More Holy Crap

January 03, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Flower Mound, Texas, is trapped beween Fort Worth and Denton in northern Texas.   There are about 65,000 souls who call it home.  The population is 84% white, 8% Latino, and 4% African American.  It glows in the dark.

AX076_636B_9Tom Hayden, the Mayor of Flower Mound, is a man who loves his Bible and doesn’t think you’re living right.

“… the morality that helped build our country is based on the values that are found in the Bible. And as we look at problems, maybe we’re getting away from those values. And in my little small way, I want to encourage people to get back into those values.”

Accordingly, he officially declared 2014 the “year of the Bible.”

Hummm … I guess The Year of Zane Grey was taken.

He’s got a website going, which we hope isn’t being paid with city taxes, where the begats are going to get be-boring.  They are reading the New King James Version, which is not King James at all and makes my skin crawl, but that’s just me and I don’t live in Flower Mound and that’s probably why.

Tom Hayden makes mention of the fact that President Ronald Reagan also declared 1983 to be the Year of the Bible.

Humm … 1983, the year of the bombing of the embassy in Beirut, Hurricane Alicia, unemployment rises in the US to 12 million the highest figure since 1941, and we invaded Grenada.  I’m not sure this Year of the Bible thing works but if Flower Mound invades Lewisville, we know who to blame.

Thanks to Cheryl for the heads up.

  1. This jazz “The Year of . . .” is just that. It should be set to music and used at fertility rites.

Well, in the spirit of Republicans everywhere, and St. Ronaldus in particular, they won’t invade a place bigger than them. But I live in Argyle, the (much smaller) town on the other side of Flower Mound. I guess I need to get my french surrender monkey white flag out.

  3. Always liked Flower Mound. We drove over there as a day trip several times. Didn’t seem crazy at the time.

  4. Are we sure that Flowers is what this place is a Mound of?

Somewhere between insulting and patronizing, Hayden has chosen a trick from one of the more obnoxious parenting guides on how to feed vegetables to children. Only he is proposing tearing his Bible into digestible bits to force feed adults. He should lay off the Dr Spock and consult a little Chairman Mao on how to conduct an effective indoctrination program. What next, require his “citizens” to turn on their porch lights and sit on the steps to prove they’re reading their daily dose?

This may be an unholy alliance of church and mayor which may or may not be covered by the 1st Amendment.

  7. If Tom Hayden really wants to go back to the foundation of morality and values in North America, he might want to find a Native American he could talk to. I’m sure he’d hear some fascinating tales about people with Bibles and their interaction with the people who already lived here.

Last Night on Last Word, I heard Joy Reed tell me that 2014 is going to be the “Year of the Progressives”. I like that. A lot.

Is the New KJV Bible the one that Phyllis Schaffley and her ilk are re-writing because the Regular KJ version is a “Liberal Den of Iniquity”??

“. . .values that are found in the Bible.” were found elsewhere first.

If he wants to follow ancient religions, that’s fine. But he should know which religion he is following.

  12. We used to go skinny dipping in Flower Mound. A very long time ago.

If memory serves, U.S. Marines at the Beirut were disarmed and 241 died because SOS Hillary C and then Potus Barack Hussein Obama decided to set a precedent for later Potii to allow embassy attacks and shrug them off until we finally get a Black guy in the White House who is being crucified because four people died at a not-embassy. BTW-in 83, Potus Obama retaliated by tucking tail and pulling everyone out of Beirut to teach them durn furriners not to mess with the Euw-Ess.

Let’s spread the word far and wide to wingnuts that Tom Hayden was married to Hanoi Jane Fonda and is a liberal activist from California. That should ensure a short shelf life for one wingnut. Wouldn’t want to see any harm come to him(fingers crossed),but mob actions are beyond my control.

  15. I’m kinda curious; how is the schaffley group, in re-doing the KJB, gonna prove up/defend “infallibility, literalness” of their bible? I probably ought to caveat this question with anyone outside of their captive, brain-washed, sycophant-ed, lemmings?

    15
  16. I’ll bet it’s the Old Testament he loves, what with the begatting and the stoning and the parts he thinks are important. Human values exist apart from religious doctrine and that Mayor needs to be schooled in the separation of church and state. Flower Mound needs to pull out that great big weed.

  17. @e platypus onion:
Thanks for an appropriate 1984-like similarity.
Yes President Obama HAS been in office a very long time, although he might have appeared to the uninitiated to be the spittin’ image of actor and former Cali governor Ronald Reagan in 1983. Then he regenerated and looked more like former CIA director George HW Bush. And so on until his current regeneration in which he clearly resembles a Hawai’i-born Black Illinois Senator.

That said these facts remain, the US counted its largest single day loss of Marines since Iwo on 23 October 1983, 220. HQ and Service company of BLT 1/8 was utterly destroyed. A replacement BLT was cobbled together from assents on board Camp Lejeune and beamed to Beirut within hours/days. This process should take months. And MGen Al Gray earned his fourth star and got his ticket punched for his exemplary leadership in difficult times. All that good $hit didn’t bring back to life one of the 220 irreplaceable Marines murdered that day.

  18. Nina,

ROFLMFAO. You sound like me. Flower Mound was not even a mound until 1975. These “former farms” around the Metroplex blow my mind. Places that were so far out of the way are now all hotbeds of Baggers. Not real Dallasites or Ft. Worth Folks – just mutants from somewhere…..TURN TEXAS BLUE.

    18
  19. Micr, and one of them dead Marines was a member of my parish. I will never forget the anguish of his parents as they waited and hoped and prayed that their son had been spared. Traditionally, Marines always encamp on the high ground but Ronnie Raygun felt that wasn’t necessary.

  21. If 2014 is The Year of the Bible, one could infer that last year was The Year Of Reality.

  22. Marge Wood says:

Is he talking “Year of the Bible” with the currently accepted translations or the “Year of the Bible” being rewritten by the Schafly bunch?

  23. UmptyDump says:

Just to speculate – if I were within my First Amendment rights by standing in front of Mayor Hayden and drop-kicking a copy of the Bible on the front steps of the Flower Mound town hall, would Hayden be within his Second Amendment rights to take his concealed handgun and pistol whip me?
