News From Trump’s Rump

August 19, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, it’s all over the Internet machine and by gawd, it’s starting to make sense to me.  I guess that classifies me as a conspiracy theorist.

The Atlantic, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair all have the same story.

The theory making the rounds is that Trump’s latest campaign reshuffle isn’t really about trying to win the election. In bringing in Steve Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News, and recruiting Roger Ailes, the disgraced former head of Fox News, as an adviser, Trump is making a business play: he’s laying the groundwork for a new conservative media empire to challenge Fox.

Here’s the deal – when Trump saw he couldn’t win, he went for launching his own news network to the right of FOX. Apparently Hannity, O’Reilly, and other Fox numbskulls will leave Fox to go with Trump News.

The dream of all this is that with Hillary in the White House and a Democratic senate, there will be some angry old white guys who will follow Trump News into the bowels of hell.  Trump can claim he “won” because he’s making money and grinding the country to a halt with Hillary rants 24 hours a day.

I need to go take an aspirin and a nap.

  1. Richard Bennink says:

AS I have said, Trump was never in it to win it. He has spent little of his own money. He has not even spent money he raised. Why? Because he was in it to make money. He will walk away a richer man. Great business plan, Donald.

    1
  2. Kate Dungan says:

Maybe he is planning on doing this, but being the monumental screw-up that he is, will it be successful, or will it be bankrupt in a few years? Any bets?

    2
  3. TrulyTexan says:

That is literally the first reason I have heard for all this that has made sense.

    3
  4. JAKvirginia says:

THE MONEY! It’s Donnie. It gas been and will always be about the money.

    4
  5. But it does make all the sense in the world. Donnie’s pushed the envelope of hate to the point that Bill O’Reilly looks sensible by comparison. He, by way of the massive media attention he’s gotten running for POTUS, has done more than anyone else to bring the racism, hatred, bile, etc. out into the open. In other words, he’s expanded his base of consumers.

    5
  6. Well shut the front door…

IMHO, I’d trade Hair Drumpf (at 70 yoa) making some more money for a Dem President, a Dem house, and a Dem Senate any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

    Make. It. So.

    6
  7. JAKvirginia says:

WaPo today. Front page story about Donnie’s “generosity” on his TV shows. Not “out of his own pocket”. Seems to be from someone else’s pocket. For those of us who can see behind the facade, this is not really news. Just FYI, I guess.

    7
  8. He has to have some face-saving ploy when he loses in an avalanche, other than “They cheated.” He’s probably leaking this info to generate interest in himself as The Great Deal Maker.
Don’t think Rupert Murdoch & sons will take this lying down.
There’ll be a shootout at the right wing corral, right after Professor Drumpf is found guilty of fraud in November.

    8
  9. Polite Kool Marxist says:

ok. We know Donnie doesn’t like to spend his own money. We aren’t even sure Donnie has his own money. Show your tax returns, dumba$$. Meanwhile, we have seen what losing sponsors has done to hate radio. So, the question is: does the Knights of Knuckleheads and Kooks have enough cash to float a cable TeeVee, rhymes with TB, “news” station?

Name That Channel! Will it be 666, or 555 (kkk)?

    9
  10. The best Con-Man ever. He sets a new standard for shearing the sheep. What did he bring in? 80 mil from suckers that think he can roll back the clock. This con is not over and he is starting the next one. What a Guy. Well sheep were made to be sheared. And Drumpf was made to shear them. He should try to remember. “You can shear a sheep every year, but you only skin him once”

    10
  11. two crows says:

I think they’re onto something. I’m certain Oprah has more money than he does and that’s got to smart. After all, she didn’t inherit a penny of it AND SHE’S A GIRL! AND
BLACK! So he’s got a lot to prove. To himself.

[Narcissists don’t think they’re better than everyone else — they fear they’re not as good. Just sayin. And, of course, in The Donald’s case, for once he’s right.]

    And here’s your aspirin, JJ:
The definition of the Trump Touch is the opposite of the Midas Touch. Everything he touches turns to bankruptcy. His network will almost certainly go down in flames [just like his campaign has] AND could well take FOX with it.

Just think: Trump could manage to kill off the GOP AND FOX in one swell foop. He might even redeem his miserable life after all.

    Oh Frabjous Day!

