Miracles Do Cease
Okay, I wrote five stories today about crazy crap happening in our country, but the best one didn’t happen until tonight.
Pat Robertson announced today that God does not waste miracles on educated people.
A caller to Robertson’s teevee show asked how come miracles only happen in Africa, not here in the god-fearing and deserving US of A?
“People overseas didn’t go to Ivy League schools,” the TV preacher laughed. “We’re so sophisticated, we think we’ve got everything figured out. We know about evolution, we know about Darwin, we know about all these things that says God isn’t real.”
We have been inundated with skepticism and secularism,” he conintued. “And overseas, they’re simple, humble. You tell ‘em God loves ‘em and they say, ‘Okay, he loves me.’ You say God will do miracles and they say, ‘Okay, we believe him.’”
And that’s what God’s looking for. That’s why they have miracles
And that, my friends, explains the Republican education plan.
Thanks to MaryLou for the heads up
.
Wow. You’re right, explains their education plan.
1Why fill their heads with useless knowledge when brainwashing works so much better.
2“They’re simple, humble” . . . and gullible.
3Pat Robertson would be a bit more believable if he could explain how Adam & Eve’s 2 sons found some women to marry so their “seed” could produce more humans like them. Gotta love legends with mythical figures!
4Hmm. Been all through the New Testament but haven’t found the beatitude that tells what the ignorant are blessed with.
5What a racist jerk! “Simple?” “Humble?” Only Africans who can be unsophisticated enough to believe everything, hook, line and sinker, huh? Thank you, Pat Robertson, once again, for proving to everyone within your earshot just how bigoted and ugly you can be. And (your) god don’t like ugly.
6What is he telling the people that are shelling out 21K per year at his Regent University? Is God not going to waste any miracles on them because they are educated or will they be the beneficiaries of miracles because their education is based upon dogma?
7Pat Robertson certainly is simple…minded. Where are his miracles?
8So… the more gullible you are, the greater the chance God will love you enough to reward you. Isn’t that also the same faith requirement for those who buy into pyramid and ponzi schemes? So pretty much he’s saying the best Christians, the ones getting the rare miracles, are the suckers who believe everything they are told without question… riiiiight.
9Yukiyo Hatayama the former Prime Minister of Japan graduated from Stanford. So, that just blows Pat’s little theory right out of the water. Crown Princess Misako graduated from Harvard law school.
Hopefully Pat’s head won’t explode over that one.
10Every once in a while one of these “religious” morons lets slip something that shows where they’re really coming from. They want women barefoot and pregnant, and everybody uneducated and gullible.
Pat, remind me which “miracles” these simple, humble people have…? Are we talking a reliable clean water supply and no infectious diseases killing their kids, or Jesus on a tortilla? I bet I know which one you’d prefer.
That man belonged in a rubber room YEARS ago.
11So why isn’t Limbaugh in Somalia already? Politically it is a small govt paradise, and apparently Africa is where God makes his presence felt.
12That’s in verse 19:84, UmptyDump.
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
13I disagree with Pat Robertson’s claim that there are no miracles in the West. I’ve heard some of the things he says, this comment included, and to me it’s a miracle he still has a TV show. But then, I’m sure he’d be the first to agree that God works in mysterious ways.
14I thought it was Obama who was bribing all the poor people to get them to vote for him. Turns out it’s God?
15“Brother” Pat is on the far-long-gone side of crazy but no one in his circle is willing to admit it or do anything about it because he is their cash cow.
16So…the small number of people here who go to Ivy League schools prevent the humble poor of the U.S. who dropped out of school and are barely literate to have miracles? That doesn’t sound right.
17So….. does that mean lots of miracles happen here in Tejas?
It must. We got a rain shower Sunday evening…… ya know…. the one we have been “praying for” since last May?
I know there’s something there (in the Good Book) about “Blessed are the pure in Heart”, but I haven’t found anything there about the “Blessed are the empty in head” part.
When I have time, I’ll look again.
18I meant to add— What a patronizing jerk.
@Miemaw: I think the verses you’re looking for are in the book of Hominomines. ;>
19Thank you for clearing that up. I was always wondering, now I know I should not have gone to college, otherwise the miracle of a lottery win would have been bestowed upon me.
20Forever, the powerful have been served by whores like Robertson, to corrupt the justice message of the New Testament and persuade the powerless to endure abuse in this world and expect justice only in the next.
21I’m reminded of the scene from The Wizard of Oz: “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!”
When primitive man would react to a lunar eclipse by baying at the moon and fearing its demise was in fact the wrath of the gods, religion was born. I don’t think organized religion’s come all that far since, other than great improvements in their money and power-grabbing abilities.
Asshats like Robertson are here to remind us of how far we have to go to reach true enlightenment as a species.
The gene pool needs chlorine.
22Ole Pastor Pat has long been insane~he is old and will not be around and that will be OUR miracle~
Squatlo, have not seen this before “The gene pool needs chlorine” so, do you mind if I steal it for #TNLEG tweets? Thanks.
23What about Jesus face on the piece of toast?
24You mean to tell me that was not a miracle???????
May explain why aliens only kidnap pre-GED southerners from trailer parks.
25Looking at my newly made whole hand–no longer crippled and twisted by the difficult ravages of the arthritis that is in my whole body (RA) because of the miracle of modern technology-
26I just have to say Patty boyo is nuts! My other hand is scheduled for later this year–after 23 years of crippling pain and diminishing ability to use my hands, I will have them back…I don’t need many more miracles than that, although cataract surgeries, heart stints, other joint replacements are all around in my family, as well as my father beating his prostrate cancer–miracles one and all—arranged by people of good faith, using their minds like (logos) I dare say God would have them do
What an idiot–his millions aren’t enough? $$$$ that’s all it’s about…
And the biggest miracle of all…a black Democrat was elected president of the United States….twice! Stick that in your pulpit, Robertson.
27Wow. Pat has a college degree, so…….
