Louie or Not Louie
Stephen F. Austin State University is nestled against the pine trees in deep east Texas. It’s a pretty campus and it used to be surprisingly enlighten for being behind what we call The Pine Curtain.
There’s been an incident at Stephen F Austin University pitting their art gallery director and Louie Gohmert in a battle of intellectual curiosity.
This week, a United States District Judge refused to grant summary judgement in favor of the university. Here’s the meat of the matter.
Christian Cutler, then of Nacogdoches, brought the suit in October of 2011. His claim is that he was asked to take part in an art show hosted by Rep. Louie Gohmert in Tyler. Cutler said he declined the invitation because his political views were not aligned with Gohmert’s. He believes he was fired in September of 2010 because the university was politically motivated to make an example of him, having learned that he offended Gohmert.
The university and Louie Gohmert say that’s not true.
So here I sit, trying to decide if I believe Louie Gohmert or anybody who is not Louie Gohmert.
And Louie did get a word in.
“[Cutler] is traveling around the country, misrepresenting what he promised, and that he let his politics get in the way of not only keeping his promise, but also doing what was good for the university,” Gohmert said.
Okay, so I’m trying to figure out if Louie is talking about Cutler or himself. See, this sounds a whole lot like what Louie does every day. I’m sure you can understand my confusion.
Thanks to Mary for the heads up.