    11
  12. The theory certainly makes sense, and I imagine Roger Ailes has some serious revenge in mind for Fox. The Breitbart guy is nothing but nastiness personified, so it’s quite the ménage à trois (a ménage made in hell).

    12
  13. Analysis:

    1) Many people on Morning Joe say the real Trump ain’t like the hate-spewing Reality TV Entertainer of this campaign.

    2) Article identifying Trump’s initial goal was to negotiate a better deal on the Apprentice…only to be immediately disassociated from on his hate speech. But as a motive it makes sense for why he really got into the campaign.

    3) Rachel Maddow did an impressive linkage of reading Breitbart info to many of the outrageous statements Trump made–like attacking McCain’s war record.

    4) Immediately WINNING the GOP nomination, Trump seemed to go on a self-sabotaging rampage…which would indicate that he doesn’t really want to win the job of POTUS.

    5) When losing in polls, instead of straightening up and flying right, Trump brings in people to manage campaign–who have no to little campaign experience, but our messaging and media players.

It does make logical sense that he might have shifted to a different end-game. Especially knowing that he has often based “winning” on $$$$. We’ll see.

    13
  14. That Other Jean says:

That does seem to be the only thing that makes sense. He’s got money (supposedly), he’s got other people to do the (warped, twisted) thinking for him, and he’s got a built-in audience of angry, old, white men. That should keep him in business for a while longer.

Now all we have to do is get out the Democratic vote, to make sure he gets a chance to give his new venture a go.

    14
  15. Melissa Roth says:

Okay, this gave me chills. So pure “screw everyone else as long as I get money” capitalism (see Steven Weber on Huffpost). So Trump.

    15
  16. Well, this would assume that Trump is capable of planning and implementing something. In advance.

That said, it’s a weirdly logical explanation. Certainly the strategy doesn’t seem to be based on winning the election. If Trump were a true WingNut I might thing he was just deluding himself about where the country stands, but he’s just an ordinary Nut.

It’s a dumb idea, which means Trump may do it. Certainly there will be some angry old white guys after the election. Angry old white guys with short life expediencies. And trying to outdo FOX on its own turf is probably far beyond Trump’s capabilities. Besides, hasn’t Glenn Beck already gone there?

My core theory is that he is simply going to keep all the money people donate to him. He’s not spending much of it expect on his own companies and kin. Lots of millions for a few months “work” grabbing media attention. Now that sounds like Trump.

    16
  17. If memory serves, the Donald mentioned starting a media outlet during the primary.

    17
  18. JAKvirginia says:

two crows and others: This, this is what happens when we try to rationalize the irrational. We go too far. Here’s the deal.

Trump likes money. Not for what it can buy, but for what he thinks it can provide, and often does: prestige, power, influence, etc. And too often America cooperates in that perception. Look at the Kardashian clan. They are raking in millions for being, what? Themselves??

I’m reminded of a story I read about Oscar Wilde before his fame (or infamy… whatever) began. He went to a performance of an, at the time, internationally recognized great actress. After an appearance in her dressing room with other well-wishers the actress turned to her associate and asked “Who was that?” “Oscar Wilde, ma’am” he replied. “But what has he done? Why is he known?” “For being Oscar Wilde.”

And so… here we are again. Donnie doesn’t give a damn about anyone or anything but Donnie. If it’s good for him it’s good enough for everyone else.

So fasten you seatbelts, kiddies. It’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

    18
  19. If he does that, I’m betting he’d make the announcement on Election Night, trying to deflect attention from being a Loser.

    19
  20. Trump News. It’s perfect. He doesn’t even need advertisers as he can fill the breaks hawking Trump Ties, Trump Casinos, Trump Time Shares, and it would even be possible to bring back the Trump Steaks…

Real red meat along with the figurative red meat.

    20
  21. Oh he spends money all right, in his own establishments. Just check out how much he has funneled into his own businesses from his political donations and you’ll see half the reason why he is bothering to do this.
he has to pay those Russians back some how….

    21
  22. I don’t think Trump ever wanted to be President; it just fell into his lap. And I think he was as surprised as the rest of us. I think the job of President requires far more commitment than he gives to anything other than himself. He certainly doesn’t care about the average Joe (or Josephine).

