My Favorite Image From the Capitol Yesterday
My longtime Democratic fighting buddy and regular customer here, TexasEllen, sent me this picture from the State Capitol last night.
I have some business to take care of this morning but I will be back this afternoon with more commentary on The Hooter Toter Wars in Texas, but THIS is the most important visual image of the day.
.
It makes me tear up. We will not forget.
The adherents of Christian Dominionism have taken over the government of the State of Texas and fully intend to implement their brand of strict Biblical Law, even over the objections of the majority of Texans. It’s no surprise women are subservient to men under this theocracy which includes the loss of self-determination regarding reproductive rights on the part of all women. Clear thinking Texas women voters need to get-off their rear ends in 2014 and vote these numbskulls in the legislature and administration out of office. The alternative will just get worse for freedom in the State of Texas under the present ‘regime’.
1What a pack of wolves (apologies to actual wolves). There is one answer, Frank is right – GET OUT THE VOTE!
2A picture is worth a thousand words. Wow! This is powerful!
Frank is absolutely right! They have an agenda, and they think they cannot be stopped!
But..
WE WILL REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!
3Couldn’t decide if I wanted to throw up, or just cry this morning when I found out how things finalized in the wee hours of the morning. So I’m listening to Norah Jones and Bonnie Raitt hoping this funk will pass. Love the picture…. that also brought tears to my eyes.
4What an image!
I’ll be glad to wait until you are ready JJ.
I’ve said all I want to say about Paula Deen.
But, I have a lot I’d like to say about Jodie Laudenberg.
5Great image.
6Beautiful, beautiful image. It makes me cry for the young girls and women of Texas and all those foreign states where laws are being enacted that take away the rights of females.
7I met Ann Richards when I lived in Texas. Like Molly Ivins, she not only KNEW where the bodies were buried, but would cheerfully dig them up! She drove the “good ol’ boys” absolutely NUTS!
8I stole that wonderful picture from here: http://progresstexas.org/blog/while-everyone-argued-about-abortion-3-year-old-madeleine-learned-about-leadership-and-ann
Go read it and smile for the future!
9@TexasEllen: Thanks for the link!
10We will never forget! We will remember in November, 2014 and 2016. We will work when we are tired and think that it doesn’t matter because we can look at little girls and be reminded that it DOES matter.
Here’s a grade of A++ for the Living Social Studies lesson provided to this little girl by her mom. Teach them young and they won’t forget.
11It’s time. We have a whole bunch of groups about and for women, for women, about politics and religion and health care, and we need to organize into a big, huge, cranky and determined unit of women. I’m older, and while I can be sweet I’ve been crabby too long about all this. Now, I can write, but all this Twitter and LinkedIn and so forth is beyond me. We need to make our movement connections with everything there is out there, so please, someone (I may be talking to you, Miss Hairdresser!) start pulling the strings and the electrons together so we can get ourselves organized and succeed in getting government out of our lady parts and on to fixing what’s broke around here. I suspect that means electing a lot of lady parts, and defeating a bunch of PRicks.
12I showed only that picture to my 13 year old Little Sister when we were in the Capitol. I told her Ann was the best governor we ever had.
13Teach your children well. Thanks for posting this. Needed it today.
14The only governor that I respected during my adult life. Go Ann and go Cecile!
