Just So You Know

Goodness sake.  Chick-fil-A decided to stop donating money to organizations that discriminate against gay people.

So the Texas leader of gay haters tweets —

Really, Gov?  Really?  I do not know a gay man on this planet who would try to kiss you so get over yourself.

  1. Or a straight woman.

Or any other combination of genders and affinities.

The only people whose lips willingly touch Greg Abbott are the sycophants who line up to kiss his ass. Which is still probably preferable to his face.

  2. He’ll do it once for the publicity, and that will be the end of it.

  3. Ummmm…
    Hate supper.
Just like Jesus & the disciples.

CFA has made this same promise in the past, and has never followed through. I suspect this time will be the same, as they are getting lots of kick-back from their Christian Chicken-Eating Haters.

Regardless, I’ll never eat there. They have a lot of hate to atone for.

if I were a gay man, the thought of being intimately involved with Abbot would be sufficient to turn me straight, long enough to get the hell away from him safely.

  6. I have a female acquaintance – that used to be a friend until Trump came along and exposed her. She is scared to death of those would-be Mexican rapists now – after having lived in Houston for over 30 years. Me: “Trust me, honey – ain’t a man on earth that would rape you.” To be fair, I was not in a good mood.

I have not eaten a CFA but once, in over 5 years. It did not taste nearly as good as I remembered. I didn’t know if they had just downgraded their quality – or I could taste the hate. Either way, that will be the last one.

  7. Have only been in a CFA a few times, when it was the family’s choice, not mine [plus there were no CFAs around, still aren’t]. Tasty food, but extremely salty, prefer low salt food.

Bill Millers is tough, I’m a BBQ nutcase; although BM is far from the best.
They finally built one in my little burg, killed off the two local joints quick.
But a while ago, hearing about their support for DT&Rethugs, I commenced a personal boycott, ain’t had a bite of Miller bbq since; and it’s a long way to any other bbq joints, so I get a bbq brisket log at HEB [and bbq my own of course].

A plug for a different kind of BBQ if y’all might have one near [I have to go a lot of miles to one, but if going to the city it’s hard to resist]:
Try the L&L Hawaiian Barbecue chain, it’s more the ‘L&L Hawaiian Mixplate’ place, but lots of good stuff on the menu.
Not a lot of them around away from Hawaii and the West Coast though, but there are a few in TX now [San Antonio, Katy, Houston Heights, Plano].

  8. “Great chain BBQ” is an oxymoron.

No longer contributing to organizations that are against same sex marriage is only half way there. I will bet CFA is will against gays, ignoring that they do tend to pair off, like any other humans.

  11. Who is Bill Miller?

    11
  12. Malarkey @11,
Bill Miller started a family BBQ restaurant on the SE side of San Antonio ~1953, there is still one at that location [at Southcross & Goliad Rd, but don’t know if it’s the original building mas o menos]. The business expanded over the years and is now a large wholly-owned chain operation in Central and South Texas [it may have expanded to Houston/ Dallas by now]. It is a very popular place down here.
I meant to mention that while the bbq is very good, it’s also very consistent. IIRC, they produce all the menu items in a central kitchen in San Antonio. Millers is noted for their pies too.
I had co-workers who actually grew up on the southside with their neighbors, the Miller kids.

  13. Curious, but that Bill Miller company link is having trouble staying online:

  14. mollusk @8 , You’re distorting, being dishonest, by using quote marks on a made-up statement: “Great chain BBQ”.
Of course there are single BBQ joints that have superior bbq, but you probably have to drive many miles to get to it. I can drive ~125 miles and hit about 90% of Texas Monthly’s ‘Best Texas BBQ” places, which are mostly that ‘small’ type.

But Millers is consistently very good bbq, and around here they’re everywhere [Grady’s is a good, much smaller local bbq too]. I hate to sound like I’m defending Millers, but I used to eat a lot of their bbq [esp when working ‘on the road’ around centex].

  15. Sandridge @14 – Thank you for sharing. My opinion differs from yours. Such things happen – which is why we have more than one place to eat.

  16. Even if they hadn’t changed their minds, I wouldn’t be eating there, despite their better-than-excellent strawberry milkshakes (as I remember from a decade or so ago, when I stopped eating in their food. You have pay at least lip service a certain kind of Christian ‘values,’ with certain kinds of beliefs, close on Sundays, and participate in their prayer meetings in order to own a store–although you don’t actually have to be Christian, apparently. Because they’re a private company, they can choose not to sell you a location if you aren’t “one of them.”
