Louie Gohmert.

Made the newspaper.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Crazy), after calling Sen. John McCain (R-Bitter) “numbnuts,” gives what may be the funniest apology ever!

“I did express my regret in saying that he was a numbnuts because I didn’t — I probably shouldn’t have used the word ‘numb’, ” Gohmert said. “That was probably unfair.”

Screwy Louie is on a roll this week – twice on Tuesday and once on Wednesday. Will he ever reach a point at which the 1st Congressional District voters will decide that he has become an embarrassment to them?

If every politician said what they really feel it would be a lot easier to separate the wheat from the chaff. I don’t live in Texas and I’ve never met Rep. Louie Gohmert, but I’m pretty sure I like him a lot!

  4. Hopefully the Republicans will keep up with this name calling. It can’t hurt us and it just may get a little heated between the fractions of the Regressives. Maybe that should be among as there appears to be at three or four different groups.

  5. So I guess McCain is just nuts.

  6. Umptydump, how the hell would they know!

To Umptydump: You obviously haven’t spent any time in ETex, because the folks in the 1st Congressional District think Louie is a real asset! Being FROM that part of Texas, I think he’s an asset…without the “et”.

  8. On the subject of being just plain nuts, at least Louie brings the heft of indisputable expertise to the question.

  9. Umptydump and HippieCowboy: I’m FROM Tyler/East Texas too. A high school classmate (Class of ’64) posted on facebook about some sort of event where she noted that among the attendants would be “…of course, our wonderful Louie Gohmert.”
I’ve noticed that my classmates that stayed around Tyler are the ones who are the dyed-in-the-wool Republicans. Those who live elsewhere often have different world views. I eventually deleted all my facebook “friends” except for family. Kept my blood pressure lots lower.

  10. If you stacked up all of Louie’s nutty sayings would you have a Gohmert pile?

I have been unable to find the word “numbnut” in Webster’s, but suspect that the prefix “numb” substantially changes the meaning of the word “nut”. I’m guessing that “numbnut” means stupid, while “nut” means crazy. Fortunately they both apply to ole Gohmert, but neither, in this instance, apply to McCain.

In the 70s I lived in the Indiana Second District, when we had a Congressmen who 1.) got thrown out of Brezhnev’s USSR for handing out New Testaments on the streets of Moscow, 2.) once said in a hearing, “I have my mind made up. Don’t confuse me with the facts” and 3.) just before Nixon resigned, told The Wall Street Journal, “You can stand me on the Capitol steps and shoot me. I’ll stand by my President.” Finally, the voters of the Second, which had gone straight Republican since the Depression, blew away ol’ Earl Landgrebe and put in a liberal professor from Purdue University, Floyd Fithian, who lasted three terms until running for Senate and losing. The voters didn’t appreciate Floyd’s politics that much, but at least he didn’t keep embarrassing them like Earl did.
