and ambition of the terrorists. None of those predictable outcomes is good. It’s one thing to blank out their names (as in not naming mass killers) but another to blank out their actions.
They’re also pussies. After several of them (men and one woman) showed up at a church yard sale, swaggering around with their guns and berating the local sheriff, and his 74 yo mother gave them some lip, they complained to the sheriff that she had “threatened” them. Not just criminals thugs, but sissy criminal thugs. (No, I don’t think being willing to suicide proves courage.)

43In Waco’s most recent shoot-out at the biker bar, the local District Attorney charged everyone there with RICO violations (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act). A lot of the cases will be dismissed but it’s one of those deals where you can beat the rap but you can’t beat the ride. Conviction under the federal law will get them up to $25K fine and up to 20 yrs in Club Fed.

46Sorry folks, but cutting off services like water and power probably won’t work. There’s snow outside, and lots of wood to burn. I doubt the Forest Service omitted the woodstove and/or fireplace when they put up the buildings.

The irony of the squatters is that the brothers Koch support them (for now.) Charles and David want the drilling, mineral and other rights to federally protected lands. Once Charles and David have their way, there will be no land fit to graze or water for our livestock.
Most ranchers here in Nevada are good with the federal government protecting the land for the future use by everyone, especially the birds and wildlife. We despise the welfare ranchers and their st00pid which is just another tool in the Koch arsenal to screw us all.
Seems to be the same general feeling in Oregon. They didn’t ask these interlopers to intervene there. Hope that “shutting down the schools for a week” is indication that it is not anticipated that removing the squatters will take more than a few days.
48Give them 24 hours to surrender individually. If they don’t they will be hit with every Federal charge that we can come up with. Once convicted, they will not be eligible to own their beloved guns, and if found or seen in the possession of one, they are repeat offenders. Make their weapons the tool of their own doom.

Cut off all services and outside contact except for one land line. Put the fence really close to the windows.
