Michael Burgess and The Fruits of My Labor

July 19, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Michael Burgess was not born in Texas, but I take little comfort in that because he now represents Fort Worth, Texas in Congress.  Reminder: he’s a pervert who enjoys watching male fetuses play with their private parts.

He is a physician.  When he appeared on Chris Matthews last night to discuss if health care is a right, things got a little twisted.

“Do you believe health care is a right,” Matthews asked quizzically.

Burgess replied, “I told you. It’s a responsibility.”

Matthews: “No. Is it a right like life or is it a right like the right to bear arms or a right in the Bill of Rights? Do you have a right to health care provided by the federal government?”

Burgess answered, “You have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

Matthews: “Not health?”

Burgess: “I’m a physician. If someone has a right, that means you take my skills and the fruits of my labor. That is what you’re telling me.”

Matthews: “I’m just asking. I’m not telling you anything. I want to know where you stand.”

Burgess: “I told you where I stand. It is a responsibility that people have to have the provision for taking care of their health and their family’s health.”

So, Burgress is big on the fruits of his labor belonging to him and him alone.  If you want it, you have to pay full price for it because they are his fruits, dammit.

Okay, that’s Republicanism in a nutshell.  But, let me tell you a little secret. The fruits his labor are his, and the fruits of your labor are also his.

To be a doctor, Burgess went to two schools:  The University of North Texas and the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.  They are both state supported universities.  When he attended those schools, the tuition was about $75 a semester.  Taxpayers picked up the rest of his tuition.  This sumbitch went to undergraduate and medical school on the fruits of my damn labor.

He did his residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital, which is paid for by a specially dedicated property tax on the citizens of Dallas County.  Oh no, he didn’t “take responsibility to have the provisions” to go to a private university and medical school. He went on the taxpayer’s backs.

Look, I have no problem with that, just so long he doesn’t think he did it on his own.

See, this right here is exactly what I hate about Republicans.  Oh, they are big on their labor but not so much yours.

Thanks to Paul for the heads up.

Nothing matters to a Republicanite until it matters to them personally.

The snacilbupeR double standard is alive and well with old Michael. He takes his with a double scoop of hypocrisy.

  3. Socialism for them, capitalism for everybody else.

So I guess if this sumbitch saw someone bleeding out or in need of CPR or the Heimlich, he’d go through their wallet before he saved their life. And if there wasn’t enough in the wallet, he’d walk away. And I bet he thinks he’s a Christian and that that’s just what Jesus would do.

“Compassionate conservatives”– they had to come up with that term to distinguish them from all the other conservatives. “Compassionate liberal” would be more of a redundancy.

  4. I think many of us met a woman or a man like this when we were young and dating back in our salad days. We started to feel an attraction, imagined what it might be like to share a life together, thinking “what’s mine is yours, honey.”
Then you discovered while s/he may be willing to share what belonged to you, what was his or hers was definitely his or hers.

Does anyone else wonder if the reason he is in Congress instead of caring for patients has something to do with problems keeping patients?

I’ve had holier than thou MDs, but they damn near walked on water through earned skills. Maybe he’s got the chops, but somehow…

  6. At last! A physician who admits that he sees what he does as a product and never a right. Thats Republicans for you! And, yes, his bedside manner sucks swamp water.

  8. I got a good deal on my undergraduate education. Law Enforcement Educational Administration. LEAA. Part of the DoJ at the time. Civilians with law enforcement related majors could get loans for every degree through PhD, including JD. In-service officers who qualified got GRANTS. If you were on the grant for a semester before completing your last degree, you owed a semester post-graduation as a sworn officer. If you failed to maintain a sworn position, your grant dissolved into a loan and you owed LEAA/DoJ the loan payments. I stayed a couple of years past what I “owed” DoJ, partially in appreciation for the helping hand.

Every taxpayer supported university should have a similar program. I acknowledge the debt I owed every taxpayer in those years for my degree. Unappreciative a$$holes like Michael Burgess need a spoonful of humility with their coffee every morning.

I hate it when Chris has Burgess on. He says the most ignorant, appalling things, but in a cheerful voice, and with a big smile on his overgrown baby’s face. At least Hayes has gotten better at interrupting the flow of idiocy, and trying to bring him to some kind of point. But it’s usually a futile attempt. The guy is a bubbling fountain of right-wing blather.

  10. Yuck.
(That’s all I’ve got for an a$$hole like that.)

I always envisage these SOB’s as icky massive ‘wet farts’, not benign fountains; y’know, the real blasters after eating enchiladas, tamales, frijoles, drinking beer and soda water.

Having worked in a hospital for 37 years, I can assure you there are other MDs and ODs who think this way. There are also some wonderful decent human beings who practice medicine, too.

    I don’t think so.
