My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.

1What next? Women priests? There’ll be rioting in the traditional wing of the Latin sacristy, if so!

I’m liking this new pope.
3Pope whatzhizname offered up a stinging rebuke of the tools that worship money. Pretty sure he had rethuglicans and the 1% in mind,but rethugs were too busy celebrating their phantom victories over the hungry and the uninsured to pay attention. Their god speaks to them by way of campaign contributions from Koch Inc,et al. god is into free speech as long as it is payola.
4We’ll see how long a semi-radical Pope survives. With an entrenched bureaucracy and against ages-old biases, it may not be long.

6The new Pope may have joined the real world, but I have yet to see much evidence that the Vatican/Catholic Church has.
Paul Ryan? John Roberts? Antonin Scalia? All good Catholic lads who will pay no attention to what Francis has to say.
7Repugs have only one religion: greed. Taking food stamps from the poor, healthcare from the sick and elderly and denying thousands the right to vote, this is their raison d’etre.

I’m glad to hear Pope Francis’ remarks. I’d much rather listen to him than Teddy.

At least the Catholic Church cares about the poor, and admits their mistakes. Sure, it takes them about 400 years to do so, but…
11This new guy is still strongly anti-abortion, though his suggestion that the Catholic church be a bit less obsessed with other consenting adults’ sex lives is a step in the right direction. And as for his statements about money and the poor, I must say he’s the first pope in a while who seems to have actually READ the Bible.
12I’m not Catholic, never been Catholic, but I have to admit, I’m liking Pope Francis. He is definitely coming across as a Pope for the People and it’s about time!!

15President Obama has been a target of the right since the day of his inaguation. Pope Francis will be the target the entrenched Vatican hardliners henceforth. They both need our prayers.

He’s a Jesuit, so if his lips are moving, he may not technically be lying, but it’s damned close.
19A lot of the quotes attributed to Pope Francis are being taken out of context. Sound familiar? CNN posted an opinion article on him which basically said his forthright thinking is shaking everyone up, but his beliefs aren’t significantly different than the church has held for years. It’s worth a read.

My view is that at least Pope Francis is willing to think about doctrine and the history therein for himself. He doesn’t depend on “We’ve always done it that way.” I think that’s what scares the Vatican hierarchy more than anything.