    22
  23. John Peter Henson says:

Let’s see if this is a likely scenario. Start new right wing news service with other investors money. It will be really Huuugge. Sell his stake before it implodes on itself. Another Huuuuge Win…

    23
  24. Hmmmm. Here it comes. Doesn’t such a venture require something from the FCC? And doesn’t he need a license to be a broadcaster? Or is he going rogue and broadcasting from his yacht just outside our territorial limits? He may even buy himself the capability to get around “jamming”.Then he can be as much of himself – as we have experienced lately – as he ever wanted to be.

  26. Pretzelogic in Philly, PA says:

It seems like all of Hair Chump’s products so far have been manufactured in other countries. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if a future Chump News’ “product” is manufactured in Russia.

    ;-/

If knowledge is power and power corrupts, doesn’t knowledge corrupt?
    – paraphrasing Nathan Bridges

I demand to see Chump’s long-form worth certificates!

    26
  27. Ed Cooper says:

maggie says: very plausible scenario you float, about the yacht, but seems to me I read earlier this year that the first time Hair Drumpf went out on his yacht, he got violently seasick, and has not stepped aboard since. Karmic, in a way.

    27
  28. Tilphousia says:

Angela, looks as if my good friend Nemesis is already balancing the scales on rump. Wait till trump loses and the Russians and Germans call all those loans. He can’t sue them and refuse to pay when he loses. The Russians will exact payment in a coin trump won’t like at all. He’ll be left with less than nothing.

    28
  29. Pollytiques says:

I always wondered exactly what he was playing at..he is not stupid by any means. He ALWAYS comes out ahead..just ask all the people he owes money to while he brags about his billions.
I have never doubted that he didn’t want to be president. He sure was going about it the wrong way if he ever had given that a thought.
His own channel was at the top of my list. And when I saw how the Ailes thing was coming down, whatt exactly has he lost? Now he has the reputation of not just being a horny old goat and there’s plenty of “ladies” that will give it a go to make a few bucks even still at Fox. He came out with multimillions from a job he knew sooner or later he would have to be fighting toe to toe with rupert’s boys. The writing was on the wall.
When I looked at Fox “talent” that was backing him I lost any doubts..I have always said the whole thing was scripted from beginning to end by the MSM and especially Fox.
What happened last week really clinched it. He has gotten what he needed from Manafort..so he’s under the bus.
He made contracts with a lot of Russian money that he didn’t have before..Anyone who doesn’t know what Breithbard and Bannon are??? Anyone that doesn’t know that Murdoch owns Wall Street Journal??? And more than his share of everything else. What he doesn’t own he can tell the owners what he wants and it’s done.
Another guess…anyone that wants to watch his garbage will pay for a subscription up front and his brands will sell like hot cakes. I don’t doubt for a second there is a single Trump supporter that cares if everything is made in other countries.
Once again…his joke is on America.

    29
  30. Trump’s not that smart.
But if there’s a fast buck to be made, he’s in.

    30
  31. Now is this an hypothesis or a theory.
My guess, a hypothesis developing into a theory.

    31
  32. Bitter Scribe says:

If this is true, does this mean that Fox News would become part of the dreaded liberal MSM?

    Too funny.

    32
  33. Ed Cooper says:

If T-rump thinks his fingers are short now, wait until Puties minions have come looking for their 180 Mil, plus interest, and he can’t pay. He is going to discover firsthand the downside of torture.

    33
  34. @Ed Cooper

Not to be argumentative here but I heard Spetsnaz operators pulled teeth during questioning, although I often thought damaging the torturee’s mouth during questioning was counterproductive.

OTOH, Russian Mafia is reputed to use bolt cutters on fingers, regardless of length, to more insistently make their point.

    34
  35. two crows says:

Till The Apology **ahem** I thought this might be the whole ball of wax. Now, I’m not so sure.

1] For two whole days now, he has been on good behavior [for Trump.] That’s worrying.

2] And then there’s the least reported story in the news tonight:

Did you notice the look that flitted across his face the moment that “apology” was out of his mouth? That little-boy-grin. So smug. So sure of forgiveness. So, “Look at me! Look at what I just got away with!”

My first thought was, “What was THAT???” even though I knew full well what it was. It was THE LOOK. You know, the look your 3-year-old gives you when he has been
caught and is trying to charm his way out of getting in trouble. THAT look.

