Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Be Gay

May 03, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Oh no, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott ain’t having none of that gay stuff.

And we especially ain’t havin’ it if it means healthy gay stuff.

Abbott says that it is his opinion that domestic partnership are unconstitutional.  Yep, unconstitutional.  Verdelia says he doesn’t mean that at all, but just wanted to impress everybody that he can read.

What brought all this up is that some local authorities in Texas are offering health care benefits to domestic partnerships.

Currently, Dallas County and the cities of Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, and San Antonio, as well as Pflugerville School District, all offer domestic partnerships.

Some people suspect that it was the Pflugerville School District thing that pushed Abbott over the edge.  I mean, think about it -if Pflugerville moves into the 21st century, can Waxahachie be far behind.  Then you’ve got that whole domino thing going on and pretty soon, gay people all over Texas will have heath insurance.

Needless to say, Abbott is running for Governor of Texas.  I need to tell you something – he’s Rick Perry minus the intelligence and humility.

Thanks to Brian for the heads up.

    And minus the whimsy!

My condolences on the news of his decision to run for Guv. Unless he is discovered stomping on baby chicks while wearing hooker heels and not much else, chances are he will win.

Here in Maryland, my Governor (Martin O’Malley) just rescinded the executive order allowing domestic partnerships so that state workers can get health insurance for their partners. Now that Marriage Equality is the law in Maryland, gay state workers will need to get married in order to qualify for health insurance. Domestic partnership rules didn’t apply to straight couples because they already were able to be married.
I’m really proud to be living in Maryland. We’ve just got rid of the death penalty, and have strengthened gun safety laws, as well as marriage equality. Annapolis is only 32 miles from Washington DC. You’d hope some of our good sense would rub off on those folks.

Waxahachie…………….of course……….the home of I’m not sure what. Grew up there………glad I’m not there now. I doubt much has changed, but maybe it has. There’s always hope.

The GOP did the same thing to Planned Parenthood when they destroyed the Women’s Health Program in a an effort to hurt PP. Now they are doing the same thing to domestic partners in an effort to hurt gays who might be in domestic partnerships.

Abbott is the lowest of the low.

Lordy Lordy! The stink just keeps getting stinkier in the great state of Tex-ass. What one don’t think of, another mouth breather does.

  6. I think it goes like this: first it’s Pflugerville, then it’s Hallettsville. That place is so red, theyt still have signs up for that guy from your neck of the woods. What was his his name, Gates? How long ago did he run?

  7. Isn’t it strange that everything Abbott doesn’t like is “unconstitutional,” but he doesn’t say why or how. Does the federal or state constitution mention domestic partnerships, gays or health insurance? If so, I’ve somehow missed it. Maybe Abbott and the GoverNot had a meeting in some janitor’s closet and amended the state constitution without telling us.

  8. In 1984, while General Abbott was jogging, a tree fell on him and partially paralyzed him. As most of you know, he’s still in a wheelchair today. Abbott hired Texas attorney Don Riddle to sue the tree’s owner and those who had trimmed it. Abbott got a $10-million in his lifetime and reportedly receives $300,000 a year from it.

Well, then – and this is the ironic part of the story – ole Greg weint into politics and was big on tort reform. After W appointed him to the Texas Supreme Court Abbott, helped push a tort reform agenda, and ambulance chaser Riddle said at the time, “People who sadly find themselves in Greg Abbott’s position today will not have the same access to obtaining compensation that Mr. Abbott had. The difference is the tort reform laws that have come into place.”

Well, when you have no health insurance and your medical bills are breaking you, you can sue somebody….or you could back in 1984. While I pay $750 a month for mine (I shit you not), I guess Greg enjoys some real nice Blue Cross now – on our dime.

  10. Hey! they all say everything they don’t like is “unconstitutional”…have all these twits even read the thing? I get so vomituous hearing this time and time again from every nut from Bachman to Gingrich and ad infinitum. Lordy, these jerks NEVER shut up…they spend all their time looking for more shite to be AGAINST! Its gonna get to the point where they’re gonna make ME look for a dam gun!

  11. WC, is Gov O’Malley at least giving a respectable time limit before cancelling the health insurance of all those domestic partners? It takes time to plan a good wedding, doncha know? Here in Central Texas, a lot of the good venues are booked a year in advance.

  12. maryelle says:

Right on, Ralph! Conservative Repugs are stuck in pre-history and God help anybody who has evolved past the Mesozoic Era. “Constitutional” means what they say it means, darn it, and no liberal backtalk mind you.
    Papa done spoke!

Yet another great line, Juanita. Keep ’em coming.

  14. I didn’t think there was a number low enough to be minus Rick Perry’s intelligence.

    14
  15. If he lacks Perry’s intelligence and humility, he’s in negative territory.

  16. ks sunflower says:

So he is “Rick Perry minus the intelligence and humility” (whoa, that is funny by itself) but I would have applied that definition to my Governor, Sam Brownback, R- Kansas. However, since we rarely see Brownback smile or laugh, I think he is much worse than Perry – I know, I know – how can that possibly be? But, trust me, when Brownback began emulating Perry he was short a few bricks already.

  17. @Ralph Wiggam: Some folks aren’t so sure the Old Testament is all that reliable about homosexuality. Seen this? http://www.matthewvines.com/

  18. Strange to think that you guys may soon yearn for the good old days under Rick Perry.

OK, maybe the part that says all people? What constitution is he reading? Afghanistan’s?
