Miners Ain’t Got Enough Troubles

Mitt Romney went to a campaign event in Beallsville, Ohio.  And that’s just real nice.

However, now many of the miners said they were forced to attend the rally and had to give up a day’s salary to attend.

The claims have been mostly denied by Rob Moore, Chief Financial Officer of Murray Energy Company, which owns the mine. He acknowledges that workers weren’t paid that day but says no one was made to attend the event. Well, kind of.

“Our managers communicated to our workforce that the attendance at the Romney event was mandatory, but no one was forced to attend,” he told local news radio WWVA, which has received several emails from workers claiming that the company records names of workers that don’t attend those types of events.

Now what was this someone was saying about union thugs?  A union wouldn’t allow that to happen to workers so that’s what makes them thugs, I guess.

Be social and share!

  1. Kinda makes sense that people who think rape has to be forcible to be legitimate would believe that telling your employees something is mandatory doesn’t force them to comply. You’re not forcing them to attend unless you whack them over the head with a pipe.

  3. What Mary said. How is “mandatory”, coming from someone with a whole lot of power over you,

    3
  4. Oops. Not doing too well on this keyboard. “Mandatory” coming from your employer is pretty much “forced” as far as I can see.

Mandatory from boss to worker means do it or lose your job.

  6. I agree with all of the above! The miners needed that day of pay, too!!

  7. Did you see the picture? Those poor “props” looked miserable standing behind Mitt. Because they lost a days’ pay, they were forced to prop up a wealthy entitled jerk. Mittens has no idea how the little people may depend on that pay and he really does not care.

To make matters worse, the mine owners, huge donors to Mitt, have had to pay some heft fines in the past because of safety violations. Guess how much their fines will be reduced if their boy wins? What’s a few dead miners?

  8. Big Brother is watching you.

How can something be both mandatory and optional?

Oh. Probably in the same way that having a job is optional.

lol, reminds me of when my daughter was on the jv HS drill team and their biggest fundraising activity was up coming.

At the meeting to explain what was expected the person in charge said…

“It is mandatory that parents volunteer at least six hours of work at this event.”

That old “mandatory volunteer” thing don’t ya know.

  10. I’m on the election committee for our union local.
I was assigned to go to one site of a small number of employees to insure the integrity of the voting process and to collect the votes to take back to the local for counting according to national standards. One of the employees was know to ask “what is the union going to do for me?” in a confrontational “Union?…..,I don’t no stinkin’ union!” attitude. Mind you this was just after the poor souls had lost their lives in the Big Branch mine disaster in West Virginia. FYI, the owner gutted the union and cut corners on safety causing the deaths of 28, I believe.
I told him that if the miners at Big Branch had a union their families would not be mourning them.
He didn’t want to hear that and stomped away……, but after voting.

  11. Right, in these times you’re going to risk losing your job. Perfect choice of a song Texas Ellen. Absolutely perfect!

  12. Heck… down here when the PRI forced union members to attend party rallies, they at least provided a sandwich and some beer. Mitt Romney’s Mexican relatives need to take him aside and explain how you’re supposed to pretend to have workers’ support.

It’s against the law to force workers to attend a meeting without paying for their time. I wonder if anyone thought about that?