And not one pundit so much as mentioned it. Yet it was shouting, as loudly as possible, “Don’t listen to a word I say! Or no, listen to my words – and pay no attention to
the signal I’m sending that I don’t mean a word of it. Because I don’t. And you know what else? I’m PROUD that I don’t mean it! So there!”

OK. It’s confession time. Before I retired, I was a pshrink. Well, a clinical counselor if you want to be picky.

And back when I was first learning how to do therapy, I could always SEE what someone was saying far better than I could hear them. It took years of hard, slogging work to
learn to _hear_ the hidden message behind people’s words — but I could always _see_ it — from day one. and I used to get so frustrated that my colleagues didn’t see what I
saw — till after I pointed it out. then they would see it bright and clear — but only when I showed it to them.

I’d forgotten all that years ago — till tonight. Then it all came flooding back. All the frustration. All the feelings of, “But it’s so OBVIOUS!” and I found myself wanting to
leap inside the TV and shake the commentators who just kept parsing his words and debating them and deciding not to believe him based on past performance while, all
the time he was standing there TELLING them not to believe a word of it. The look WAS fleeting — so there’s that. But, all the same, it was a SHOUT. How did they not see it?

Tonight scared me. I think he may actually want to win. And if he sticks to his new strategy, he just might fool enough people to squeak in.

    Speaking of Trumps rump!

  37. Charly Hoarse says:

Rancid news to go with the wine and steaks. Just deserts for those rubes.

    37
  38. On the topic of Scumpf, a letter writer in the Minneapolis Star Tribune on 8/20 saw a similarity between him and the swimmer, Ryan Lochte. To wit:

“Perhaps the Lochte debacle is a metaphor for Donald Trump’s takeover of the Republican Party and his ultimate defeat (we hope) in November. Each of them behaved like a spoiled brat, trashed the place, left others to clean up his mess and made up a story about how he was robbed.
    Anne Hamre, Roseville”

I like the way Ms. Hamre thinks.

    38
  39. Steve The Returned says:

Makes perfect sense. Let Orange Julius have his new media empire; just keep him out of the White House.

    39
  40. JAKvirginia says:

two crows: Yes. I, too, know The Look. For some people it never changes. It worked when they were 3 and they found a way to use it all through their life. But, you can’t change them. All you can do is exactly what you’ve done here; point it out to others. You may not be able to fix the pothole, but you can put down a traffic cone so others avoid it. It’s all any of us can do.

    40
  41. Marge Wood says:

Trump and the other bililionaires…that’s scary. Now, the tub of larfd sculptures here and there, very deserving.

    41
  42. I did not see the “look” as I immediately look away when he comes on the news, but my brother did and called my attention to it right away. He’s a Vietnam vet who served in the infantry and does not suffer fools easily. Drumpf’s hypocrisy drives him crazy.

    42
  43. Just imagine. Play acting the part of a political leader, setting up for an alt-right media concern and going the Il Duce route…

And then all the “scared to be brown” types, that own a lot of guns and violent tendencies, pick you up and won’t put you down..

    Terrifying. Just terrifying.

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer sociopath.

    43
  44. Linda Phipps says:

Angela, China is gearing up a factory to produce yet another Trump product: Hair care. Its the same one that made his daughter’s flammable scarves.

    44
  45. WA Skeptic says:

Those are called “micro-expressions” and I’ve read that they are much more revealing of truth because they are almost uncontrollable by the person. These movements happen so rapidly they are almost unseen. If, as a viewer, you can catch the movements, you’ll know if that person is truthful or not.

Good for Two Crows for being able to spot that. We need more people like that in MSM!

    45
  46. Two Crows I appreciate you speaking out. Everytime I see that replayed, I think, “I’d believe it more if he was smirking the whole time…thinking he is putting one over on people.”

    46
  47. two crows says:

    JAKvirginia and Star:
Thanks. It’s nice to know others saw it, too — even though not one pundit mentioned it.

And – do you know what was funny? EVERY TIME I would mention that look to clients, they showed me that they knew they’d been caught. Every one of them immediately changed their body language.

Eventually most of them did begin to change — the ones who were serious about their therapy, anyway. But some remained in denial, throughout their process, of the message they were delivering. Those were the ones who just kept on screwing up their lives [big surprise.]

    Guess which one Trump is.

    47
