I’m truly enjoying the Republicans putting on a ninth inning for us.
I think the freedom caucus is smelling blood in the water. Jim Jordan wants the Judiciary Committee more than McCarthy wants the speakership.
Funny thing happened. During the break before the 2nd vote, I took a bathroom break. That was the exact moment that we had a test of the emergency broadcast system. That is not a sound you want to hear when members of Congress think January 6th was pretty damn cool. Great words to hear: “This is a test. This is only a test.” Come to think of it, that’s pretty much what the whole damn morning was.
So far Congressman Hakeem Jeffries is leading the vote for Speaker. ***If only*** Liz Cheney and other ousted GOP would vote for Rep. Jeffries my cup of schadenfreude would runneth over.
1The lesson here is: Don’t go to the bathroom!
I’m just sitting here wondering just how great McCarthy’s capacity for humiliation actually is.
2In discussions of people who might actually be able to get enough Rethug votes to win the Speakership, the name Steve Scalise keeps coming up. Think Newt without the charm. He’s a real piece of work.
3What was that saying, sow the wind, reap the whirlwind. The GOP are showing that they are as unified as a piece of dried up grass in a Gulf breeze.
4Ted will need a lot more than one bag of popcorn for nutrition today. The Repubs are so screwed up that this is going to take quite a while!
5Just as I posted my previous comment, Juanoita removed the photo of Rep. Ted Liu (D-CA) outside his office, smiling with a bag of popcorn. Please put the photo back, Juanita! It’s a great one!
6Apologies! I got it all wrong. Ted’s photo appears in a separate post!
7Yeow, watching the C-SPAN live video feed is like watching a fish tank of, no, not nice tropical fish, but a collection of the slimiest bottom-feeding benthic critters from the depths of the Black Lagoon… uurgg, yuck
But still, seeing the vote count posted showing the leading 212 votes for Jeffries [D] is a treat.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benthic_zone
8“The benthic zone is the ecological region at the lowest level of a body of water such as an ocean, lake, or stream, including the sediment surface and some sub-surface layers. The name comes from ancient Greek, βένθος (bénthos), meaning “the depths.”[1] Organisms living in this zone are called benthos and include microorganisms (e.g., bacteria and fungi)[2][3] as well as larger invertebrates, such as crustaceans and polychaetes.[4] Organisms here generally live in close relationship with the substrate and many are permanently attached to the bottom. “
Bwahaha, Jeffries got his tying 29th vote from Castro [D-TX] , still in the ‘Cs’.
9Leading 51 to 41…
And with Jordan at 8, a small round of applause and McCarthy is Dead-In-The-Water henceforth…
10So a fourth vote is nearly a dead certainty now… the rest of this clown show is just a pro-forma exercise.
11When I saw tape of Matt Gaetz slobbering over his nominating Jim Jordan for speaker…I was disgusted.
However, I do see a silver lining…not that I expect it will happen, but that whoever is Speaker and about 2 dozen of his supporters get arrested for their part in the different criminal activities for last 2 years. Then if had an immediate vote–before replacements can be appointed, it would make for interesting viewing.
12BWAHAHAHA!! Third round vote goes down in flames. Adjourned until noon tomorrow for the fourth vote.

Sandridge @13 Any Las Vegas odds on Congressman Jeffries being able to peel off 6 “R” votes to make it to 218? That would be a nice thumb in Qevin’s eye from outgoing Liz Cheney, Kinzinger and others.

14Jane & PKM @14, I’ve been wishing that that would happen, but all the pundits say ‘no way’. Oh well.
And it wouldn’t be ‘a thumb’ in Qevin’s bilious eye, more like a 2×4 up his sorry azz…
15rofl with you, Sandridge. Nothing better than the “pundits saying.” So there is a good chance that Rep. Jeffries could become Speaker. I’ll take those odds. Toss in a pollster or two, then I’ll give 70-30 Vegas odds on Speaker Jeffries.
16Jane & PKM @16, That scenario might have just the barest of chances, imo; although the article below gives it a slightly better chance.
There also always has been the option of selecting a Speaker who isn’t a House member [don’t think it’s ever been done]. Any jakeleg they could dreg up could wind up Speaker.
But the thought of just who the Rethugs might bring in with that scenario sends chills up my spine. They could start with somebody like DiJioT and winnow the field of candidates down from there, eh?

17Sandridge, in Nevaduh we have a rule: remove the jokers from the deck. But. In the worst-case scenario, lordy, the QNP nominates TFG. Qevin McQarthy must have six friends, maybe more, to whom that scenario is unacceptable.
Moving forward the million-dollar question is can Congressman Jeffries find 6 sane members of the Qcumber Nazi Party (QNP formerly the GOP) to end Qevin’s embarrassing demise?
Mostly waiting for the issue to be moot as members of the QNP should/could/would be jailed and otherwise removed from the House giving the majority back to House Dems.
